You are on point with all your notes, we must have very similar taste buds, cause I agree 100% with you on this blind. To me Blanton’s always surprise me. One day I don’t like it and other days I love it, Don’t know why is that. One that follows is Eagle Rare, sometimes I have to put a little bit of Buffalo trace in it to mask some of the bitterness and sometimes I like it as it is, but the woods notes are always very good. Buffalo trace is always nice and bright and one that is always amazing and never disappoint is EH Taylor, which is my favorite of the bunch as well.
Having the EHT at 100 proof is easy to pick out. Out of all these I still prefer Eagle Rare but haven’t had the barrel proof Blantons yet. I have a bottle of Buffalo Trace that I hit now and then as my first glass of the evening. Then I’ll go for something with a bit more proof and it helps me get better notes off the higher proof pour. Not sure why more people don’t have a lower proof first pour before tasting to get there taste buds and nose ready? Nice tasting and comparison. Enjoy!!
Yeah, coming out of this blind it was so clear the EHT had more punch and it stood out a lot. And warm up pours can be crucial, especially when diving into a high proof whiskey. Cheers!
A good “benchmark” to compare would be… Benchmark! My friends and I just did an almost identical blind, substituting Benchmark Small Batch where you have Blanton’s. My logic was that the higher end of the BT lineup was covered by the EH Taylor (which I prefer over Blanton’s), and it would interesting to throw a $17 bottle into the mix. Incidentally, Eagle Rare was the unanimous favorite, followed by Benchmark.
E.. H Taylor, Blanton’s, Eagle Rare Buffalo Trace. Hard to say. I like them all. Actually have all four and may do the same blind. Thanks again for sharing.
Thanks for playing along! You were close for sure. And yeah, I struggle with Blanton's. Maybe my single barrel is lackluster because honestly I just don't like it much. Wish I could get my hands on another one to compare but that's easier said than done. Thanks again for watching and cheers!
Oddly enough I've been looking for this exact setup for a video! In the recent past, I purchased a BT, Eagle Rare, and a still-sealed EH single barrel.
Great blind! Really enjoyed you going through this. Also…appreciate the footnotes to let us know what you are tasting while going through the flight. In my opinion, all 4 are pretty solid, when you can find them and pay fair prices. Cheers!
My Blanton’s barrel must be better than yours, I would have placed it third and the Buffalo Trace fourth. I totally agree with your first and second. Great video
Thanks! Yeah my single barrel could definitely be lackluster. I honestly don't like it much and struggle to pull out the good notes. Glad yours is solid. Cheers!
Good video. Same pallet as me. Love Buffalo Trace bourbons, but Blanton’s falls a little short for me. EH Taylor sets the bar for me. I did a couple pours of Blantons today at a bar just to make sure I’m making the right decision to use Blantons as a trade. Hopefully, I can find someone who hasn’t tried Blanton’s and has a spare bottle of Russells 13 or 1792 full proof.
I just did a similar blind last week, I think Eagle Rare is a little bit better than EH Taylor. I like the oak in Eagle Rare and find it to be more balanced.
Must be down to the barrel Blantons is my favourite followed by EH and eagle rare. Never had buffalo trace only available at 80 proof in Ireland so haven't bothered.
I did a similar blind with all but the standard BT, and I chose the same order. Not sure if I tasted all 4, where the Blanton's and BT would fall. I like BT, I love Eagle Rare, and EH Taylor is one of my absolute Bourbon favorites, period. I do like Blanton's, it's just clouded from the hype. It's good, but it's not the nectar of the gods some make it out to be.
Thanks for the video. Didn't have the E.H. Taylor yet, only the BT, ER and the Blantons and i think i share your impressions. ER is my overall favourite Bourbon yet. If you consider the price, how would you rank them then? In my market you get ER at around 35€ EH for over 115€ and the blantons around 100€. Not sure how your prices are, but would you still rank the EH Taylor over the ER for almost triple the price?
Thanks for watching and glad the video was informative. To answer you question, no. I don't think EH Taylor is worth triple the price of ER. Both are really good but I do give the edge to EH Taylor. But I'd stock up on the three ERs and hope to see EH Taylor at a more reasonable price. It's better to me but not at that level. Hope that's helpful! Cheers.
Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, and E. H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch are all mash bill #1. Blanton's is mash bill #2. It should be expected that Blanton's differs from the other three. My personal preference is E. H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch as it its that spot at 100 proof and has the full flavor with a bit less oak on the end, compared to Eagle Rare. But if I can get any of these three mash bill #1 at retail, I will buy as many as I can.
Great blind of some of my favorites. I have 18 bottles of Buffalo Trace bunkered, as I use it as a primer bourbon. I have 6 EH Taylor Small Batch, 3 EH Taylor Single Barrel, 6 bottles of Eagle Rare. I am like you…I only have 1 bottle of Blanton’s just to have on the shelf for guests. Very overrated and my least favorite of these. 🥃
Haha yeah not exactly how it shook out. I knew EHT was the frontrunner and with more proof it really stood out. My Blanton's must be a lackluster single barrel cause it's not very good...or maybe I just don't like it. Thanks for playing along!! Cheers.

Eagle Rare will always be my fav from BT 😋🦅🥃

Based on what you said about Blanton’s I should have put that in last. Would have been right on. Great lineup all around though.

people love to hate Blantons for whatever reason
Great blind! Really enjoyed you going through this. Also…appreciate the footnotes to let us know what you are tasting while going through the flight. In my opinion, all 4 are pretty solid, when you can find them and pay fair prices. Cheers!
For fair prices, definitely all solid. Thanks for watching and cheers!

Good stuff, that’s how I would have put it before drinking. I have a Benchmark SB that easily beats Blanton’s.
Nice! Sounds like we've got similar palates then. EHT for the win! Cheers!
I just did a similar blind last week, I think Eagle Rare is a little bit better than EH Taylor. I like the oak in Eagle Rare and find it to be more balanced.
Makes a lot of sense. ER is very nice. I think I just like the extra punch the 100 proof of EHT provides. Cheers!

Agreed on Blanton's for sure. Seems like we have very similar palates overall. Thanks for watching and cheers!

Thanks for the repy. What price gap would be your threshold to get the EH Taylor over the ER?@@thebourbonhutch9574

Dang! Thanks a good lineup. How's the EH Taylor Single Barrel compared to the small batch? I'd love to get a bottle of that some day. Cheers!
@@thebourbonhutch9574 Some small batches are as good as the Single Barrel. Would love to find a Barrel Proof at MSRP.
EH, ER,B, BT. Let’s see….
So I'm going to say ER, B's, EH T, BT. I'm not cheating. Let's see how I do...

It amazes me that sometimes I can’t stand Blanton’s and the next day it taste just amazing.
@@prtube1That’s very common with Blanton’s. It’s known to be very inconsistent from bottle to bottle
