Understanding Balances and Buying Power on ThinkorSwim

Today, we're going to learn some key terms related to balances and buying power on the ThinkorSwim. This includes Net Liq, Cash & Sweep, Option Buying Power, Stock Buying Power, and Day Trading Buying Power.

"Net Liquidating Value" (Net Liq) is the total value of your account, reflecting the sum of your cash and the current market value of your positions.
"Cash & Sweep Vehicle" is your uninvested cash plus funds automatically "swept" into a linked money market fund or insured deposit account. For example, a negative figure indicates a margin balance.
"Option Buying Power" indicates funds available to buy/sell options contracts. The approval level from your broker determines the margin requirement for short options strategies.
"Stock Buying Power" shows the amount available to purchase marginable stocks. The stocks you can buy depend on the broker's margin department. Use caution to avoid a potential margin call.
"Day Trading Buying Power" is the maximum capital for day trading (only applicable to accounts over $25,000). Remember to adhere to regulations like the Pattern Day Trader rule.
Lastly, "Available Funds for Trading" is essentially similar to the option buying power but can vary if you've recently deposited money into your account.

Can you help with, let’s say I am looking for an entry such as when the chart shows the price breaking resistance of previous high, but my timing ⏱️ in/out is too slow when it comes to placing an options call, what can I do to speed things up on my end to help with my slow reaction Time

Oh also I had an option open and I was trying to close it and it kept showing a number like 160.00 on my pc when placing the order, unfortunately the number was how much I ended up losing and since it didn’t have a -160.00 on it I didn’t know that’s what it was saying, is there a way to color code the desktop program because on your guys app it is color coded as a loss or gain red/green to make it easier to know if money is being gained or lost

This is invaluable! It'd be nice if you did an in depth video on things like margin balance, margin equity, and equity percentage. An emphasis for futures and options on futures traders would be really helpful. :)

Day trading buying power, what was left out. is if you bought 288k of AAPL and sold it 10 mins later., are you done for the day or could one make add'l 288k trades and then flatten out at days end?

Unlike trading with a cash account, A margin accounts Day trading Buying Power resets as soon as you exit the trade. So yes, you could make 100's of 288k trades. It's easy to see 2+ million in transactions in a day even without large size and a smaller 25-30k account. A good thing for small cash accounts is that the new T+1 settlement will take effect this year allowing the funds to be available the very next day for trading.
