Outstanding job on your design and build of this ground station! Well done my friend and thanks for sharing! I can't believe that some people gave you a thumbs down on this. Just goes to show that there are all kinds of nuts in the world.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Jude Karsyn thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and Im trying it out atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I fly mini quads but didn't know of this channel. I generally follow your lock lab channel. I'm so used to your style, it felt odd not hearing your closing statement "stay safe, stay legal". Perhaps the same statement could be said for the rc hobby 😂. Funny how it applies to both. Always enjoy your videos! - Jacob
WOW!! Talk about prepared!! hehe!! Great video! I am going to set up some type of ground station myself at this point, I don't know if I'll go quite as far as you have lol if I can afford to I might, I'll have to check some prices but this looks very good!! INDEED!!! I will also probably at least to start off only have the 5.8G system so that should save me a few bucks comparably to what you've got going on there. So just wanted to say thanks and you have helped me a great deal for I have watched a couple three other vids on the subject one was a much smaller scale more geared toward what I might use maybe a tad more so, and another that was WOW cool but would cost a fortune everything was top of the line name brand hehe! It'd be nice but I simply do not have the kind of cash to invest in a huge elaborate set up when I don't really even need it to be. So this video of yours helps me in a big way it's somewhere inbetween and I've learned from you that I can make it a bit more elaborate than the small set up I watched but do not have to spend $1000 or more on a good ground station for the conditions I usually fly in. Anyway Awesome video and thanks again! Hope it's still working great let me know if you don't mind I'd like to know now that it is November 2017 if and what you've maybe changed or found out from this set up! Thanks!-L8r Turbo
I really got curious about your antenna setup, especially the paper box antennas. Did you build them? It would be nice to watch some kind of video tutorial about your antennas setup for this ground station. By the way, thank you very much for the video!!
how do you manage the 3 video inputs to the screen, how's the video signal being routed? I'm guessing the rockers power the various sets of receivers, and it only looks like you're using one a/v out on the eagleeyes, so the signals route through each dvr... then what? Do all 3 plug into the monitor and it just chooses whichever one is active?
Wish I had the set up when I lost my first quadcopter, I was only flying with fpv goggles and no dvr recording and I got out of range and it held its last position for throttle value and it slowly drifted away and landed then I lost video , I still have flash backs in my head of the last few seconds of video before I lost signal , sometimes I can’t eat and I replay it in my head over and over I feel like I have PTSD , sometimes when I’m about to pick up my transmitter and go fly a few packs I think of that time and it haunts me , I almost get sick to my stomach and don’t want to fly out of fear I might do the same thing , I keep beating myself up about it rethinking it and trying to remind myself that I could have done something to save it but I didn’t I deliberately choose to fly without dvr that day , it’s my fault I knew what I was getting into but I was so preoccupied with the joy of flying , never again will I fly without dvr . Never again ....
Very nice setup. I'm curious, is your goal to fly simultaneously with multiple bands or do you use just one band at a time? I'm asking because wouldn't it be better to have a single Eagle Eyes with all the video and audio outputs going into diversity (input 1 and input 2)? This way, you could even stack all your antennas on a tracking rig and calibrate tracking with a single Eagle Eyes. You could have all your antenna inputs going to a switch and you could switch between the different bands. This would also reduce the amount of gear being carried. Also, what a cute pepperbox for 5.8GHz, I've never seen one before!
Ok so my Mrs Today asks me why I am picking locks instead of doing my full business Remote Pilot Licence study up to 25kg here in Australia. Now Bill I have just found out another link in personalities, Drone flyers must also like lockpicking or vice versa. Wow im shocked.
What do you think of the LHI QAV250? I only have an old cheap syma x5c which I have to repair permanently but for the basics he was good. Greetings from the German carpenter
What cables are you using that connect the top of your VRX, in the case to the antenna's. I see the SMA connectors on top of them, but what are the cables? Thanks...
Bill, you're about 2 years late to the show. Theres a tread on RCG dedicated to showing ground stations and you will find a lot of elaborate setups but it's overkill these days. You've probably got $500 tied up in
I got them from Hobby King. I tried a couple of others but theirs is really problem free. I basically plugged it in and everything is automatic. Yes, it has a built in menu where you can make all kinds of adjustments, get a time/date, etc, etc, but I'm too lazy to do all that. I just need a good record of where my quad or plane went down so I can recover it. This thing does that flawlessly. $52 @ Hobby King.
Can you message me a build list? I am a volunteer with a local search and rescue group who is setting up a drone team. Having a small ground station to pack in the jeep and share vital images with the ground team or incident command team would be an immense stwp forward!
You can use either Scotch VHB (the elear one) commonly called "Permanent Clear Mounting" tape. It comes in a red package. If you want the ULTIMATE, use Scotch "Extreme Mounting Tape". It is gray and really nasty stuff to remove, so if you use it, make SURE you are mounting where you want it to stay. Forever.
Hey Bill, I am on my 2nd DVR. They were both identical to yours but the playback quality was very much low grade surveillance quality. Maybe some are better than others as they are Chinese made. Whats the playback quality like on yours as recently I switched to a laptop with a Roxio video capture for a major improvement. Still I would prefer no laptop.....
I agree, the video quality is absolute crap. I ues it as a backup in case of a lost model so it is barely adequate. I recently bought a much more expensive Lumenier DVR600 from ReadymadeRC, but am having quality issues with it too. I'm still hunting for a better answer too.
Thanks for your reply. I got on to the video capture unit from a tuber that was using one with success. He was using an old cell phone as a media storage device. I may try that as its still an inexpensive setup and i can use a touchscreen monitor for viewing. the price of the video capture is the same as the Chinese DVR's.
My LCD panel has only a single input, so I simply plug it into the Eagle Eyes output for whatever frequency I'm using. I tried to keep things simple and a splitter seemed like overkill. You can turn on all three frequencies (6 receivers) at once, but only the one plugged into the LCD gets displayed.

