Sudan 3: seperates Lipids from Solution. Biuret Solution: changes Protien to Pink or purple. Iodine Solution: turns Starch to Blue Black. Benedict's Solution: turns Reducing Sugars to Yellow/brown/red/orange, depending on the concentration of the solution.
is there an easy way to remember this i just can't get my head around this it won't stick to me and it is really annoying any tricks or anything would be helpful
Tbh. Both the Sudan 3 and ethanol test for lipids. It doesn't matter which one you chose to remember. On the spec it doesn't specify which one you need to know. I just remember the ethanol one
I don’t know if I need to learn the Sudan 111 test or the ethanol test, I’ve learned the ethanol test so far because I find it simpler but I’m doing aqa science not edexcel, do you have any advice
ethanol test is also AQA so you should be fine. BBC bitesize and freesciencelessons both use the ethanol test for lipids and their information is for AQA biology.
@@Emily-ty1sd Sure but in the O level syllabus, they mention 3cm cube but not the temperature so I was wondering whether or not the temperature should be reduced. I later clarified with my biology teacher and she said that temperatures from 50 to 75 degrees celsius were acceptable.

Benedicts:
Positive = Green, Yellow Or Brick Red. Negative= Stays blue.
Iodine:
Positive= Blue, Black.
Negative= Stays yellow.
Biruet:
Positive= Turns Purple, Pink
Negative= Stays blue
Sudan:
Postive= bright red layer
Emulsion- ethanol:
Positive =Cloudy white colour
Negative= no cloudy white colour

Flashcards help alot, really recommend installing a flashcard app if you prefer doing it that way.
I found it quite hard too, but read through it and get your siblings or friends or parents or guardians to test you.

Non-reducing sugars aren't in the edexcel spec, if your doing aqa then idk. but we only need to learn the reducing sugars for edexcel.

Because water and fats repel each other, thus you can see if lipids are presented in the substance

For the Benedict's test, if we use 3cm cube of food sample should we still keep the water bath at 75 degrees celsius?
i would presume so but the instructions specify 5cm cubed therefore it wont be accurate rigth?
