    Would you be able to make a video about montessori at home for smaller homes? I have a 2.5 year old and currently expecting my second and we've been following the montessori method as best we can. The issue I have now is lack of space as we're in a two bedroom apartment in London, UK which is quite smaller than a typical two bed American apartment haha. I'd really appreciate it!

    Do you think Kylie is close to growing out of any of these items, Eg the glasses? What do you plan on doing when she does? Letting her use yours or getting a kind of inbetween size. And then would you store them here and help Mia understand that she and Kylie each have their own or keep them separate to avoid any confusion/jealousy.
    I'm always interested to see how different parents handle the challenges that come with having kids close in age😊

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori 3 роки тому +3

      Hard to tell which size she has there, but the 3-6 age class often uses the 9 oz glasses (looks to be that one in Ashley's video). For most kiddos it was plenty, and for those who want more, it is a wonderful chance for pouring practice!

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori 3 роки тому +1

      @@josie9583 Ah good catch! My infant daughter already drinks a lot as well, so I'm definitely looking straight into the 9 oz once she masters the open cup and outgrows her shot glasses. Good to know they don't look too different, wouldn't be much of a difference in holding then! Saved me a trip to IKEA to compare 😀

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori 3 роки тому

      @@josie9583 I dont think she has the Ikea glasses, but they're similar to the bormiolli roco from what I see. We have their shot glasses but I'm planning to go with the Ikea ones for the larger size :)
      Sorry didn't mean for this simple question to get so confusing!

    • @HapaFamily
      @HapaFamily  3 роки тому +5

      We use the 6 oz Bormioli Rocco glasses for both girls, and it seems to be a great size still even for Kylie. There are some times that she will need to refill it, but usually the one glass is enough. :) As she gets bigger and we move up to a bigger size, I imagine I’ll probably just have both available and allow Mia to use whichever size she prefers. Hope that helps! ❤️

  • @MariaandMontessori

    Beautiful revamp! Kylie and Mia must be so excited! We have the opposite problem-not enough space even for our own items, and we are in the stage where she will need her own shelf (or cabinet lol) any moment now 🙃
    Is Kylie showing interest in folding yet? Always amazed me how concentrated and intentional the 3-6 age class was in folding their napkins just right. I really need to practice that skill soon too

    • @marie-louiseweerheim4224
      @marie-louiseweerheim4224 3 роки тому +1

      Our child has only half a cabinet with her plates, bowl, cups and cutlery. Other items she just has to get from the place they are stored. I use a shelf divider to create more space.

    • @HapaFamily
      @HapaFamily  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, she is! And she’s also been very into “refolding” her clothes the way SHE wants them at bedtime (like after we’ve gotten the PJs and brought them to the bathroom for after the bath), she will sit on the floor and re-fold them “just right” before laying them out to be ready. ☺️

    I've always wanted to do this kind of stuff with my tot but my concern is somehow she's a bit scared at times to be alone or walk without me although she's been very helpful. Like feeding the dogs, giving them water, preparing her meal, our meal, all of those stuff except, she'd always clinging into my neck and won't let go. I appreciate it that much but I really wanted her to teach independency so I think I'm just gonna hope and wait. But what can you suggest? Should I still set it up and try and hope that one day she'll do it on her own?

    I have a serious question, my toddler son has always loved throwing things and I have a very hard time teaching him that certain items aren’t for throwing. I usually try to redirect him or have to completely separate him from the item but in situations like eating how do I teach him that the bowls, glasses, plates etc, aren’t for throwing?

    • @makemeyourpriority

      @csmsantos100 3 роки тому

      This is exactly what we are going through right now with our toddler too!! As much as it's soo frustrating at times, we just have to be patient and continue redirecting them. We bought bean bags and balls that we bring him too when he throws something and let him know that these are the only things we allow to be thrown in the house. Hope this helps!

    • @mkabs19
      @mkabs19 3 роки тому +3

      My son went through this for a longgg time! The trajectory schema. He is just now starting to understand that certain things are not for throwing at 19 months. Every child is different though and some children grasp these concepts earlier and others like to break a bunch of things first🤦‍♀️. Consistently is key

    • @vineetamendiratta5121
      @vineetamendiratta5121 3 роки тому +1

      That's ok. Let him throw it, when he sees it breaks, then he will not throw or it's just a stage

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori 3 роки тому +4

      Very developmentally appropriate! Would be more concerning if he wasn't! As others have mentioned, it will take a lot of consistency, perseverance, and patience on your end but just keep redirecting him in a calm manner. They need to learn natural consequences-if I drop the glass, it will shatter and I will have no water to drink AND I will need to clean it up. Not as a punishment, but simply as the natural progression of what happens when we throw things.
      Seems you know exactly what to do-just remember that it does take time but they DO get there eventually.

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori 3 роки тому +7

      In her vlogs, you can see Kylie and Mia are really good about not doing that (at least from what we see :) ). It may definitely happen and there's 2 ways you can go about it. 1 is to explain each time why we should be careful with water-it costs money, it is wasteful to let it drip, etc. Then involve your child in the clean up-not as a punishment, but as an opportunity to learn that the natural consequence of making a mess is to clean it up. Make sure to phrase it that way. Something along the lines of "seems you spilled some water here. Let's get a rag and wipe that up now so the floor is clean and nobody slips". You may need to be consistent with it for a while, but children are very malleable and will learn.
      If you feel your child is not yet at this stage, prepare a pitcher of water for them to use instead. If you want to be very conservative, it may be the small pitcher with just 1 serving of water. And that is their water for that meal/snack time, and so they need to be very careful with it. Again, explain this to your child and if spills happen, repeat the cleanup process.
      Children are naturally curious and want to see cause and effect, but they are not mischievous for the sole purpose of causing trouble. It is work on our end, but if we really prepare the environment properly, our children can and will be successful :)

    • @HapaFamily
      @HapaFamily  3 роки тому +2

      Maria has nailed the response before I had a chance to reply! (Thanks, mama! 😜) But no, my girls don’t play with the water at all. Kylie never did, and Mia only did for a very short time when she first was tall enough to reach it - and even then, it was just novel and exciting to have the ability and independence to do it, she was just playing with cause and effect (“Oh wow, when I pull this knob, water comes out!”). But she’s been over it for a while and she’s actually getting very good at filling her cup without any overspill, and being sure to have the cup under the spout before she turns it on.
