  • The Notre Dame Fighting Irish enter the 2024 college football season with expectations of making the College Football Playoff, but there are still several key questions that the team must answer in order to do so. Tyler Wojciak is joined by former Notre Dame captain and linebacker Mike Goolsby to discuss the expectations for this season, why Mike believes Riley Leonard is better than Sam Hartman, what he’s excited to see from Al Golden’s defense in 2024, and much more.

    Manti IMHO single handily changed our trajectory as a program. Let's be real, his impact on this program is still being felt now and will forever be felt. We came off a Horrible season when he committed and we just hired CBK BAMF. Teo brought that Fight back to Fighting IRISH and he catapulted our program into relevancy again.

      Manti was good, but the Heisman crap was bullcrap. Let's keep it real he was only a Heisman candidate because of the team national title run and ND storied program. Manti should have never been a Heisman candidate. There are other LBs with better results and numbers that were never considered Heisman candidates.
      Alabama exposed Manti and the entire fraud defense. ND played a soft schedule and barely won games that year. BK and ND were not ready for big boy football when they met Alabama. I went to the game.
      For the record, Jaylon Smith was a better LB than MT. Manti point of contact was great, but his tackling was not good. Manti bounced off tackles against Alabama.

    IMHO, it would be the best for everyone involved - and to keep RL healthy - to have RL start the several easy games we have and play the first 1-2 quarters. If we have a good lead by then, rotate in the other QBs and let each get some game experience when there is little threat of anything disastrous happening. That might preserve RL's ankle so he'd be fresh to handle the tougher games and to last longer into the season. That would also give the best QB prospect a head start on next season.

  • @michaelmorris6406
    @michaelmorris6406 26 днів тому +2

    I hate to tell you Mike. CJ's a better quarterback. More accurate. Read a defense better. Looks through all his reeds. He's a one and a lifetime type of talent. I think sometimes you guys overthink it. I love seeing you guys working together. It was a great show. Good luck guys. And go Irish 🍀

    • @Dimwitland
      @Dimwitland 26 днів тому

      This is a reasonable take for what we have seen of CJ so far, and I agree. Our problem is, practice sessions in artificial conditions like Spring Ball, are like plans for a battle and do not survive the first bullet or the first offensive snap in real conditions against someone like A&M and their scary-savvy HC Elko. Who would imagine that Book would be ND's winningest QB in the entire 132 years of the program?? Goolsby's "wait and see" is a good idea, and like you @michaelmorris6406, I think that might go double for some of the other QBs in the room, regardless of his chops as a linebacker. Go Irish!

    • @sbnative574
      @sbnative574 24 дні тому +1

      I hope you're right about CJ. My take is the opposite. I see CJ as overhyped like Ron Powlus, Jimmy Clausen, and Dayne Crist. All hype and no difference, maker.
      The good thing is CJ has better offensive coaching around him and a good QB coach.

    • @michaelmorris6406

      @@sbnative574 I love watching CJ play in the 7 on 7. He's a sniper. He's the best seven on seven quarterback I ever seen. Not cuz his arm or anything like that. Because of his decision making. He sees it and then he throws it. I think he's going to be great

      I hope your evaluation translates into game action. We need a QB that can show up in big moments. When the lights are bright, we need a dude...... I'm so tired of the media making excuses for ND QBs. If RL is not getting it done, let's give another QB an opportunity and build for the future. I went to the Clemson game. SH was horrible! I guess he was irreplaceable because of NIL. Steve Angeli should have had an opportunity in the second half of the Clemson game. QB is holding us back big time!

    Don’t compliment CJ Carr in front of Mike Goolsby😂 he’ll immediately have issues lol. I think not every ND media outlet was crowning CJ Carr. If you are talking about Leonard, I think the ND staff sees how much pressure he puts on defense by being a dual threat. I think QB RL is overrated and still needs development. RL was not good against ND and Clemson. RL had several good runs against ND and Clemson that was critical and changed the game. But his overall body of work in those games was average. We need above average play at the QB position.
    I think QB SA is a wild card. Not athletic and a structure QB like Sam Hartman. The offense line has to play perfectly for them to have success. However, SA plays hard and just needs more playing time for a true evaluation.
    I think QB KM can be the best QB in the room. Smart, athletic, and a strong arm with good accuracy. Plus, I think KM has that it factor in big games. This is what ND has been missing for years.
    I think QB CJC is a good practice player with a ton of hype. Kinda reminds me of Ron Powlus. All hype and QB ND fans continue to make excuses for. However, I hope he's the real deal.
    I would like to see the coaching staff hand the keys to KM. Start building chemistry now for future success.
