I have very vivid memories of that stage! Crash man was intimidating because it took so much effort to reach him as a nine year old. So fights against him tended to be brief since I'd used most of my lives and time by then.
When I played this at the age of 5... this was the hardest portion of Mega Man 2 - including Crash Man. But at that age, I unfortunately didn't have the internet or friends to tell me how easy it was to beat Crash Man. *Sigh* The old days of gaming were so much better and more fun.
This game is an absolutely flawless masterpiece. I feel so lucky to have experienced its U.S. release in 1988. To this day, it has never failed to wow me. Thank you Capcom and Nintendo!
Actually, Crash Man makes for a reasonable starting point, if you think about it. And the fight with him is easy enough. He's one of the few where the Mega Buster does okay on its own.
Part of this theme music sounds like the Million Valley stage from the Capcom arcade racing game _Led Storm_ (_Mad Gear_ in Japan) which was also released in the 1988-89 time frame.
Poor Crash Man, his design is actually my favorite out of the 8 robot masters, but I wish his pattern wasn't as easy to predict as this one. Also, what you say about Crash Bombs is true, it should've been at least a 14 shots weapon :/

The only thibg that bothers me of freshman stage is the level design. You are constantly ascending like Elecman, but this level had more of a frustration with the birds while in Elecman you just had to avoid the electrical discharges most of the time.

Maybe ClashMan is weak to air because he's in space which is a zero pressure environment if you release air into empty space it will explode immediately

the robot boss is always easy with the right weapon, its those stupid respawning spinny things that hit you on a ladder that makes this so hard. luckily the music is epic!! :P

I have to say, I hate this stage. I hate this theme. Maybe it's because I'm stuck forever on the third floating platform screen, never making it past with enough health to pass the birds, never running out of health as long as I don't pass the screen with the platforms, getting knocked off the platforms over and over again, the song never stops Dut-dut-Duuduuu....ing for all eternity. I have seen and testify, hell is real.
Crashman and Quickman are my favourite bosses of all mgamas, idk why. Crashman cus of the epic music, quickman cus.... idk I hated the fact that there is a boss in willy's castle that needs u to have full ammo of crash bomber to defeat him.... them.... whatever.

Maybe that's why he's called Crash Man...the "And Burn" was too long to fit on the stage select screen.