@Jude Karsyn It worked and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account :D
@Timothy Yosef Glad I could help :D
A post Build video and parts list would be great. Thx 4 sharing with us!
TSA must think they hit the mother load when they see this. lol. Nice setup!
How to build video would be awesome along with explaining why and how it works. Really professional set up.
He pretty much just explained how it works in the video.

More like " Stay airborne, fly straight" :-)
why doesnt this video have a million views? This stuff is insane!
I was so amazed at how much you sounded like bosnianbill, but after some investigation i found out why. haha.
I was just scrolling through the comments checking if someone else besides me have noticed that hahaha
didnt pick up on that to funny
Killer box dude!! Taking notes!!
are you planning to fly overseas mate ?
Super sharp...very well done!
Brilliant setup.
Wow, that is some dope setup!!!
top notch, nice build!

Hi. Nice setup. Is there any problem running those long extension cables to the antenna?
I really got curious about your antenna setup, especially the paper box antennas. Did you build them? It would be nice to watch some kind of video tutorial about your antennas setup for this ground station. By the way, thank you very much for the video!!
this is sick man, thanks for the informative upload

Perfect timing! I have this ground station listed on eBay if you are interested. Here's the link: www.ebay.com/itm/292839797966
Failsafe should kill motors unless GPS rescue is possible. Then watch the DVR and go get your quad.
Nice setup!
Very cool.

Wow. You got everything cover.
Do you still have the ready made receivers? If so are willing to sell one?
Hi can you put a link of detailed list so we can purchase and make one of those thanks

nice set up 'where can I find the small recorders?????
HobbyKing
You blow my mind !!
Sound was off on entire video. But it was still very informative. :-)
You have a video on how to build this with a lost of parts needed?
What cables are you using that connect the top of your VRX, in the case to the antenna's. I see the SMA connectors on top of them, but what are the cables? Thanks...

Paul Arscott (a heavy duty velcro,or buy at ebay called EZ pass velcro )
I have a friend that has had a few hairy experiences flying 2.4 on video when he gets turned on by a 2.4 transmitter it is kind of panic zone.
Can you make a how to/build?
Thats what this video is. I love his setup, he neatly explained exactly how he did it too.
Do a build video!!
Sad that my dominator v3 doesnt have analog input... Only hdmi?
Nice setup! What dvr are you using?
I got them from Hobby King. I tried a couple of others but theirs is really problem free. I basically plugged it in and everything is automatic. I love it. But my birds nest is bigger!! Excellent build!
Now you are really showing off! I'd just like to have a drone that can actually fly!
Can you message me a build list? I am a volunteer with a local search and rescue group who is setting up a drone team. Having a small ground station to pack in the jeep and share vital images with the ground team or incident command team would be an immense stwp forward!
i cant find a eagle eyes for the life of me! any one have one for sale let me know! if not whats a good alternative ?
how did you attach the recorders to the side of the case? I haven't found anything that will stick to pelican case.
You can use either Scotch VHB (the elear one) commonly called "Permanent Clear Mounting" tape. It comes in a red package. If you want the ULTIMATE, use Scotch "Extreme Mounting Tape". Dont forget to put a cool lock on it for anti-theft ;)
Does the 1.3 Pepperbox need to be mounted on a Tripod, or does it just sit next to the pelican?
I mount mine on a tripod, but leaning it on the pelican case ( or against a tree...) will work.
what is your video out situation? all those eagle eyes go into a splitter? what if you turn on 2 or more switches?

What is a pepper box

My god!!!
This is cool but I think joysticks are better than controllers.
Useless...
