Here's a funny story for you! When I was 16 I was very much into Nightwish and wanted (like many other girls impressed by Tarja's voice) to learn how to sing opera. So when I went to my first class with my future singing teacher, Emma Sarkisyan, I sang a fragment from "Sleeping Sun". She listened to it patiently and then said: "You have a good voice, we can work with that, but isn't it some kind of a pop song?". I was deeply offended 😂 Ironically, in hindsight, this phrase should have been a hint, considering that now I do covers on UA-cam and not sing in some opera theatre (I don't even sing this song in my full classical voice)😅 So many thanks to my patron Alain Carton, who suggested this song and reminded me of this story!🖤 "Sleeping Sun", as many of you surely know, is dedicated to the total solar eclipse that occurred in August 1999. The lyrics describe the reflections and dreams that this epic event brings to the hearts of mere human beings. So for this video, I decided to show a reflection of something grand in something small, namely a tellurion, a model of the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth that I made myself (for a short while, I considered filming the video in a tub, but my bathroom is too small for that😁). I will tell you more about how I made it in the next behind-the-scenes video, so stay tuned! 😉

It's an extremely challenging song, but I like how each singer performs it differently. I like your velvety voice, I think it gives the song a particular solemnity :)
I believe you and Tarja have the same type of voice and this song is one of my faves from Nightwish that got me into their music aside from the song Nemo :)

@@AlexandriteVoice thks for you answer. Even classical vocal pieces are often tranposed. There's a lot reason to change the key, that's why I asked you. I like to understand 😊
Classical arias from operas are not supposed to be transposed, Placido Domingo even got a lot of heat for singing Herman's Arioso in a lower key. Baroque is a bit different cause they even used a different tuning which is actually about a semitone lower than concert pitch nowadays. Anyhow, unless you are a music snob or have perfect pitch, it doesn't make any difference to a listener, but a lot of difference to a performer. And it's not about the high notes themselves, but about their tone in a particular piece. This song requires a subtle and tender tone especially delicate on those high notes (the original actually goes to up to high G which is quite high for mezzos), and even though I can sing much higher than that the tone would be different and wouldn't suit the song.
