I was a cast member in the summer of ‘94 (yes, I’m old) and babies at Disney World is miserable for everyone involved; parents, other guests, the employees- the babies themselves. Ridiculous.
As a former cast member, this is why I quit. Nobody who came into that park looked happy to be there and we were actively putting parents in debt day after day. It got sickening.
This is why, whenever I see that he has something to say, I download it and hear what he has to say, because in a lot of them that I have listened to, he does make quite a few salient points.
We were in Disney/Universal in November with my husband's family, which included 2 babies. We went and did our own thing, because we're child-free and still have some sanity left. When we were around these babies, though, they were either passed out and not experiencing anything or screaming/crying. I get that parents think it's cute to see their baby react to things, but it also doesn't make sense to lug them around when they don't even seem to be comprehending what's going on. It just all seems so stressful and unnecessary. Hell, one of the babies' parents left their kid with their grandparents so they could go on rides. I always see parents say that it doesn't matter since they'll remember everything for their babies, but that comes off as so selfish. Yes, drag your baby/toddler around in the Florida heat and overstimulate them so YOU can make memories... Thank God my husband and I both agree that if we have kids, they're waiting until they're at least 6 to go to these parks.
My wife and I have said the same thing forever. We had season passes too Disneyland, but never once did we take our kids when they were babies or toddlers. Like you said, they won't remember it and it ruins my time and everyone else's.
I was at Disney California last May, for the first few hours I was loving it. After waiting 90+ mins to get on a ride for the 3rd or 4th I was thoroughly fed up. I’m not in any rush to go back.
Even tho I never buy anything from the gift shops, I love looking at the souvenirs. With that being said, the gift shops are crammed slam packed with people and the strollers take up so much space
My family and I went to Disney last Spring, and it was absolutely stressful as hell. We opted to get the Genie+ fast lane thing for each day we were there, on top of park hopper. It was so stressful having to wake up at 5:45am to even have the CHANCE to reserve all of our fast lane entries, and then have to reserve wait times for rides late afternoon or even night. I will say for the less popular rides it was decent but that brings up the question of is paying the extra 30 dollars a person per park even worth it at that point. But in all reality I do not have much interest in Disney due to the crap they keep putting out, once Universal opens their new park with IPs that still put out good stuff I'll be switching. Hell Universal how it is now is still way more enjoyable. I cant even imagine families who do this with having babies in strollers that cant do anything but cry for being uncomfortable in that heat for 10 hours.
Bringing the Adam Rants back to the mainstream. Time is a flat circle and Rants were always meant to occur again. They will alway occur again and again as they always have. The place you visited is called Disney but it has always been carcosa.
Brought my son at 8 months (we were visiting family in LA), at 5 years old in 2021 (FL) and at 7 (CA)…he loved it and was an angel aside from one brief cry before ROTR. I, too, was exasperated because my in laws do 14 hour days there but it was only enhanced experiencing it all through his eyes :-)
I can’t even stand being in a shopping line behind or next to a screaming child. Children need to be gradually introduced to the public sphere. If they can’t handle being in a store or even a freakin museum, they are not ready for an amusement park. At least not until they have some semblance of self-control and self-awareness. I think 7-8 is a good age to bring your kids to Disney. Maybe at the end of 5th grade when they’re around 10-11.
uh we used to have unspoken rules like the ones you alluded to. but at a certain point parents became overly entitled about their kids and what they can do. combine that with society deciding that being inconsiderate of others is totally fine and you get a prefect storm scenario. it used to be common sense to not take babies/very young children to movies. and if you did, you understood that if they started crying and disturbing people, you would have to leave as to not ruin the movie for everyone else. it was called common decency. and unfortunately we simply don't have as much of that going around anymore
After a family tragedy we decided to take our 3 year old to Disney World to escape our sadness. Big mistake. Our son was too young to spend time there and honestly he would have been happier staying at the hotel watching cartoons.
"A 'magical' place where you can spend thousands of dollars to wait in line for a ride that is over 30 years old, on a property that is all but irrelevant." - Adam you just described dating from the male perspective.
My husband thinks it's because of maternity leave. If you go in the summer kids are in those strollers with plastic over them (in case it rains) baking and suffocating. It's madness, but we discuss it every time we go.
