    Agree on the Marana having a good mix of board feel and protection. Unfortunately I can't find half sized shoes in Australia, so mine are a bit too tight right now.

    thanks for your input. i love the non abrasive grip tape on my short board, shoes are expensive and as long as im not in the rain the tape works great.

    Great video! Personally, New Balance has some of the best skate shoes in the market. The protection & comfort are better than most shoes, and they are pretty durable (in my experience). I have a few pairs of the 440 (Lows and Highs), and they feel great on my feet, which is perfect since I have wide feet. And I skate street, so I get a lot out of them.

    Excellent review! I haven't tried NB yet but I got some Etnies Windrow Vulc Mids and they are like all of the best parts of these shoes. You get the ankle protection, board feel, they broke in crazy fast, seemingly by the time I walked out the door and they are holding up to the grip punishment very well. I would try DLK but here in soggy Florida it may not work for all conditions.

      Ahh, I was looking at those vulc mids recently for that reason. Might be a future shoe 💪 glad to hear they are holding up.

    I recently got the high top new balance 440 yesterday and just walking around with them and daily wear is really comfortable. Im planning to try these out for freestyle skateboarding so I’ll let u know how that goes.

      I will! A bunch of people have been curious, but I also didn't want to talk about it until I really skated it a bunch. 6 months in, and I'm working on the video right now! :D

    Nice breakdown! You mentioned the unimpressive insoles. Do you have a go-to replacement or do you just live with them?

    • @SarahParkMatott
      @SarahParkMatott  Рік тому +1

      I do have some of the FP insoles. I have two different kinds, but can't remember the models. I definitely like them better than stock insoles, but it feels like they get a little hard when it's cold and aren't as comfortable for me. So, kind of mixed reviews on my end. At first I loved them, then as it got cold, I didn't as much haha

    I have Etnies Marana Michelin and the upper part of the sole chewed just doing a couple of knee slides on a ramp, so it's a problem of the shoes for sure

    It looks like you are making a lot of progress. The trick footage looked good. You've had a lot of tricks for awhile but still looked like a beginner, but, that appears to be going away. You look like you're getting things smooth. I have several pairs of the New Balance 440 low tops. I haven't been using them for skating though. They look too nice. The quality of the materials that they use are excellent. I've been skating Adidas Busenitz Vulc IIs which I've found to be very comfortable. I found that Adidas runs sales around holidays. Actually, they had them for dirt cheap on Black Friday. $38. And they had several other skate shoes real cheap too. I found that it's best to pick up several pairs when they go on sale. I finally wore a hole through the sole on my front foot. I think that foot wears out faster on the bottom because I push my board forward and catch it when I pick it up. I used to wear mid-tops years ago but have an ankle that bothers me. I was afraid to use low tops at first, but, found that low tops seems to be better for the simple reason that they let my ankle move around better. I've been thinking it would be nice to have something higher though. I've been working on ollies and they are still a bit mob at this point and I've been nicking the side of my ankle with the nose when I ollie. What kind of non-abrasive grip tape did you say you were using? How do you like it? It seems like there needs to be innovation on grip tape like what Powell did with Dragon wheels. Constantly shredding shoes is just a waste.

    • @SarahParkMatott
      @SarahParkMatott  Рік тому

      Thanks! Well, I have only been skating 2 and a half years now. So, I still do feel like a beginner most of the time. In skate years, it's really not that long to me lol But, I also can feel it. The comfort always going up! I've used DKL. It's definitely a little less grippy than jessup. But, I found it to perform pretty well. I actually just used a sheet of jessup to try out again this winter. We'll have to see how it feels. I also agree we need more innovation in grip.

      @@SarahParkMatott You're making a lot of good progress and learning a lot of tricks. I skated for 5 years when I was younger and started up again a couple years ago. You have figured out a lot more tricks than I have over the past couple years. I'm still working on not looking like a spaz

    The hand stand trick was cool too. You should get into doing street plants too, Mike Vallely style. I don't know why people call them "circus tricks" these days. Inverts used to be one of my strong points. I hope to get them back at some point. Used to be able to do ho-ho plants. Walk them around. Do a sad ho-ho. Lay it on one leg, etc. I think that needs to make a come back.

    • @SarahParkMatott
      @SarahParkMatott  Рік тому +2

      Yeah, and the yoyo plant too. I think they are making a comeback in freestyle. I've been seeing them more recently. I also wish skaters stopped calling them "circus tricks".

  • @TRONMAGNUM2099

    Ty for the review. I tried the New Balance 440's, and they were too narrow for my feet. Usually you can get New Balance shoes in a variety of widths but not their skate shoes. The Lakai's would probably be comfortable but not offer me the protection I want. I'd probably wear them as everyday shoes since I love the color and best of all they are Velcro. That gives them extra style points in my opinion. Right now I am skating Van's SK8-Hi Wide. After replacing the insoles I find them to be a decent shoe to skate in.

    • @SarahParkMatott
      @SarahParkMatott  Рік тому

      right? They must be narrow since they were pinching my toes like that. I think I might end up trying another pair of Etnies when I eventually need a pair, since they seem to be the decent medium. But we'll see! :D I like the velcro too! Never thought of it as extra style points, but enjoy them nonetheless 😂
