Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.
I have the largest Small Engine Repair Video Library on UA-cam and the entire internet with over 1200 videos, just GOOGLE "DONYBOY73"!

Hey Dony, I noticed in this vid that this machine moves too slow in reverse and too fast in low gear, can you do a friction wheel alignment vid?
You need to watch this video here;
ua-cam.com/video/IeWqdMgvEsc/v-deo.html
I have the Craftsman, 30 inch, two-stage machine and I'm in the process of replacing both belts, cleaning everything and greasing up the drive system. Had I NOT watched this awesome video, I would have never even though about dropping that belly pan for easier access to the pulley and belts. I'm going to replace that torsion spring on the auger pulley. Picked one up on Ebay for 8 bucks. This ONE video has shown me MORE about the dynamics involved with the belt replacement as well as the machine's need for proper lube and adjustments than any other vid posted thus far! Thank you for taking the time to show us how it's done!
Thanks....it couldn't be any easier to do, the way you explain it. Thanks for showing us the parts numbers. Great video. I like the way you talk to us. In a normal voice. In a lot of videos, the person is yelling at us. They don't use their everyday voice. Again thanks.
Thanks great info on this one and the Auger Belt replacement
I'm so glad I watched your video. Half way through changing the belts on my snowblower in the freezing Western New York weather (they never break in the summer, do they), I thought "I better make sure I'm doing this right." I set down the blow torch and and sledge hammer and came inside. Seriously though, I was just about to remove the entire front end. Thanks again!
Don, these days there is much talk about quality. We have quality people, quality time, quality lifestyle even quality instruction and help aids. As a famous judge once said, "Don't ask me to define quality. I know it when I see it." And see it I did, in your belt changing UA-cam clip. It is outstanding! As a retired university prof having very poor almost nil mechanical skills, your clip save me hours of time, money and best of all frustration. Your fix and repair clips are outstanding ... absolutely outstanding. Thank you ever so much. Roger Crane, Mallory Beach, South Bruce Peninsula, (Wiarton), Ontario
Thanks Roger!
Hey man, your video Saved Me A Bundle. My MTD blower tried to swallow a collapsable
lawnchair that had tipped over and was hidden under the snow. Getting the chair out of the auger was a bitch, but nothing went around when I fired up the engine and pulled the auger handle back. Thanks to your video I investigated and found the auger belt had just slipped off the big pulley. And you're right, getting it back on from above is about impossible because of the little guide toward the bottom of the big pulley. I got this snowblower for free from an older friend who found using the machine to be difficult for him, and I really didn't want to spend a bundle getting it repaired. Thanks a million, or least a couple hundred. Dave in Bend Oregon
Excellent video. We were able to replace a broken auger belt thanks to you.
Great videos. Very helpful and you don't rush thru them. Thanks ver much.
Love Don's videos. Did not yet need to replace belts, but now understand how it all works, and was able to clean friction disc and adjust cables so my gears shift smoothly again, and wheels turn at the correct speed. As good as taking a class in snow blower repair ! Really meticulous camera quality. Thanks !
Excellent video. I did the job yesterday & did the cleanup this morning. This video helped a lot. Blower seems to run fine (though as yet I have no snow to test it on). One trick I discovered on my MTD-made Craftsman blower may not work for all models: the pulley comes apart & goes back together again easily, which makes belt removal & reinstallation easier. Thanks again for this video -- my owner's manual says drive belt replacement is too difficult for owners and says an authorized shop should do it. But it really WASN'T such a big deal.
Donny, I just saved $250 after watching your video, I was able to buy a drive belt for $14 at local GrassLand store. You are are a genius. Your video quality and instruction was very helpful and perfect.
Nicely done. Thanks for posting videos to show us how to keep our snowblowers going. Much appreciated.
thank you for the video. Helped me fix my snowblower.
Calm, cool and collected donyboy. Great job !
Excellent job, very simple in your explanations love it. Thank you very much from Ontario Canada
Wow, thank you so much! You are a lifesaver when the men in my life cannot be contacted. Now I know how important a clean garage is!!
YOU'RE WELCOME!
Thank you so much for showing us all how to repair our blowers. We count on them to do their job every time.
Just helped my son with his Poulan. We followed your instructions for changing the traction belt. Worked like a charm.
