Instead of using those clamps to hold the gasket in place while the gasket sealant dries, use the bolts that secure the VC to the head. Run them from the opposite direction from the underside of the VC while the sealant sets. It will hold it in place. Just a hint for those who don't have the clamp or worry about distorting the rubber gasket.
Be sure to check the clearance between the heater hoses and the carb linkages. I have the same valve covers on my 66 with the heater hoses routed the same way. When I had the Edelbrock carb on my engine the linkage actually wore a hole into one of the hoses. Quickly swapped it for a Holley that’s longer front to back rather than wider. Don’t want you to have the same problem.
An upgrade I don't need to do. 😂🤣Making that engine bay look great. Men don't do things because they need to be done . Men do things because they can. Just ask my wife🤣😂
Nice video. I got the same valve covers in polished aluminium 302-138. But for gasket I used the Felpro 13264T. No gasket maker needed, just put the gasket on. Took them off several times, and no leaks.
I am slowly converting to the church of no gasket maker, but it's hard to put the faith solely in the gasket to do all the work. Maybe on the next car I'll go full gasket. :)
I just installed the chrome ones. I wore gloves when applying the gasket maker ;) That stuff stinks! Extra hard for me with a monte Carlo bar and larger alternator. Especially since one of my long screws that came with it wasn't threaded! "Why can't I find the FRIGGIN HOLEEE!!! ... oh" my old ones for anyway.
Haha, I feel you on the Gasket Maker, that stuff gets stuck on my hands for days! I wish valve covers weren't so expensive, it would be nice to trade them up once in a while as my interests change. Oh well, it's only money. :)
I wish I would have heard this before I installed the covers :) Next time I'll know. I did go back and buy longer bolts, they'll be in an upcoming video.
@@AndyKruseChannel Hey I got mine at NPD but they're proform Manufacturer Reference #'s: 302-438, and u can get them in a variety of colors..they cost around 30 dollars but they match the proform valve covers.
On valve covers? You can if you want, but good-n-tight will get'r done. Worst case is a leak if they're not tight enough, but those fasteners are so small, it wouldn't take much to over power them and snap off the head. :)
Hi Andy, I have a 28 model A hot rod with a Mustang 66 289 in it. It has Edelbrock aluminum VC and it appears to me there are only 5 bolts holding them on. The center bolt closest to the carb is not there. Any thoughts? TIA
My guess is those valve covers are like the units I installed in this video and they need a special bolt in the 6th location (top center, near Carb). I think you're fine without that bolt as it's "uphill" from where the oil would leak which is the lower edge near the headers. You might be able to pick up a 4" or 5" bolt from the hardware store and thread it in there. Otherwise, leave it and go drive the car some more. :)
I did not replace the PCV in this video, so I don't know the part number on that one. However, I have replaced the PCV on my current Mustang, it was part number PCV156 and I purchased it at O'Reilly Auto Parts.

This is great advice.
Yea and that also prevents the gasket maker from blocking the bolt holes.
Those valve covers look amazing. They add a nice pop of color to your already beautiful engine bay.
Thanks, I think so too!

Thanks for the tip! It has been on my mind since I put these covers on. :)

Very true, but if you ask her then she'll know there was money spent on new car parts. :)
Haha dang Andy I just put the same ones on my 66 a couple weeks ago.. they're beautiful huh 😁
I actually did these a few weeks ago (make my videos in advance), we probably installed them at the same time! :)

I dont like that blue felpro cover gasket, always leaked on me. I prefer the black rubber one used in this vid.
@@ronchow912 I'm hoping this one won't leak, I post a video about it if it does. :)

Loooove that blue! Nice choice.
Yeah, I really liked those covers. 😄
When you use aluminum valve covers you're supposed to use studs not bolts, if you do that you won't have problems with the gasket falling off
I wish I would have heard this before I installed the covers :)
Next time I'll know. I did go back and buy longer bolts, they'll be in an upcoming video.
They sell a slant edge breather that matches the cover.. just a thought
Got a link?!

@@markhooper6674 Looks like the 302-436 is the one I need, I'll add it to the list. Thanks!!
Looks great… wondering if they have a matching air cleaner? 🤔
I think you can get one that is very close. :)
Aren’t you suppose to torque the bolts down?

What's the part number for the pcv valve

Perfect
Thanks! I may be biased, but I whole-heartedly agree. :)
Are those mt valve covers for sale ?
Sorry Boss, I sold them already.
I can see it in yo hands, this or brought not build 😂😂
Sorry Boss, I don't understand what you're saying.
Good video and great looking car. What radiator do you have in there? @andykruse
That was a 2-Row Champion Rad, with 1 inch tubes. I paid about $200 for it. :)
.. them's worth Thirty Horsepower easy .. 💯👨🔧🧰
At least that much, maybe a pinch more.
