- I came across an old Sony camera that was just about to turn 10 years old, and I'd like to test it to its abilities and see if we can get results out of it that'll make it acceptable to use in this HD/4K era.
(I'd like to mention someone (by the name of Tony Lee Glenn) also took a 10-Year-Old Sony camera and did similar tests with it. It may sound like I ripped them off, but I didn't know about this video until I already rendered this video. So go check out that video here: • Is Your Old Camera Goo... )

For some of my older videos, I used a camera that my parents used to film me as a baby. This camera was at least from 2004. It didn't even output to mp4 (which might not have existed at the time).

For a 2009 camera its not bad at all.
And also the 480p is great too.
My handy cam also has 60 x optical zoom

my hi8 canon g1000 camcorder has 500x extra long digital zoom
Back then cheaper end cameras had 30x, 60x etc. optical zoom. Higher end cameras usually had 10x optical zoom.
I used my 60x optical zoom and some digital zoom to film moon.
I personally have a very special place In my heart for old cameras like this
Thanks for the video. I purchased this camera new ten years ago. I dropped it last week and killed it. I just got off Ebay and bought a used one, camera only, for less than 60 bucks. I use this camera for all my youtube videos. This camera give you the ability to give your friends a copy of that cool video before you split up and head home.
I have a HandyCam and got it new in around 2008 or 2009 and the camera worked like it should and I made many videos at the time using it and put it on the shelf after a year of using it. I finally took it back out and plan on using it again since it's quality is great.
Record a entire video only using that camera
i like their retro feel and use them to transfer my old DV tapes to my pc. Very delicate machinery-use care, treat delicately.
My first camcorder was the Sony HDR-CX100 I still actually still use it till this day because of how great it is I think color reproduction on my camcorder is fine but usually canon has better reproduction but Sony has better auto focus then canon iPhones you really need alot of lighting to even get decent color reproduction personally I would go with Sony not the camcorder in the video tho
My first one was the sony FDR-AX53. I really only wanted it because it had decent night vision. And I wanted to make life a horror game.

The memory card it uses is the despised memory card pro duo which was also used in the PSVita
People absolutely hated this proprietary format since it was a lot more expensive than SD cards, eventually Sony buckled in and made miniSD and microSD adapters for it.

Found a relatively new 610 this weekend. It was leftovers from a garage sale. Let me pick from the leftovers and this Cam with a few batts and a charger. Still works great, zooms great.
what's the difference between the 610 and the 650? I have a 610 and it looks similar but the 650 is 3 year newer
@@jdomingo91 I dunno homey, the 610 I scored didn't have a Instruction manual. The channel "Ians Tech" walked me through it to get started. Perhaps he can help you with your question, I'm sure the comparison between the 610 and 650 are nite and day tho. New tech is old next year

mpg/mpeg compression is still widely used today, mpeg-4 is typically shortened as mp4. mpeg-1 is the compression used on VCDs while mpeg-2 is the compression used on DVDs.

Watching this video in 60 fps you can tell that the Canon camera had the least smooth motion capture of all of them. Objects got super blurry as they moved. The iphone and sony cameras didn't have that problem so objects in motion were much more clear to see.

Found my Carl Zeiss in my moms closet lol. will definetly be using this on vacations for the vintage feel, but question, when exporting videos from the camera did you use the actual sony blank CD or did regular blanks work as well?
Looks like the old Sony has less motion blur which is why I'm getting one for a racing event.

I say do both: use what you have on hand, the SONY DVD and learn to appreciate what it is, and THEN get a newer one or even a new. Having used the older one you might more appreciate the step up. Thank you!

Hey what`s up Daniel I have the SONY Handyman 650 I don`t use it as much and I need to get a new memory-stick. It has`nt been touch since 2016 and here it`s 2020 bout to be 2021 and I`m pretty sure still works.

I currently have a similar camcorder (a 2008 Sony Handycam DCR-SR45) and the videos recorded by it aren't the best, but (in my opinion) they look pretty decent, although the videos have a bit of visual noise sometimes. My camcorder also records in 480p, and I've transferred videos from it to my computer before, and I've watched UA-cam videos in 480p before, and in my personal opinion, 480p is pretty decent video resolution. Obviously not the best by today's standards, but pretty ok. In my opinion, it doesn't look that much different from 720p (unless I were a snob with a microscope)
Regarding the DVD650: What Quality setting did you try it with and did you also test with Mini DVDs?

I have one that belogns to My mother, i belive she got it back in 1999 or somewhere around 2000-2003 and i it looks very diferente from the ones i see on UA-cam :c it's the same brand (soni) and also a handycam, i just beginning to learn about camaras soo if anyone knows something :3 pls tell me :D (also ir says carl Zeiss idk if it matters tho :c)

I have that camera. I use it for some of my videos.
I used one of these. The mini DVD was recorder was rubbish. All of the videos came with background noise of the motor spinning the disc round.
We're so early that the video is 240p

I need help with some questions...1: What happen's if your battery runs out of power while you are in the middle of filming? Do you lose your footage or is it still there while you are charged again? 2: If you were filming for say 3 minutes and needed to stop for a few hours...Do you need to finalise the disc first to save your footage or can you continue recording from where you left off once you restart the camera? 3: Has anyone used non Sony mini DVD's to record with? Were they successful? Sony DVD's are no longer available in my country but there are TDK mini's or Prodisc Mini's that I could get. Thank you for looking at my 3 questions :) I am hoping to buy this type of camera

I have a flip phone from around 2003 which can take HD photos and it can take video, but only 174x144
Most likely the phone is a few years newer than 2003. Back in 2003 phone cameras were still a really new thing. And they were 0.3mp 640x480 for pictures and 174x144 for video, some didn't even record video at all. 144p video was common on cheaper phones up to 2010 or so

Might be a really dumb question but, does this camera record individual videos or is it similar to VHS camera where it records/plays back as a singular long video?
Depends on the mode you're using, of you're using DVD-Rs then after finalising, it will play as a single long video
If you're using DVD-RWs then there's a mode where you can use it like a flash storage device and have seperate videos
