- Happy New Year and happy new closet!
My biggest resolution for the new year was to declutter my closet. I am embarrassed to say I had no idea anymore what was in there and I had just started wearing whatever fell out first. When you declutter you not only create space in your home, but also in your mind. Finally I can see clearly what I have and more important: respect what I have!

I'm glad she said this is a 'luxury problem', because it is. So many people in this world only have the clothes on their back. 😪

Imagine you're going thrift shopping at the store Doutzen and her husband brought all of her clothes and shoes. I'd be in for the biggest thrift surprise of my life, lol.
She is so refreshing. Most women are competing how big and how much clothes, shoes and bags they have and here she is totally opposite.
Hence her huge closet... The average Dutch closet is as big as the average American fridge....
For some reason I always thought of you of someone with a minimalist wardrobe.

I've been using the Konmari method for roughly five years (going through an annual cleaning every spring/summer), but I've noticed that none of my cleanings have been as dramatic as my first. I really learned to apply the Konmari method to my life and lifestyle and make sure to only buy things when necessary or when they spark joy, which has given me so much headspace. Really recommend this for anyone who hasn't tried it yet! We often own more stuff than we think :)
Thanks for sharing your story, I always tell myself: If I can't remember what I have, I probably have too much. But maybe that's taking it too far
@@MultiCombo1 Not at all! My sister says that too actually, but it doesn't work for me since I have a terrible memory hahaha. But it's totally a valid way of thinking! Especially when you buy things you already have or already have good substitutes for. My parents do this a lot too. The amount of kitchen appliances they have bought twice or even three times. It's crazy.
I'm watching this as laughing so hard 🤣 my husband loves 💕to declutter....but all the time!!! I mean I may be away for a few days and I come home to an empty pantry - no food - he's given it all away, the fridges are empty too, he just gives away all his wardrobe and doesn't care if he has 2 t-shirts. Umm, he's done that with my clothes too...I sometimes remember things he's given away that I forgot all about 😳😩 but you are right; its a luxury problem to be able to get rid of our good clothes and ensure that those who don't have anything to wear it. After 20 years I am now used to not being attached to clothes or items anymore, no matter how expensive because someone else really appreciates it more than I did. I actually love old second-hand clothes, and my mum started this when she bought a dress made in 1960. I now have a few old items that I enjoy wearing. Country towns have the best second-hand clothing. and OMG 😮 Sunnery!!! I've never owned that many shoes in my entire life 😂🤣 but just think how many people you made happy that they've got awesome shoes to wear 👍✌🏻

Hi Doutzen! I did exactly the same thing recently, but with less very less clothes 😁 I donated them. You're right saying "cleaning closet is cleaning mind". It's really good. I do not buy like I used to do. I just want to have things I'm sure I wear, in which I feel well and that last for years😃

Even though Doutzen is a well-known model and actress, she's very down to earth. She is someone you can actually have a conversation with about life (family, work, one's self, etc.) You can feel it and see it that her videos are not staged but REAL from REAL PEOPLE.

It's important that we think before we buy a clothing-piece, because we don't need a lot of clothes, but just clothes that we can wear year in year out.

Love your video and the idea! Just my suggestion for next time, instead of donating these clothes (I assume most of them are high-end) as they might not be compatible and practical with the people who receive the donation, perhaps you can sell these items online and use the money for charity purpose? I am sure lots of us would like to support the cause and be happy to take part in the clothes-recycling movement :)
