    Starlight baby!!!
    AN/PVS-2 Starlight scope.
    We used it in USAF in Germany to teach people and help them understand before they moved up to better stuff.

    NV Rifle setup vs Thermal Rifle setup? Pros vs Cons

    • @ryaniam22
      @ryaniam22 Рік тому

      The only advantage to a clip on night vision device vs a clip on thermal I can see is allowing higher magnification with higher resolution. Thermal is WAY more effective for target ID and now with 640 screens good to a least 6x magnification. I don't see why anyone who isn't a sniper would ever buy a clip on NV when a thermal does everything the same or better.
      For helmet mounted and close range combat NV has advantages. Mostly you can use a red dot through them at rapid speed. Again thermals can't use a red dot and your looking at a screen so there is some minute lag time. The newest ones don't lag at all but cost like 8k+.
      Get a pvs14 and an ecoti and your kicking ass

      Get em both. $1500 thermal scope and $2k gen2 pvs14 is all you need.

    Has TNVC ever considered producing their own clip-on system? I know you guys are working on Artemis, so getting into the market with your own housings, designs, etc is obviously in the cards. A TNVC produced white phosphor clip on system similar to the PVS30 would be awesome. There seems to be void in the market for clip-on systems (at least on the civilian side). A new quality option from a reputable company like TNVC would be refreshing.

    Video on NV devices is ironically too dark.

    My guess (I could be wrong) but the type of guy that's willing to spend $6000-$7000+ for a clip on, isn't gonna throw it in front of a Walmart Bushnell...lol. I could be wrong though, folks can be strange...lol.

    I am not very knowledgeable on this subject. What makes clip on night vision better than thermal? Is a clip-on night vision better than a clip on thermal? Thank you for making this video

      Clip on nvg is lot cheaper than the thermal units that give you the same performance. Example, price a UTCXii vs a CNVD-LR. You get better PID performance with nvg. I hunt coyotes and hogs at night and also do some deer depredation work. I run NVG to shoot with and thermal to spot. With NVG you will not mistake a shepherd for a coyote and shoot the neighbor’s dog. You can ID clothing, facial features, wording, see through glass....with nvg, but not thermal.
      Another plus for nvg. I was hunting a field once and saw a coyote come out of a wooded creek bottom. I spotted him with my head mounted SkeetIRX. When I went to aim at him I noticed a little bit of dim light through the woods behind him. Turns out the neighboring farmer was crusing his fence line on a Gator and had run the coyote up out of the creek to my side. The farmer was below a dip in the field and I saw his head lights reflecting off the hill on his side of the creek. I could not see this light with my eye. Had I only been running thermal, I would have shot that coyote and sent a 6mm berger over his way as well.

    if you had limited funds, would you rather have a pvs 14 and a clip-on or a set of binos?

    • @The_John_Galt
      @The_John_Galt 3 роки тому +6

      Get a Quality PVS-14, maybe the L3 PVS-14 2376 Min FOM, quality mount Wilcox and wilcox adapters and learn and use it for a while, and find excuses to use it at night all the time in every different place. Then after a while you might find you want thermal on gun rather than Clip on, you might find you want a better laser illuminator like a MAWL, and down the road you might find you want duals. But what you're going to learn most is specs of the system you got, what it can do, and you'll find after a few months what you want and what your short comings are.
      This way you're not jumping into the game spending your budget now and then regretting later.
      This will help you find what specs are valuable to you and what capability is valuable to you. You'll be 100x happier doing it this way in the long run.

      @@diegoperez0 read what I said again. What ensures that the clip on doesn't change the zero? This is a common complaint with clip ons. I like clip ons and have one but recognize there's a place for dedicated sights

      @@jrgfox 27 is bulkier and can interfere with rail mounted accessories a little more than the 30. 27 is a little more ergonomic to use as far as focusing goes. Pick your poison, both can be had for about the same price and work basically the same.
