  • In this second part of my second Greg Souders interview, we take Greg's rationale for his use of language and demonstrate how it can be used to take the same games and help learners of all skill levels get something out of it even without scaling the constraints down or up.
Of course, we highly recommend you engage in task simplification and complexification, too, which we discuss in more practical detail in part 3, released soon.

You're so right in that Greg's content is a master class in game design and establishing a framework to operate in.

Greg is awesome and legitimately cares about presenting what he’s found in his gym for anyone who’s interested in learning. I’ve reached out to him a few times and have been blown away with his responsiveness and depth of information he’s willing to share with no strings attached.

Absolutely man. He might say things you don't like but he's exceptionally generous with his time.

    I’m on board.
I’m noticing people that don’t stop and wrap their head around the science of motor learning have a tendency to misinterpret what we’re doing as situational sparring. It totally misses the mark.
I’m actually finding it pretty rough being one of the only people in my locus that is actually acknowledging the importance of science and language, in both the camps of coaching and learning.
I find myself getting frustrated with the easily misunderstood and overlooked science . It’s intellectual laziness and complete irresponsibility to not understand how people learn motor skills, specifically if your job is guiding the self organization

"game of immobilization as it leads to strangulation and breaking" is at the same time less concise and less precise than "control that leads to submission"

What does summation mean to someone who has never participated or viewed any combat sport? Control to what extent?

At what point does one have enough control that leads to submission?

I know jiujitsu is mostly dumb Meatheads that think Joe Rogan is smart, but read a book. What they are talking about is the science of how people learn. The pseudoscience is the old way of doing shit. 10k reps to mastery and all that trash. They outlined how to build games appropriate to your room which is a lot better. But jiujitsu is also full of authority sniffing suck ups that need to be told exactly what to do.

Lmao ❤ this is hilarious and exactly what I’m seeing from the people who don’t want to understand how people learn motor skills. It isn’t pseudo science at all. It’s actual science. And a better framework than any traditional class( which has no framework of science that it’s based on)

I would love to see some examples of this approach being used for striking. How you would design safe, age and level appropriate games for like boxing, or MMA. BJJ does not seem "easy" to do it for, but it seems more straight forward to create safe games for because BJJ seems pretty safe to train compared to strike sparring. Id love to see some knowledgable people run through how they adapt to striking for ecological approach if possible ;).
