They’d ask me questions not because they cared, but for their own entertainment because they thought I was weird and amusing. And when I’d call them out, they’d make that same face! That same frivolous, imbecilic, “knowing look” at each other like a couple of sensible folk dealing with a harmless oaf, as if they weren’t the cynical, disgustingly incurious- um… Wait, I forgot how the next part goes.
Jesus H, this. Except I'm VERY late diagnosed and now looking back on all those interactions I thought I was an actual part of. In fact I think there may have been an entire friendship group I was "in" that was based around my inclusion in the way you describe.
They give such detail to their roles, truly amazing, i. e. Hugh chewing gum, trying to keep up his easygoing image. Some interviewers are so full of themselves, it's really annyoing. And the 4th wall again - the two are hilarous.
