- On a recent flight, I ended up coming home at dusk. It was very pretty. I got a nice light show from nature and humans. I think they're both fun to look at.

Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Fun flight. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Spectacular sunset. I totally can relate to not seeing how beautiful things are in the moment when flying, I get locked in on task and sometimes only realize it when someone else in the plane comments on it.
Yep. Me too.
Beautiful flight. I'm still jealous of your landing lights.
For a mere $300 you too can have light that blind the tower!
And thank you!
The funny thing about this is that I didn't even notice it while I was flying. I was focused on getting home since I'd been stuck at RUQ for a little bit. It was only when I reviewed the video that I saw it.
Absolutely beautiful
Agree!
Nice video and fun flight.
Thanks! Oddly enough I didn't notice how beautiful it was when flying it. I was basically focused on getting home.
Beautiful view. I'm hoping to do a sunrise flight this weekend, here's hoping it looks anything like this
Looking forward to seeing it!
@@1dullgeek well, given that I've been editing my first solo video for 5 months, you might be waiting a while 😂
@@cheapskateaviation Yeah I know that feeling. I've been working on my IFR #2 video for months. Can't seem to construct anything that I like.
5 seconds in and I love it. So pretty. How long were you delayed?
7:37 what button did you press? It was like taking tower off mute.
9:20 "let's do our checklist _this time_". yep!
15:25 tower just paints a vivid picture of what happened.
natural light show wins on this one.
It was about a 1 hour delay.
I have two different problems with my radios. My com1 radio (a Narco MK12D+) makes a hum that drives tower crazy, but sounds good to me. For that reason I don't like to transmit on com1. My com2 radio (a Bendix/King KX 125) has that weird choppy sound for transmissions that I receive, but I have never heard tower complain about my transmissions on that radio. So that's the one I prefer to transmit on. Oddly enough com2 is consistently really bad near JQF. Everywhere else that sound is present, but much much quieter. Just at JQF it's can be difficult to hear incoming transmissions.
So what I did at 7:37 was tuned my com1 radio - the one that sounds good to me - to tower and then I turned on com1 monitoring on my audio panel. It only sounded louder because the volume knob on com2 was up higher. That's the radio I tend to use to listen to distant AWOS/ATIS, so I tend to turn the volume up on that radio.
But I didn't know what would happen if com2 was also listening to the freq that com1 was transmitting on, so when I was transmitting, I turned off com1 monitoring then transmitted on com2.
I talked to an avionics shop about it and they were convinced it was coming from the alternator. So I switched the alternator filter, but that didn't fix it. I've got my 2-year transponder check scheduled with a different avionics shop in early December. I'm going to ask them what it could be. My guess is it's something in the com2 radio itself.
@@1dullgeek ugh, yeah. the filter would make sense, or a radio ground, or a radio. maybe the avionics shop has a radio they can loan you or can do some bench testing. Make sure to tell me how that appt goes!
@@flysport_tedder Update: the p-lead to my magneto has metallic shielding around it that is separated out from the p-lead and then attached to the magneto. The purpose of it is to address noise created by the magneto. During a recent oil change I noticed that the connection of the shielding to the magneto was seriously worn down and barely hanging on. Such that when I examined it, I severed it completely.
Repairing that seems to have significantly reduced the chirping sound on Com2. So much so that I have to try to listen for it in my recordings. I'm hoping this is finally fixed. Of course, I've though that before too. So time will tell.
Cool video I love sunset flights. I’m trying to figure out the settings on my gopro to do more night flights, right now I get a lot of vibration
What's funny is that I find myself more focused on flying and rarely notice the scenery when I'm flying. It's only later that I see it in the video.
As far as camera stuff goes the source video is a little shakey and blurry. And when it's fully night I can't capture very much at all that's usable. I don't think the image stabilization in my camera knows what to do with night time, sparsely lit scenes. The fact that I captured this at all is pretty lucky.
Yea I have to force myself to take time and enjoy the scenery. I noticed how focused I was on flying on the return trip from my check ride, it was like everything was so much prettier. That’s what I thought on my cameras but I know there is a setting that can be changed cause I see too many videos of night flights that are perfect.
And I'm pretty sure the tower upgraded you to an Archer 😁
Yep. They do that a lot.
They upgraded me to a cirrus once too:
ua-cam.com/video/FLHWzWrwerQ/v-deo.html
@@1dullgeek I think I remember that one. Should have stuck with that, that's a better upgrade 😁
I wonder what that runway incursion was all about
I never found out. Although there is a cirrus sitting in a tiedown spot that has some very unhappy looking nose gear. Best guess: cirrus had some misfortune on landing.
Did you ever find out what happen?
No.
How's the instrument training coming?
Completed. But making a video to document it is a lot harder than I thought it would be.
I've resorted to doing a voiceover about things I wish I'd have done differently with hindsight. I hope to get that out in the next week.
@@1dullgeek Congrats!
