- Hey babes so in todays video I reacted to SB19s 'MAPA' and my heart is broken 😭 Such a sad and relatable bop. I lost my dad to Cancer when I was 11 and my amazing mother had to raise me on her own after that and I honestly feel like I owe her everything! Warning: Long Message ahead. Message below aims to answer some of your questions you have in mind. Hope this helps.
(1) MaPa = Mama and Papa (Parents)
(2) Mapa = Map (English)
(3) MaPa = Mata and Paa (Eyes & Feet)
(4) Lataratara = There is no direct translation (Prolly) for this. This is a lullaby, a hymn normally our Mom makes everytime she puts us to sleep. Remember our [1]MaPa normally just utter any sound tucking us in.
Our Map is our [1]MaPa in this Life journey. Both used and present on this song. This is a masterpiece written by Pablo in collaboration with the rest of SB19. The release of the magical song was intended between the mother’s day and father’s day since the song is for them.
This is a love letter to our parents. For some if not most, we barely tell our parents how we feel inside. This masterpiece will help us do another move to tell them how much we value and love them.
In the song, “we will never get lost because we have the Mapa (Map)”. The map represent our parents. The things they taught us, the sacrifices, the advice they give and hardships. We will never get lost so long as we have the Map (Map). The Map that we can bring anywhere we go. The map that contains all the leanings and guidance our [1]MaPa gave us.
In the Filipino culture (or prolly in other culture), we children have great regard to our parents / elderly. Most of us we would want to give back. Times wherein we just want our parents to stay still, we want to serve them and it’s time for us (children) to do the rest. We want them to rest from the tiresome days and time they give and sacrifices for us.
This song hits the hardest if we have those regrets if not being able to give back and let them rest from those tiring days they spent for us. Regrets prolly due to some unforeseen events. Event where they can no longer hear our “thank you” and gratefulness towards them. Regrets prolly because we don’t have the capability yet of returning the favor (though they never ask for it). Regrets prolly because we are far from them and this pandemic is hindering us of being with them or for any reason.
Normally our parents (MaPa) would not share how hard life is, they would not tell us how tight things are. They would always keep inside them the struggles they are facing and normally they will always show their happy face for us not to worry. There’s this Filipino saying “isusubo nalang nila, ibibigay pa sayo” This can be translated as our parent always put us first.
First part of the song, Justin talks about how our parents (MaPa) prioritize us in all aspects. In the Filipino culture, remember the day when you as a kid cries asking for a balloon and our parent would graciously get some coins and buy one for you. That moment we can only see the our happiness for getting what we simply want, but we cannot see their smile because we are happy with a simple thing.
Josh’s part where he heed the memories and advise his (a) father gave him. That even though they are not together he promised of keeping them. Remember a milestone in our lives, our first step as a baby? Those gently hands guiding not just our ways but most making sure that if we fall, they are there willing to Catch and pick us up and encourage us to try again.
For Single parents out there, you both the Ma and Pa. you alone is the Mapa.
For those OFW parents (MaPa) doing the great sacrifices for their Kids, Salute! Those OFW Kids making every effort to provide and give back their MaPa’s, Salute.
Watching this masterpiece brings me home every time. Let’s not wait for the time where we regret.. call them now and let them know how much we love and treasure them.

This masterpiece deserves to be heard around the Universe. This song deserves to be sang only by SB19 in different language respectfully. This Love letter hits us Filipino the most because it’s on the original language. The world deserves to hear this on their own language. Petition for our boys (EsBi) to do so. And hey, Watch out for the Easter eggs in the ending Map.

Lataratara - is can translate as 'lets go' or 'come' as word latara or tara in Tagalog Filipino means.
Means the humming is also about convincing them to take a rest.
This song MAPA is truly a very sweet, beautiful,, nice song for both parents and the children.

SB19 is one of the few artist choose to write songs dedicated for their parents. Their very humble and they know where they came from. Their parents are one of their number one fan why they fighting for their dreams. Pablo said in one of their interview " they were inspired to write this song because there are times in their career that their are so busy and they don't have time to go home ang see their parents. Pablo ask each member how they feel that time. When they were living together they decided to write song for their parents to show that even though they are now successful but still their parents are the reason of their achievements.
SB19 are really a great artist. They create music not just to show off or be popular but they create music to inspire and help their listener to express their unshared feeling through SB19 music.

Imagine how "lataratara" fits in this MV, since "La Tara/La Tierra" means the Earth or the world. Especially since the song includes an emphasis in "map" as also seen in the MV, plus in the end they showed the world/globe. I know "la tierra" is Spanish, but since the Philippines have a big influence from Spain, it's not impossible that it may be the case, or maybe a genius play on words by Pablo.

SB19 was nominated in this year's Billboard Music Awards for the Top Social Artist category, along with BTS. BTS eventually won the fan-voted award again, besting the homegrown band along with global K-Pop giants Blackpink, Seventeen, and American pop superstar Ariana Grande.
Kim also shared what he looks for in their talents: passion and eagerness to become stars, all of which he sees in the boy band.

It was a play with words. MAPA means map in English and those are the combination of the first (or the last 😁) syllable of the words mama and papa.

The term "Tahan na" is translated as "stop crying". It doesnt literally mean stop crying but in a metaphorical sense it does.
Heres what I mean: You know when youre a little baby, you cry a lot and youre mom would carry you in her arms, COMFORT you and probably say: there there now [stop crying my child].
With this, we can deffinitively say that we can, in some sense, proceed to conjecture that the closest english counterpart of "Tahan na" is "There There". OR otherwise construed as the words used by our parents to comfort us as babies, or maybe up to our early childhood and teen years, for us to stop crying because theyre there for you, they comfort you. So as babies, we would stop crying, close our eyes, and rest.
Now, The wonderful and extremely emotionally artistic message that this verse impose that makes it a masterpiece, is that THIS TIME, The child is the one saying "Tahan na" to the parent. Mom, Dad, (Ma, Pa also = Mapa/Map [song title]) I will be the one taking care of you now so... "Tahan na".
Map was the title because our parents guided us as our eyes (MAta) and feet (PAa). So that we know which path or direction to take. That eventualy lead to where we are today. We are grateful of their sacrifices and because we now have our map, we can always find our way back to where we all started.

- Pablo (SB19 leader) wrote this song.
- Josh and Ken singing their part hits different since both of them grew up without a dad..Josh never knew his dad and Ken was raised by his grandmother who passed away last year, if I am not mistaken, and Ken was not able to see her for the last time. My heart aches, really.
- The Lataratara part was a lullaby Pablo's grandmother used to sing to him when he was young.
- They did not make an MV to this song because they are leaving it to the listener's imagination/memories; memories with our parents that will play in our mind and think of them as we listen to this song.
- SB19 are geniuses and talented. They write their own songs and choreograph their dance.
I wish international fans can understand tagalog because the depth of the meaning of this song hits different in tagalog specially those word play Pablo made..the translation was good but it cannot fully express as much as tagalog..still, the translation is good.. 🙂. ..

We Filipinos are very close to our parents, they even live with us til they pass. This song makes me cry.. Oh I miss my Mama who passed away 12yrs. ago but thank God I still have Papa with me.
