Mine is too. This made me ask the what's, the why and the how. When you have children and / or grandchildren ,as I do I become frozen in fear wondering if my family would be able to fool and ultimately find freedom from these monsters, so many of which still walk among us.

I was never kidnapped or anything like that where I had to fight to get away but I was sexually abused as a child by a teacher and I do agree life is not the same and I do wonder if that had never happened to me would I have made the same negative decisions, I was a heroin addict, I have been clean for over ten years now and got a bachelors degree and a job I love (I am a teacher) I do not think I would have used drugs if the abuse had not happened. My abuser went to prison for just over two years from the six he got in court he is out now I rarely if ever think of him!

Having escaped from a man, who caught me and held a knife to my throat, I can relate. He made it clear that he would rape me. Somehow, I managed to clear my terrified mind and saw a way out at the last moment. Police said he had, no doubt, followed me before and had other victims. It is very difficult to recover from such a nightmare and I'm in awe of that brave woman. Trauma can destroy you or inspire you. I choose to make the best of my life. Elizabeth Grogan Other than similarity of the crimes, do you see similarities in yourself to the qualities she possessed, such as presence of mind, that enabled her to escape? I know you said getting your anxiety under control was essential and I’m wondering what else. Pardon me if I’m coming off as nosy, but why I’m asking is my wife and I are parents of a pre-teen daughter and want to know if there is more we can teach her beyond the basic things we already have.

Pretty sure Samuel Little was my attacker. I was simply using a phone booth in a parking lot to try and get a ride home after a so called friend ditched me to hang out with a guy she met at the Mexican restaurant/club we were at together I ignored my radar when he pulled up telling myself he was going to use the other phone. He then pulled me into his car and drive me to a semi remote place with my face held down into his lap.

I once heard an expert say, never allow your self to be removed from crime scene one to crime scene two. He maintained that most of us would do anything if approached with a weapon and we would think if we would just comply, we would be let go. He stated that even if you are shot, stabbed or injured your chances of surviving crime scene one were better than when you are taken away, restrained and at crime scene two. I never forgot that advice.

I was caught unawares once, attacked from behind. I remember trying to scream but no sound came out my mouth. I was frozen in shock. Luckily some people came walking our way and he ran off. But If a grown man put a gun to my neck when I was 15, I'm not sure it would have been possible to do anything other than go along with him, purely because he was obviously so much stronger. These psychopaths also have explosive tempers so they're likely to be even more violent and cruel once they have you in their car and under their control. You're kind of doomed either way, but if you remain calm, like Kara did, and the way she thought things through - that he couldn't be vigilant 24/7. In this case, she did the right thing. But imagine if he'd woken up while she was trying to escape? The horror. She was unbelievably brave.

There was a lone woman whose car broke down on a Ca. hwy, leaving her stranded on the side of the road when serial killers Kenneth Bianchi & Angelo Buono (the Hillside Stranglers) just happened to be driving by and pulled over under the guise they were going to assist her when in fact, their intent was to abduct & murder her.
She had no idea who they were and while engaging in idle chit-chat w/the two, she mentioned her father's name (who I believe was in law enforcement) and one of the killers just happened to know and liked her father so the killers decided against targeting her.
She only learned about her close brush w/death when one of the killers later related their encounter w/the woman to investigators who were able to contact her because the killers had given them her father's name.

They’re not “allowing someone” to harm them, but they didn’t get relief in time. Male violence or sexual and physical-makes a mark on people who have to survive it for more than one or two days. That made me laugh. I once had a guy get in my car and refuse to get out saying I was going to take him home and he was going to .... So I drove straight to the police station and jumped out screaming at him to get out of the car and put his hands on the car lol he must've believed I was a officer cos he did it lol I jumped back in and Locked my doors and sped off ! It definitely serves to have some balls in these situations

Ashleigh is so good at this. Wow. A friend of mine was kidnaped when she was thirteen years old, walking to school. A truck driver stopped his vehicle and grabbed her. She didn't say anything as they drove away, but about a mile up the road she said, "Your mother would be ashamed that you did this." He stopped the truck and let her go. She never told her parents this happened to her. She just returned to school as if nothing was out of order.

This would have been so much easier to watch if the host would not have so rudely interrupted and even talked over the guests words. Especially when Ted Bundy's victim was trying to extend how sorry she was for the victims families who didn't make it. She wasn't allowed to finish what she wanted to say. The host was even forcing the Doctor to stop talking when he was only answering her question. These survivors deserved to be able to speak without the constant interrupting. It made the show seem so shallow. Won't watch this particular program again.