I’m just here for the comment section on this😂 Godzilla all over again- If the moms see this anyway- you’ll be destroyed 🫣😆 (but I do agree with everything you’re saying!!)💪
We need stroller free days at Disney, btw I went when I was 4 (old enough to walk) and I'm pretty sure it's where I gained consciousness, I remember almost everything
We all know Adam's Horror Stories about his movie going experiences. So why would the (Disney) amusement park scene be any different. Luckily Adam didn't kill anyone. This time. 😉😁
I haven't been to Disneyworld but it's pretty much the same at Disneyland. 😐 I don't understand why people love it so much. Way too expensive and crowded. The lines for rides take forever. rides keep breaking down. I could only enjoy it if it's a rainy day or something and way less ppl getting in the way. And I like some of the food...
I grew up going to Disney, and loved everything about it. So much so that this Minnesota boy would eventually work there (and Universal). Haven’t been back since everything closed down in 2020, but I know that things have largely been changing for the worse ☹️ and yeah, I largely agree that it’s bizarre when parents bring their babies (especially when they don’t have any other age appropriate kids)
I went to Disney as a child in its hey day back in the 80s and it was incredible. Genuinely magical. Admittedly I was a child so I didn’t have to deal with all the stresses my parents no doubt did, but for me it was amazing. However…. You couldn’t pay me to go now. It’s everything you have described. Hell on earth.
My parents took me to Disney Land/World (don’t know which because I was a baby) as a baby, and to this day, I tell people I’ve never been because I have no memory of it! Except maybe crying and being taken out. 😂☹️
If you look for travel deals + stay in an air bnb you might be able to go on a nice trip with your family to a different country , with the amount of money you spent on universal + Disneyworld.
If your child requires a stroller then they are too young to grasp or remember a something like Disney. The overstimulation is more likely to cause stress and fear in the child which helps explain all the screaming. Be a good parent and take you toddler to a city park near your home instead of torturing them on a 12 hour theme park day.
Hehe sorry Im one of those parents. I totally agree with you though. But the thing is we Asians. I had my kid under control. No crying or bitching the whole day. We brought a travel stroller that doesnt take up 2 LANES!. My experience was bit disappointing because we came for christmas and wanted to see disney world castle with the Dream Lights. We flew all the way from Malaysia to see lame ass 3d Projections on the castle. So much for the 100 year celebration
@@VintageScreenGoddess yup super disappointing but at least the rest of Disney world was nicely decorated for Christmas. Still enjoyed my time for the most part
Its not hard to imagine why, Disney offer kids under 3 free entry and food so its a no brainer for most parents but the more time i spend with my son spending 2 weeks in a theme park with him would drive me insane 😂😂 nothing wrong with getting the kids minded and you and your partner going off and having some fun together.
Gotta be honest with you-- I don't blame you for feeling as you do about rugrats at Disney or similar parks; this, also to be honest, would be along the lines of taking crying babies shopping at grocery stores and making them sit near to forever in shopping carts, while you take 1000 years of sweet time trying to determine, say, which brand of sugar would be the best for putting in a cake or something (grocery store shoppers don't need to hear it, and you don't need to have your ears assaulted by screaming babies any more either).
Yes totally make Disney more easily accessible for weirdo adults who want to relive their childhood instead of young kids, whom the whole thing was made for. Good idea.
Can we just agree that people should just stop having babies for like a few decades? Maybe shave that 8 billion people down to 6. I think we need a procreation offseason.
Ahhh Yeah, for Disney parks... babies are their business. In the future just take your kids to Cedar Point, Knott's Berry, or even Magic Mountain. Those are cool Parks and your kids are big enough for some of the rides. Sure you'll have to wait in long lines but at least it's won't be hell on earth. Happiest place on earth ... my ass!
Rants like this make me happy we didn't have things like the Disney Channel or money to spend on vacations. I went to Disney when I was 14 for a school choir trip. If I didn't have a girlfriend, it would have been a total hell. Fortunately, that was one day. I don't understand Disney hype, and it seems like that's probably for the best. $6k? 🤮
Hey remember, if you wanna bring kids to Disney, make sure they are far far too young to even understand what the place is/too young to actually even interact with the park, but also make sure they are extremely extremely extremely sickly, soo sickly in fact that they can't even be moved an inch without screaming in agony. If they charged full ticket prices for babies, it would change immediately. I agree with this. It's miserable.
