What if Russia Made it to the Moon? - The Great Kerbal Space Race

- The Kerbal factions are locked in an epic competition between the Murkins and the Ruskies to see which faction will lead the exploration of the Kerbol system. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landings this fictional retelling of the Space Race features a scenario where the Soviet N-1 rocket succeeded in putting cosmonauts on the Moon while the mighty Saturn-V shows it prowess as the king of rockets.

story of every Kerbal's life.
This is story of NK-33(НК-33) engines. USSR couldn't handle the cost of a rocket such as Saturn-5. Saturn-5 used open cycle rocket engines which was inefficient and expensive. The only answer to this was make closed cycle engines because they are more powerfull and more efficient and that was NK-series engines. But! They was way more complicated on fundamental level thus they liked to explode. And they exploded A LOT! Eventually USSR made them safe but moon race was over so order was given to destroy them and make it's secret. Engineers that made those engines couldn't take order like that so all of produced engines was hidden in old garage. When USSR fall apart those engines was sold to NASA. When those engines was tested, engineers of NASA was shocked. NK-33 was better in every characteristics then most sophisticated engines that NASA had and this was engines of almost half century old. Question was made to the NASA from government - what the fuck they was doing for almost 50 years? No answer was given.
Forgot to add. Because NK-33 already was a quite dangerous engines, development and production of bigger closed cycle engines was close to impossible at that time. So in the end we have rocket with 30 small engines that was hard to control due to their numbers and they were very like to explode. So... USSR - playing KSP in real life before it become a mainstream)))

You forgot to crash the Apollo transfer stage into the Mun. It’s not supposed to enter Orbit. The Soviet Cosmonauts would have transferred to the lander and back via EVA.

When I did the first video I wanted to include a race to the Mun first but ran out of time, so I finally got around to it. I'm planning a part III as well.

So far, this is the best N1 recreation I've seen in my opinion.
It doesnt looks like a big mobile base but its still god.
I just did this literally yesterday, same exact story for both besides the fact that they did not land near eachother, but right after I did this video showed up in my reccomended. lol

In real life, I think, nobody won. I know Soviet people weren't on the moon, but Soviet rockets sent lots of probes and two moon rovers.
In real life the us won. You can see the trophy at the ksc
Technically the Murkins won, but in the Kerbalized version of the space race it's never over, there's always another planet to explore.
@@jadensmiley6297 I know, but Soviet probes landed on the moon first and even more USSR spaceships landed there, than US. The same to mars.

There is a mod for soviet spacecraft. Feel free to install it an make videos.
Good video, but you made mistakes. Especially with the transfer of the Soviet pilot to LK Moon Lander. At that moment, the Soviets could not transfer people via a docking port, they had to do it in EVA mode.
And that the Apollo reconfiguration maneuver was before they hit the Moon’s SOI.
