Unless it's an armor piercing round. Mild steel core ammo was done for one reason cost effectiveness. Same with steel bullet jackets. It's all about cost

My 1946 dated Turkish 8mm does have a steel core wrapped in lead. The 1940 stuff I shot before was straight lead cored though. It would be interesting if we could figure out exactly when they switched to the cheaper mild steel core.
