The Regis were the introduction to the "Thing + material" naming convention of the paradox pokemon. If they were released today, it would be called Rock Regi
Actually, the Paradox Pokemon are based on how actual scientists name actual real life species It's just the real scientists use latin to sound smarter
I remember a game I once played (gen 3 OU) where my opponent switched in Regirock against my +1 Snorlax. I decided to try something goofy with my Snorlax set and substituted in Earthquake instead of Rest for surprise factor. He switched in on a crit-EQ and survived, which left me flabbergasted at how bulky it was. It then used a Choice-Banded Superpower that OKHOed my Snorlax to stop a potential sweep. After that I decided to give Regirock a try and I’ve been loving it ever since. I’m relatively new to ADV OU but I’ve been having a blast exploring the tier.
Regirock saying to himself "im the bulkiest physically defensive rock type im the bulkiest physically defensive rock type" before seeing garganacl walk past and breaking down into tears
Love the Regis, to bad ice is just a bad type defensively and my favourite "regigigiagagagaaaaaa eoeoeohouuuu hahahaaaaaaaaAAAaaAAaaa" has slow start as his only ability.
The regis are all doomed in someway by the design Rock & ice: poor defensive type Steel: poor offensive stats Gigas: worst ability in game Draco: weird stat distribution Eleki: poor coverage
Kind of weird that Regirock didn’t get sand stream in gen 3 but T-tar did. Regi is literally found in the desert whereas the T-tar line are mountain-based Pokémon

Regirock is one of my favorite Pokemon of all time. I don't really know how to describe it. The treasure hunt to find it as a kid hyped me up, and it just looks and feels like an unstoppable juggernaut. Thankfully, in Gen 3, it actually has the space to play like one!
On one hand, I'm very glad you made a video about Regirock, because it deserves more love. On the other hand, now more people will know what it is capable of and will play better against it...
@@marcoasturias8520Rolling Stone (Rock/Fire, as a rolling stone gathers no moss), Frosty Peaks (Ice/Ground) and Iron Maiden (Steel/Fairy) for Scarlet vs Iron Jet (Flying/Dragon, Tornadus-Therian), Iron Storm (Electric/Water, Thundurus-Therian) and Iron Pride (Ground/Fighting, Landorus-Therian) for Violet
Here’s what I’d do to make the Gen 3 Regis usable: -Regirock gets the ability Rock Absorb, which if it switches into Stealth Rock or is hit by a Rock-type move, heals it by 1/4 of its max HP instead of taking damage. It also gets the signature move Sandstone Smash, a physical Rock move that sets up sandstorm. -Regice gets the ability Permafrost, which quarters damage from Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel. It also gets the signature move Subzero Storm, a special Ice move that sets up snow. -Registeel gets the ability Tempered Steel, which increases its Sp. Def by 2 if hit by a Fire-type move instead of taking damage. It also gets the signature move Wolfram Whip, which has boosted priority. -Slow Start is reworked so that Regigigas’ Attack and Speed are lowered by 2 stages each upon switch in, but it gets a free Dragon Dance (+1 Attack and Speed) at the end of every turn.
I feel like the best way to fix slow start is to make it a transformation; whether you do it all at once or in stages, make it so that after burning through slow start, you can switch in and out without resetting it.
I'd reduce Regice's ability, give it Cold absorb to be simular to regirock. Ice absorb should give an immunity to ice moves (with 25% healing) and +12.5% healing in snow.
i like to watch your videos of pokemon I'll never even use because your videos are very relaxing to listen to. You've replaced even False Swipe as my go to competitive pokemon ASMR channel.
I don't play competitive, but I theorycrafted the idea of a Regirock lead a while ago when I read the old Smogon article on good lead Pokemon and noticed that it beats the hell out of Salamence, Zapdos, Aero, Regice, Snorlax, Tauros, Jolteon, etc, especially with a choice band set. But then I thought about it more and realized that Metagross wins most of those matchups as well and concluded it wasn't worth it. And although I understand that nowadays Tyranitar and Skarmory are used as leads as well, it seems like Regirock would maul the former and be spikes fodder for the latter, again just like Metagross who can at least consider thunderpunch or something as a surprise.
You think Curse will be a good option for a defensive Regirock? A couple of Curses and no physical attacker will be able to break Regirock. This could be a good idea once the special attackers have been dealt with.
The tragedy of rock types. Conceptually designed to be defensive, cursed to be only good at offense. All because generation 1 decided to have them be the first type fought, when most moves you would have would be resisted.
there's communities for Gen 3 Doubles OU and Orre Colosseum (Doubles format from Pokemon XD similar to VGC) Gen 3 OU just happens to be a great singles format IMO. I think most doubles players prefer modern Gens

How to make regirock good in modern gens: give him salt cure and recover. Oh wait, that already exists, its called garganacl.
Not getting Recover when it literally rebuilds itself is WILD
I wonder if a different ability would have done anything for it. Like, what if it got Solid Rock instead of Sturdy for example?
