As someone who lives in the same Area as Reapers factory and store I've been using 90% Reaper paints for years and just started adding Army Painter to my tool kit. Glad to see Reapers getting some love.
Of all the flesh tones I use for my minis, I have been using reapers 'warrior flesh' for years because of how smooth it paints. Now all my minis look latino
I've watched a lot of mini painting videos as I've been getting into the hobby... And this is absolutely one of the most impressive paint jobs I've ever seen. Well done, sir.
Very good video. I think you hit the good points of Reaper paints. I find that a quick shake with most Reaper paints usually works and you don't need to break your elbow like with Scale 75 paints. I always tell people not to judge Reaper paints by Reaper miniatures (like the first generation Bones models). Your model turned out great and its great to see more people sing the praises of Reaper paints. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos. However, the background choral music is really distracting when I'm trying to focus on your voice, for what its worth.
Great video! I was always undecided on reaper despite having some good experiences with them before. Your explanation of the paint properties really sold the idea to me. Im taking the dive, just got the khaki triad today. Thanks. Subbed
I've taken all my reaper paints off my wall. Vallejo GC + Model, GSW, AK 3rd gen and ProAcryl are leaps and bounds ahead for me personally. I'll use reaper as an airbrush pain as its already so thinned.
Man, NMM is still the most intimidating thing that I can't do but I want to learn so badly. I'm kinda terrible about taking a while to learn something but once I have it, I have it. That sword, chainmail and helm really hit me in the eyeballs. I watched this video because I'm in the process of switching to Reaper paints because I love the way they behave vs another major brand I have the entire collection of other than their speedy paints. I like contrast paints and speed paints in areas but not for the speed but rather the effect they give me for certain parts of the mini. Seeing the NMM portion of this video really amped me to use my paints that are in the mail and some new 3d printed minis I just got in. I'm going to quit being a sissy and go for it on those minis. If I mess up, I can strip them and try again till I get it right! Thanks for explaining the uses and details of Reaper paints further to us. I ordered 2 bottles of Drow skin color, base & highlight last fall. I was blown away by how thin the paints went on and that even thinned down a little, the amount of coverage they still gave me. I knew I had to get more colors in. I ordered an MSP beginner's kit with 13 colors and that did it. When the yellow, white and reds behaved the way they did, I was hooked. I ordered all 6 kits of the Bones series. I'll get the MSP core set with 216 colors next week. Gorgeous stuff, I can't praise them well enough.
Great video! I've recently tried one of the Reaper learn to paint kits, and I've really enjoyed working with their paints. One issue I've had though is the paint chipping/flaking on the minis a little once finished. I know reaper say you don't need to prime Bones minis, but would you recommend it?
I would never paint a mini without some kinda primer, personally. I think Reaper say bones doesn't need to be primed, because the paint will stick to it...however they make no promises as to how long it'll stay stuck for 😂 I'd definitely prime every time. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos!
@knoyleo I recommend spraying with some varnish to prevent paint chipping. Priming definitely helps as well. I've painted several Reaper Bones minis without primer and with primer. Whenever I use primer, the paint sticks better and the mini is actually easier to paint. However, the no primer minis were acceptable with extra effort. You do need to be careful with what kind of primer you use, because many primers won't successfully cure, and you'll end up with a mess (I've done that too). The primer I use is stynlrez through an airbrush.
Banging Video as always buddy. I really love that flesh workup. I might have to get some inks to reproduce it. I know you did some awesome battle damage when you did imperial fists. Could you do a battle damage tutorial at some point?
I really like Reaper paint because it's a good paint but I really like them as a company. There is almost never a time when I order something from them and don't get a free sample be it some random mini or a random paint. Also I really like their MSP brushes.
Would a beginner still find reaper easier than say scale 75? I get why Scale 75 is more difficult but I thought maybe reaper wasn’t near as hard to use for noobs like me as those?
Issue i have always had with the GW paint pots is they always end up letting air in and eventually dries out the paints forcing you to have to toss out that almost $8 pot of paint for a new one.
I have had a lot of issues with games workshop paint lately when painting on reaper miniatures in metal but also bones. the problem is a mixture of well basically the wrong type of paint for that type of miniature but its also a problem with games workshop paint in general. Or especially their latest? wash having a significantly different behaviour than before. Before i started having any problems back then i was mainly painting with citaldel paint on warhammer miniatures in plastic. What i would do is paint a miniature using layer paint then drybrush it then often times applying a wash either an old CW wash or a watered down layer. That has worked without problems. Then citadel made new washes and i tried using citadel paints on reaper models both metal and bones ones and it hasnt been working. i have tried using the same approach initially the layer paint does a job and drybrushing works to but if i try using a wash. Instead of mixing in well with the existing paints aswell as filling the minis creeks and crevasses. The wash instead acts almost like a varnish and leaves unintended shadows.
I love Reaper paints but what I don't love is the fact that they retire colors too often. Makes me reluctant to rely on them when I don't know what's going to be up on the chopping block next. If I want to mix paints to get what I want there are better lines for that.
Great tutorial video MrShy. I wish Reaper paints were available closer to me, I can only get the in the USA- and no one is going over there these days. So I guess it'll be Citadel for the time being. :P

The spinning view is the cherry on top. Well done. Following. 🎨

Why am I watching this? I use Reaper already? Oh well i guess it’s entertaining to see people who agree with me 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you for this video. I'm switching from citadel paints to a mix of reaper for my base paints and Vallejo and army painter.
It's incredible to watch you work. I am brand new to the hobby. What you did with the hair and the shield is jaw-dropping.
Thank you so much Adam! I hope you find the videos helpful as you get into the hobby. Welcome!

That's brilliant news! I really do love their paint, so much! I hope you have a great time with it.

Of course, my dude! Battle damage is in the pipeline for a quick tips video :) as are oxides and weathering. Maybe I'll group it all into one.

Personally I think Reaper is very easy to use. It can be a little low on coverage sometimes, but that just means an extra coat or two is required.
@@TesseractMinis Ok cool! I’m going to try some of the triad once to practice shading with them!

Yeah, this is why I only use GW for the, shade, contrast, dry, and technical paints in conjunction with MSP paints
Nicely done. Congratulation! Thanks

Do you think using a wet pallete with reaper paints is a bad idea because theyre so runny to begin with?
Nah, they work absolutely fine with a wet palette for me :)

Reaper has a website that ships globally!
Do you still like these paints?
They are the most flat miniature paint.