We also replaced the drive pulley, since the spring let go & damaged the old one. Many thanks donyboy! Bob in Nfld.
Thanks Dony. I have the same type, but a different brand [Chicago Machinery]. Several years back my snowblower chewed up it's auger belt. I went to replace all the belts [it has 2 auger belts] but they were worn so bad that the belt numbers were no longer visible. It took several hours and two tries to get the correct fitting belts. As they stretched so that their used length wasn't the same as the new length.
The point is, if you spend 5 minutes to take off the cover and write down the numbers of ALL your belts [magic marker], it could possibly save you a lot of time when they do break.
Tremendous video. My wheel drive belt broke a few days ago and this video help me replace and fix the problem without a glitch. Thanks so much.
Dony, @ 6:22 when you are pulling on the idler pulley, I found it much easier to slip a plastic tie around the pulley and pull on the tie instead of the pulley. It frees up much more room to maneuver the belt into place. If you use two that are interlocked into a figure eight, that works even better with even greater room and leverage.
Thank you Dony for this video. I was able to change both belts, never having done that job before. And thank you for teaching us the safety things, so we can do the job with confidence!
i want to thank you a million time, made me save a couple uundreds bucks ! super happy to have found your video, especially since my belts were so damaged i couldn't even read the number on them!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - My snowblower is 10 yrs old. Just replaced the belts, This video Really Helped. The drive belt was pretty good except being a little stretched. The auger belt was like a tank tread in the inside, there was cracks between the treads and stretched. Thank You !
My new Yardworks stopped blowing snow and I saw smoke coming from the belt area and smell, now after watching this I will open the cover to see what's going on, I was sure there is a clutch somewhere , thanks GOD that you have this video, I can fix whatever is the problem but first I want to make sure the auger is not jammed which I think it is, luckily I have another Yardworks 5 years old that did the job today, but we just started the Canadian winter and I want to be ready. thanks a million, thumbs up.
Wow, this is such a good video, I've watched others and i was lost, but u are clear and concise, thankyou
I’m going to Canadian Tire to get a belt right now, actually 2 belts, why not
Always a pleasure to watch one of your videos. I feel relaxed and confident to go fix my snowblower . Thanks.
Wow. Fantastic video. So clear and conscious of all aspects of the job. didn't think I'd be able to fix this myself but after seeing your video I'm going for it. Thanks so much!
Very well done, it is obvious that he has done this work many times before. I appreciate his assistance.
Best videos for small engine repairs! Literally took 10 minutes to complete!
Glad it helped!
Absolutely fantastic videos my friend! Clear, concise and very helpful. Hard pressed to find someone who makes videos and explains their work better. Subscribed!
Great video. No wasted time, just 9:24 minutes of exactly what I came here to learn !!!
One of the best explained videos I've seen ! Kudos ! simple and to the point ! Thank you !
Thanks for the well produced video. My snowblower is a Snapper but they were close enough to get the job done.
Fantastic video. Hit all of the proper points. When I had experienced confusion about this project, this video injected enthusiasm about doing it. Good job. Well presented.
Hi, thanks for sharing your knowledge and your skills whith all of us... You saved my life a couple of times... Your videos=100% quality
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! Easy fix, worked great....very clear instructions.
An absolute WONDERFUL video. Today I replaced the auger belt and when I was done I figured I might as well replace the drive belt while everything is disassembled. I used this video to help me with the drive belt. Thank you so much! This was just perfect!!!!
Glad it helped
Thanks for taking the time to do the video, very informative. Continue helping the world figure small repairs out.
thanks Lee, make sure you're subscribed

Don. So great. You're the best! Thank You so much.
Salute to you sir. You're an excellent mechanic!
Excellent educational Video with a very good pace, sound level and recording details.
Thanks
Thanks good work, good photography and good edits.
I'm about to buy my first snowblower ever (I'm 46 yo, lol) and this was a perfect video!! Thank you!!!
Thank you Don for a GREAT VIDEO. I really appreciate your effort and the quality of your explanations. Please keep up the good work ! Cheers from Quebec, Canada ! ! !
I love that demonstration of how to put the belts on and you do a great job with each video and even though I don't have a snow blower since I am in Arkansas, there are many in many states and provinces who need this information to repair their own equipment.
thanks sidney
I just started working at Sears as a small engine mechanic doing in home service. I love this job and line of work. I used to be an aircraft mechanic in the military. I like how you have your own little shop. That is a dream of mine one day, to make a business out of it. Where did you learn and train to eventually go on your own? You have a lot of knowledge and very professional.
