      Hey bud glad you are building your ls! I very sternly recommend NOT installing the arp rod bolts. 1) the big end will NOT be round 2) the factory bolts aren’t a weak point. You’ll probably bend the rod before they let out.
      I bought some for my stock block and even asked about it on yellow bullet. Turned around and returned them.

    • @th600mike3
      @th600mike3 2 роки тому +2

      Even though you put them in, you can take them out still. Better than spinning a bearing… and the rods are cracked cap, so you can’t machine them basically

    Just put mine in the garage. Build season has begun. Hey that oil pump needs centered before tightening. Have to use feeler guages or there is a tool made for doing that. The pump gear will eat the pump housing. Always enjoy watching. Quite the family everyone helping each other.

  • @markshaw3219
    @markshaw3219 2 роки тому +2

    Tommy, someone may have already told you this but I was told when putting the oil pump on an LS that the pump itself needed to be "lashed" to the snout of the crank. I took the cover off of the pump and placed two .002 filler gages on the opposite sides from one another to get the proper center. There are several FB videos to help with the process. Funny, I did the same thing when I put the camshaft/top timing gear in my LS build as you and Billy did. I forgot to put the cam retainer plate on. This is a big "oops" due to the fact that not only does the plate keep the cam from walking forward but it also seals up the upper oil passage. If one forgets to put the plate on and starts the engine, there will be little to no oil pressure. NOT GOOD! Several of my friends who have built numerous gen 1, gen 2 Small Block Chevys, and other older engine designs have made this mistake out of habit. This is why these same friends of mine told me to pay attention when I built my LS setup. They are the same in some ways but also have some critical differences. Keep it up!! God's Blessings!! Acts 20:24

    LOL! That Dart is anything but slow!! The look on her face when she got back was priceless!! Good job Alison!! Reminded me of when I gave my Mom a ride in my 71 Chevelle, she was ok until it barked 2nd gear and it sat her back in the seat!! Oh the memories!! Good editing Tommy! You're awesome! I love old mopars! My dad was a technician at westside dodge in Columbus (was later called trader buds dodge for years after that) but when I was a kid he had a 67? Or 68 real factory pro stock hemi dart . With the seat belt strap for the windows and all of that lol I loved that car and was just always amazed by it and remember going to the track and watching him race it ect so even though I have mostly had Camaros and Corvettes and have built a few of each now I have always been a mopar fan deep down..I've never been able to find the right one for me as of yet but I will find either a dart or duster to build an have fun with at some point! I love watching what you guys are doing with the dart and hope all the best for you and your whole family!
    And note: ive done probably 2 dozen or so cam swaps in various ls based engines and the slop in the timing chain is very common and even though it makes you feel like it is a possible problem it's never caused any sort of problem for me or my experience with them if that helps at all lol ive never had timing jumping around or anything like that and that's what I was worried about with the looseness of the chain but never had any issues...hope this helps you feel atleast a bit better lol

    Tommy just a heads up ..if you replace the rod bolts with aftermarket and they're a press in rod bolt you will definitely need to resize the rods because when pressed into the rod it distorts the rod and will cause tight bearings. And junk a bottom end quickly

    Tommy I agree with you on assuming branding/logos should be installed in a way that it can be seen! I'm 24 and no mechanic but when I was S400 swapping my cummins with the new 2nd gen manifold I installed the manifold upside down because the logo was on "top" and didn't realize it was wrong until my charge pipe met the shock tower. Had to unbolt everything from the head again just to flip the manifold the proper direction, made me wish I had a Billy to tell me haha!

    Love this cause I’m building a 5.3 I’m wanting to stroke it out to 383 but I haven’t made my mind up between a forged 5.3 or a fully built 383. Also your transitions are so clean 🤙🏽

    Might want to look into the 3 shim method for the oil pump.
    Helps center up the pump on the crank, so that it lives longer and keeps pressure and volume longer.

    Tommy I was going to say before you said anything you either got a wide angled lens or new Camera so funny. Crazy how we notice such small differences in video. Looks great keep it up

    Hey Tommy, you didn't center your oil pump gear when you installed the pump or you edited it out, not sure .

    Whatever they use to clean pistons probably does more for piling grit in the ring lands than anything that would help otherwise. At least if it comes off while the engine is running it won't be all at once and dry as well. They probably think a cylinder isn't broke in unless it's polished too.

    Did not see you shim the oil pump, I understand it is fairly critical to pump surviving long term. Watch powernation when they rebuild a junkyard 5.3...good show...btw, you are young and I think your content is pretty damn good!
