So helpful! I just purchased succulents that have been out in the strong sun but also now have been in cooler temps down to the 30s. I have a few that have unique brighter colors. It's interesting to learn about them.
Hello, How do I know if my succulents are in the doormat period. I live in South Florida USA. It’s always sunny and humid here. Please advise, and thank you for sharing your knowledge.
YOUR DESCRIPTION IS A GREAT HELP. HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO CHANGE OR ENRICH THE SOIL? WHAT KIND SOIL MIXTURE IS GOOD IN GENERAL, FOR ALL KINDS OF SUCCULENTS? THANKS.
ua-cam.com/video/HYqGDfHhD2g/v-deo.html I use this mix for all my succulents…to be honest I don’t add anything to my succulents apart from giving rain water during monsoon or some pond water ……if you want u can add sea weed solution one a month during growing period
that’s a tricky part for them but it all depends on the succulents as they call succulents opportunistic growers …but I felt they do much better during monsoon I haven’t seen them go into dormancy during monsoon…but need to protect them from getting wet constantly…
I have quit buying plants on line almost altogether. I've been disappointed 100% of the time. The only way I buy them on line is if I really want a particular succulent/ cactus and cannot find them locally. Even then, I was disappointed. I didn't get what I wanted.
Oh no ….that’s really sad…..I usually buy online as I have nothing local….but I always stick to one seller luckily they always have what I need ….but yea at times transit takes a toll on them 😞

Thank you so much for watching ☺️……absolutely you can stress but my suggestion …do it in winters direct sunlight until 11 am will good enough. Don’t dehydrate the succulent but reduce the watering…fine line between underwatering and watering to get the stress colour ☺️

I live in Singapore where it is almost hot throughout the year. How do I know my succulents are in dormancy? Also, since we are no lacking of sunlight, can I just stress my succulents by giving less water?
yes mam you and me have a very similar climate …as far as I feel coz we are in an tropical environment the dormancy is not very evident …at times few of my succulents that are suppose to be dormant will suddenly bloom ….so we don’t experience a very strict dormancy unless the temperatures rise above 48 degrees Celsius… and the second thing is less watering without sunlight won’t give much colour either ….. sun is the reason why succulents get colour or any form of strong light ( grow lights ) …however with less water there will get very minimal colour but then it will start to have wrinkles on the leaves 🙁
this is the biggest issue to be honest in India succulents don’t follow a strict dormancy and non dormancy period because the climate is so unpredictable...last year none of my succulents stressed cause it was raining until dec ...I have even noticed some of my echeveria bloomed during dormant period aswell. but ideally speaking summer dormancy is || summer dormant succulents meaning winter growers || dormant - ( May - Aug ) | growing period - ( sept. - April ) || winter dormant succulents meaning summer growers || dormant - ( Nov - Feb ) | growing period - ( March - October ) this will give you a fair idea
For me it will be fine if what I order on line is not as exactly in the picture. What I cannot stand is the thought that too long in transit and seller cannot be found and when received the plants is totally dead and soaking wet😢
mam at times I use regular red soil on top depending on how quick the soil dries at times some pots the soil dries in just 1 day …so to let the succulent have some time to drink water I put some red soil on top only in few pots that’s all I avoid top dressing or top soil for most pots especially the one where they don’t receive direct sun … If you have good amount of soil in potting mix avoid top dressing Cause our weather is tropical so top dressing is not very ideal
sempervivum is very delicate succulent for Indian climate …I wouldn’t recommend to stress sempervivum…I would let it stress naturally ….morning sunlight should be enough to naturally stress it 😊🪴
Hi In which season is your city temperature 34-38 degrees during summer or generally.....if it’s generally then in your case I would suggest don’t stress succulents by yourself ....let it happen naturally....when they go dormant they will automatically get the colour ......but if you try to stress succulents by yourself there is a high risk your succulents might get burnt as u said ur temperature is around 34-38 so then let them get the colour naturally......if u receive morning sunlight then first acclimate your succulents and then provide direct morning sunlight .

Hi, can we still stress "summer dormant" succulents to bring out red colors during the summer by giving them strong light but at a lower temperature (maybe by a south-facing window) or even LED light, and less water?
Yes every succulent can be stressed be it dormant or not ...but the disadvantage of stressing a succulent in growing period is one it will hamper the growth cycle ....growth rate will be very slow and then when it hits dormancy the growth will be further reduced so it's up to you ...my advice will be let it grow well during growing season and stress then during dormant period with this you will have healthy succulent :) yes more light less water not fertilizer will get the intense color

@@LushGardener Thank you for your reply. So, the red pigment is released to protect the plant itself during dormancy. Do you think if we stress the succulent during its active growth stage, we would need to give it MORE stress than the stress we would need to give them during dormancy?
maybe its due to excess sunlight offer only till 11 am direct after that indirect ...i hope its crassula campfire and not red pagoda ...red pagoda at times shows maroon colour
