@@kristapskalinka2602 i agree. It sounds like basic heavy metal. Overkill is at their best as a thrash metal band imo. This sounds like most of the 'groove" metal that thrash bands were doing in the 90s. To varying degrees of success. Exodus did it correctly with Force of Habit while this album is an example of a less well done groove album.

To be honest when i bought this album ii felt strange when i hear it for first time...i wouldn't expect something so strange from Overkill especially after the masterpiece HORRORSCOPE...after years when i grew up i understand an apreciated much more and understand the vision of this release...

You are correct on all but one count. This is not a thrash album. It is a groove influenced heavy metal album.

Back in the day this record was poorly rated, due to fact, that Overkill with it had taken little step out of classical thrash. But the truth is that Overkill was always a little "visionary", like with "I hear Black" (groove/stone metal), Killing Kind (thrash & hardcore) or little techno-thrash "From The Underground And Below".

Overkill's Stoner Metal album...? Ppl say it's their mainstream or The Black Album attempt, but i hear a much more Black Sabbath and Southern Stoner Metal influence than anything else. Definitely a lot of groove too

That's the first full album from Overkill I heard (together with W.F.O.). Love it to the hell and back!

I understand why! That singer is awful!
I think it was because they changed their style to more doom metal and it was not well received. Hence the $2 bin pricing.

@@vladvampirelord8910 It's not so much the high pitch screeching, I am a big fan of Crisix, I'm just not a fan of this guy's voice I guess. I remember liking Fabulous Disaster (edit- just realized I was confusing Exodus, smoke another one! lol) album back in the late 80s and early 90s, but don't remember it sounding anything like this one. Will have to check out some of their other stuff, because they are huge influence on most of the bands I listen to, but I never gave them a lot of attention before.

Funny thing, if this album never came out, and Tool recorded it, with pretty much the only thing being different would be the vocals, an it was released in 2020 instead of their latest album, it would be considered (public rock opinion) one of the greatest Metal masterpieces of all time and Tool went full "metal."

I highly doubt that Soundgarden were influenced by Overkill - they were heavily influenced by Sabbath and Zeppelin with a little Metallica and a good amount of punk rock added to the mix.
@@thrashgod1189 of course, what's actually happening is that grunge rock and groove metal were contemporary movements and influenced each other back and forth. overkill were probably hearing grunge rock on the radio when making this album, and soundgarden being metalheads would've been exposed to pantera, machine head, exhorder etc. the result being two similar sounding albums that didnt directly influence each other. overkill, pantera and soundgarden all worked with the same producer at one time or another (terry date)

Their first faux-pas imo. The album is not bad but you can tell the band is looking for a new identity, it sounds like they're trying to sound like Pantera, Metallica (the black album), COC...etc
