    Some interesting things about Saamaveda: The samaveda has very little of its own text and majority of the text in samaveda comes from Rigveda. Samaveda was developed/seen by rishis to sing the rik's of Rigveda. The swaras of the saama-gaana are not the swaraas of classical music. If I recall it, there are 6 swaras identified to sing saama. From which eventually the saptaswaras and sangeeta shaastra would evolve. Traditionally the vidyaarthi of samaveda would first learn rigveda and by the end of the rigvedic study one would be eligible to study and practise saama-gaana. There were more than 1000 branches of samaveda as per ancient scriptures, but today very few (more like 4-5) known branches of saamaveda can be found. Kauthuma, Ranananiya and etc.
    Also, saamaveda contains two of the most important upanishads, chaandogya and kena or talavakaara upanishad where parabrahma is the subject matter of discussion.
    LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST: Bhagavaan Krishna in Bhagavad Geeta says, he is like saamaveda among vedas which tells us how important saamagaana and music is in the Indic thought.
    Thank you for reading this. :)

      There are 7 swaras in Sama Veda actually. However they're not the same as seven swaras of classical music.

    Most people are not aware that Indian Classical Music is originally known as Bharatiya Shastriya Sangeet.
    But a lot of people have misconception that it is from Muslims since a lot of popular names are Khan Saabs and all.

    Putting my understanding forward, music makes repetition enjoyable. To explain it properly, when you are in Bhakti yoga you are bound to take lord’s name everyday and possibly every conscious moment like while bathing, eating, walking, and even before sleeping. Now, when you are reciting the same name the whole day you are bound to get bored. MUSIC JUST PREVENT YOU FROM GETTING BORED OF THIS GODLINESS. That’s all
    Jay Shree Krishna !

    • @devanshxvii
      @devanshxvii 8 місяців тому +1

      Correction: A bhakt reciting His name ever remains in bliss. However, if you happen to find yourself getting bored, you are yet to become a 'bhakt', you have to stop being the slave of materialism. Henceforth, the spirit yearns only union with the Lord.

      Completely agree- need an expert to come on the podcast to talk about the depths of indian classical music and raags and how these raags are not just melodic frameworks but are living entitites that live and breath and were believed to be given to us by God! These were defined by our sages, centuries ago, with the primary goal to express a mood or emotion through the language of music. saadhna is beyond riyaaz done to train your throat, but is the journey a musician takes on with a raag and builds a relationship with it to get to know the depths of this entity called raag, until it reveals its mood and flows through the musicians voice/instrument. And this raag music has its roots in the samveda! Some of these raags are so powerful that they have healing properties for, anxiety and insomnia. Only a stalwart in indian classical music who has studied the depths of the vedas can explain the complexities of this music form that is so deep and meditative and transformative. Kishori Amonkar wrote a book on the rasa theory of classical music after studying the vedas, called swaranobhooti and maybe one of her students can speak to this art

    Kya hai yaar, kuch bhi matlab logo ko saari cheezo ke baare me baat karni hai yaar matlab kuch bhi. Unko lagta hai ki unko sab kuch malum hai aur aa ke baat karne lagte hai kisi bhi topic pe. Mera intention kisi ko bura ya bewakoof batane ka nahi hai par yaar Zara ek baar sache dil se soch ke dekhna kya tumare andar Zara si bhi wo kshamta hai jo aap ved pe baat kar sako. Yaar ved ek bahot purana aur bahot rahsymay book , book nahi kehna chahiye par samjane ke liye bol raha hu. Ved ko mahan gyani ( enlightened ) sadhu aur Rishi bhi nahi jaan paate the, Rishiyo me bhi kuch kuch hote the jo purn ved ke gyata hote the. Aur aaj ke Time pe to real ved hoga hi nahi naa. Sab Mila huva bana banaya hai. Isliye yaar aap business pe aur baki topics pe baat karo. Koy problem nahi hai par yaar spirituality aaj ke time pe jo ek shabd ban kar reh gay hai wo itni chhoti cheez nahi hai jo har koy baat kar raha hai uski. Agar ye itna common hota to ( enlightened beings ) ye bolne me bhi accha nahi lag raha hai kyunki English me spirituality match hi nahi hoti. Ye Satya sanaatan sanakruti aur iski sab cheeze bahot deep aur rahsyamay hai. 🙏🏻
