I went in the winter and all but "return to sender" DH trails were closed. The miniature town was dead, I didnt see a single person the whole day. The drive to Launceston is interesting, some tight switchbacks and cliff edge in places which is a bit hairy when trucks or buses come the other way. I agree, need a posse and a few days there. Lots of xc tracks. Go in Autumn or Spring...
