    I realized I was casting when I developed ulnar sided wrist pain (the Wrist Widget is great) especially when I used my driver. I then was forced to learn how to chip and pitch properly and learned that a full iron swing is sort of an extension of the chip/pitch witch goes along with your advice. You have helped immensely. Thanks!

    Looking for some drill to emphasize the “ FEEL” of staying on the trail leg and pushing on it(?), while initiating the downswing: very difficult part of the swing, I guess that trail leg has to bend ( r know) a little bit, louons any throwing motion....

    Excellent explanation , thank you Russel. One quick question: After the initial lower body move takes the left arm back to parallel on downswing, do we feel that we release hands from there or do we continue the chest rotation to take the hands in front of the ball and lag self releases ? Thanks so much.

    Excellent transition (pump) drill using shoulders and elbow. That is the main point of the video.Stopping casting is just a consequence of the drill.Casting is not really the main point. Its a drill for a proper transition to avoid casting and to create a proper form and sequence for the downswing from the top.,

    What do you do if you're not flexible enough to get the club past 45 degrees at the top of the swing? Ive struggled with casting because I'm essentially set up to cast due
    to lack of flexible wrists and shoulder joints. Additionally it's hard for me to get my lead arm past 9 o'clock on the backswing as well. Is there any approach to the golf
    swing that works for this situation? Do you just have to speed up the tempo to keep the hands in front of the club head? I know I'll never hit it that far with my restrictions but
    I should be able to consistently avoid casting and hit more balls on the sweet spot.

    • @ryanfagan8503
      @ryanfagan8503 4 роки тому +2

      I would say too much tension at the top. Release the tension and get the feel of your arms “falling in” with the start of your downswing. It’s tricky because you think you will loose power and subconsciously you want to control that with your hands and arms. But. You don’t need to.
      If positions are correct. Ball, spine angle etc are correct it works. Like snapping a towel or a whip. This helps your hands get a small head start down. Try and practice swing and get that feel. Best to try it without a ball or on the range. This way you don’t have the thought of having to hit a target distance. Have to learn to trust it.

    Hi Russell, I loved this drill it's helped me feel the sensation of lag for the first time. I can achieve this by really relaxing the right wrist when I drop that elbow on the downswing as opposed to tensing it aggressively and casting. My only issue is that when I relax the face comes down open. I know I need to bow the left wrist to square the face but as soon as I do that my wrists tense and i start casting again. Could you please suggest a drill or video to get past this?

    • @russellheritagegolf
      @russellheritagegolf  4 роки тому

      We’ll just hold the angle of the right wrist and you’ll be fine. You don’t need to bow the left wrist at all to square the face. Also remember club face looks different at different angles in the golf swing.

  • @plentyofouts
    @plentyofouts 4 роки тому

    If keeping the right arm bent coming down is linked to lag, how come Sergio Garcia widens the angle in his right arm and clearly doesn’t struggle with lag. You can widen the right arm without releasing wrist angles. Throwing wrist angles is the issue not right elbow and arm angles.

    This video is so wrong it's destructive to golfers. People cast the club because they are adding to much loft in their take away. It's functional to hit the ball. No reference to loft and people actually go for this. Nothing to do with impact. Old school positional nonsense. If you hold the angles you are referring to the ball would go way right. No reference to face to path. The pump drill? Again a terrible drill. No fact on dynamic loft delivery and nothing to back the technique up with data.

    • @maxsjostrom67
      @maxsjostrom67 4 роки тому

      Actually I disagree with you Darren. The point that people want to "hit the ball" is exatly the reason why people have early release -> They stop rotation and the hands hit the ball straight withouth the hands beeing in front of the ball and the loft angle correct for the ball, as Russel clearly shows on the video (early release posture). Pump drill is the greatest drill to make people understand the need for the hands to be in front of the ball and for the path...it will come naturally when you hold the release...I've seen pro's just watching people hack the ball hours and hours with their hands withouth any reference to body swing...so this pumping exersize is the so good...it also promotes the body swing instead of hitting the ball with your hands.
