Just found this UA-camr a few days now and I can translate this to my swing very good. After one hour of practice and I can feel a solid contact on the ball already. My PW jumped from 90 yards into 120 yards. Best instructor ever. Thanks a lot Russell. 08-2021.

This is your best video. Excellent description and well explained. You say it , then show it , then review it- well done. It takes work to change but oh how I love the sound of a sweet hit that compressed the ball. You have laid it out well. Thanks so much for your teaching and your help. I have improved my swing and it has been fun . I still have along way to go but I keep watching your videos ( you really are a professor of golf) and learning. I take it to the range and then the course. And then do it all again to get that “ah ha moment”. You responded to a comment I made a while back. You told me to stay with it an not to give up as it will come to me. I had to do a lot of review and hard work but nothing worthwhile is going to happen unless you (me) keep trying. Thanks again.

I have watched this video probably 200 times and it has changed the way I strike the ball, from clean/ thin, to solid with compression. After hitting an iron off the tee i never had to look for the tee as it was always exactly where I placed it. Now I nearly always lose it. For years I have been swaying into a solid left leg with very little or no rotation. I now rotate freely with all the swing checkpoints from the downswing to impact to full follow through. I cannot believe it has taken me this long to get it. Once I fully understood each part it took me 2 weeks on the driving range and about 1,000 balls and I now only have 1 swing thought, start weight transfer into a bent left leg. Most of the other stuff I was already doing but because of starting the weight transfer into a straight left leg, the strike was always left and thin. This made me question my entire swing, I wish I could meet you in person to shake your hand, a big thanks. Just something funny that you may not be aware of, I once had to watch with subtitles because of the wife, have a read between 11:30 and 11:50 it made me chuckle🤣

This is the best, most succinct, and relatable explanation of the Golf swing I have EVER seen. Russell 47 years of playing the "old fashioned" way of leg drive, tilted spine away from the target, etc. I have been working hard at learning how to rotate around my spine and not play from under the plane with an armsy, "flipped" clubhead. Your videos are terrific, easy to understand and really helpful. I have watched some of George Gankas's videos, similar in some ways, but I really enjoy your explanations and drills to achieve the changes I desire. If I was not in the US, I would be there to see you quite often. I will take video and send it to you. Cheers, Eddie (aka Gibby)

Hi Edward, look at Mike Malaska videos and you will see way you play under the plane. Russell"s explanation of body movement in backswing and downswing are terrific but clubhead is to far "behind" on down swing for average golfer and flipping of wrists in last moment to square club requires Tiger's timing. You my gain extra speed but no consistency.

Russel, thank you heartily for the tip about the left rip cage rising. This was the key for my swing, as it creates a full extension though the ball! Previously I concentrated on pulling through with my left lat, and it was effective, but your tip about raising your left rib cage is so much more effective. I have always had good connection but your tip has made it even better.

What I find so different with your instruction over others that I have watched is: you explain what to do, how to do it, why you do it that way, what happens when we don't do it the proper way and why that happens when we don't do it the proper way.

    Great video, thanks for sharing.
5:50 regarding golf swing being like baseball swing move where back elbow comes down. It is true that the back elbow in the baseball swing will get into the slot. However, if you lead with the elbow in baseball (meaning elbow gets ahead of your hands), you have "bat drag". This is a fatal flaw when hitting a ball coming at you 90 mph.
Here is a funny thing: I have one of my sons who uses his hands well in the baseball swing and does not have bat drag, meaning he gets his hands around and keeps them in front of his back elbow. However, he struggles with the golf swing. And then one of my other sons naturally has a great golf swing with great trailing elbow position. But go figure, he has bat drag in the baseball swing and we have been working a lot on getting his hands into it.
At least with some aspects of the swings, what is good for golf is not good for baseball and vice versa.

I liked your explanation about stable upper right leg and sequence of movement on downswing, really fantastic. Only my preference is early release and more vertical ( as teached by Mike Malaska) because eliminates club falling behind which then requires wrist movement and perfect timing otherwise as average golfer you are 90 percent late and hit slice.

I have played this wonderful game for over 20 years now. Much of my questions and feelings about my swing you have touched on or explained so well. I mean it is like you are in my head. I now understand that I started to play as a more vertical swing guy then changed into a rotary swing when i was more athletic and younger i must say. Hit it long back then. Then somewhere not sure when, probably in an attempt to save my back, i went back vertical. Now trying to go back rotary to gain some distance back i am hitting behind the ball. I mean way behind the ball. On a hard mat i still hit the ball, You touched on this effect on one video and i then understood why . Just wanted to say sir, thank you. Oh and I would like to know, What is in Russell Heritage's bag?

How do you become comfortable with the early squaring of the clubface? I've been playing since the early '80's with kind of an early release and can play quite well occasionally. Never had much distance and it takes a lot of practice to make the timing repeatable. Just started working on squaring the face earlier and it's quite uncomfortable still. Thankfully winter has me working indoors only for 3 1/2 more months so I've got time. You're doing great work. Keep it up. Cheers.

Great viedo. What is the first movement of the right elbow in the downswing ? is it straight down or across in the direction of the ball-target line (and inducing right forearm supination) ?

QUESTION: As you begin to explain (12:15) how the hands are coming into the impact position - Would you recommend practicing that move with half-swings before attempting full-swings? As you mentioned, it is a new feeling for some and practicing that move may help. Suggestions?

Yeah maybe, I’ll be doing practice videos in the New Year. I would recommend slower full swings maybe rather than half.

When holding angles feels like I'm going to hit the ground is it because standing up? Or lead shoulder not going up enough ? Any suggestions?