Yes all great advice, The belt fit perfectly (13 year old belt) that snapped on a 50 archer property. I used both kinds of grease, but not to much
Don - your explanations are always so thorough; love your videos!
I know im asking randomly but does any of you know a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot my login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Miles Brycen Instablaster =)
@Rafael Landen I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Rafael Landen it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my ass !
@Miles Brycen you are welcome =)
excellent video Dony, I will purchase the belt through you for sure as I wish to support the free video that you provided, otherwise I would have fumbled with the online manual. Thanks, Bill
So far you helped me fix my Hyundai generator and my MTD Gold snow blower! Thank You for sharing your knowledge! I subscribed !!!
Truly appreciated, thank you and God bless.
Just watched a few of you vids. Very well explained and informative.
Thanks for the video. I just ordered a couple new belts because mine were johnny rotten.
I found that the hardest part for me was pulling the tension pulley onton the drive belt. My old Bolens has a spring that's very hard to reach and clip back onto the frame. You need really long needle nose pliers to reach while putting force on the pulley to get enough slack. Almost a 2 person job.
Great video though. Thanks. Glad I didn't have to take the front end off.
Wicked video, I have the same exact snowblower ! Thanks so much !
Nice clear explanation. Thanks for efficient use of time as well.
Great Video, helped me out so much. Thank you!!!
Thanks Dony. Easy fix.
Thank You Sir for your very informative and visual detail. You are a master of your craft !!

thanks for the great information
Hey Dony,
You look like a good guy to ask a video question about my 3rd year snowblower. I replaced a head gasket, and during that process noticed my crank/ flywheel wouldn't turn over.
Really lost.
Eddie bres
Why oh why didn't I research this before I tried to replace the belt... you would think with as many do-it-yourself videos I watch I'd know better... lol. Thanks!
make sure you're subscribed!
Don, you’re videos are well done and informative. I have a 2014 MTD 33” 357-cc two-stage snowblower that has been used less than 20 times. When I put it in any forward gear, the snowblower moves 10 to 20 feet before it starts slowing down and, without moving the shift lever, starts going backwards. Can you explain how I can fix this problem?
Than You this was informative.
Come on now that was an Excellent Vid. Thank you
As usual, nice video. Thanks for the effort producing it.
Thank you very much. Great video.
When you say the part numbers for particular belts or other parts you should also mention the model number of the snowblower or whatever you are working on because as you obviously know not every part will for every snowblower or other equipment but some people who are doing something like this for the first time and using this video to know how to do it they might think that the part is universal for e everything when it might not be. If I don't personally have a video of something I like to recommend a few other people yourself included for a few things once in awhile so I just figured I'd I'd mention this as some friendly advice.
Anyways thanks for the great video again I just thought I'd give a little friendly advice on that one thing.
Thanks again and have a great day. 🙂👍✌
Put ANTI - SEIZE Compound, it's a multi-purpose copper-based anti-seize compound, reinforced with graphite and molybdenum on all bolts.
Thanks Don, good video. And also the auger belt one. 👍🏻 I haven't used my Yardman (The model is 31AY95KV643.) snowblower much over the years but after 10+ years it has all the symptoms of slipping belts. It doesn't want to go very easily, often needs a push if there is any irregularity on the ground. When its moving it goes ok though. Also the auger is blocked very easily in any kind of snow. Today I even smelled the belt while trying to use the blower and it was blocked maybe the 30th time today. I saw the impeller trying to move but it couldn't before I dug all the snow out. And when it blows it blows weakly, only couple of meters away. Few years back it was still really strong. The motor runs great, I believe its fine. My problem is that I have difficulty in finding the correct belts for it though. The brand was very briefly sold here and nobody knows what belts are correct for it. Everybody just wants to sell me a new blower instead. And I haven't found a parts list for it yet. Any tips for the correct part numbers or belt specs? Anybody?
Having same problem. Model number 31be5b3h515 it has 060-3758-0 below that. Its a 30" yardworks 10.5 hp. Same as the one in vid. Cant find a manual or parts list. Any luck?
Thanks for the video👍
