Oh, nice, John! Good to hear. I found this to be the easiest way to light these without a ton of wires going everywhere. And it was easy and cheap. If you wanted, you could even upgrade to tape lights that come with remotes and also change colors. Thanks for the kind words and for checking out the video! I really appreciate it.
I've been looking for an easy lighting solution for a Detolf for a while now... and most of them weren't easy at all. This one is and I just ordered a LED strip to try it out over the weekend. Thank you so much!
Wow, thanks Grey Jeyne! I REALLY appreciate that! I'm glad this solution was helpful to you. The hardest part was taking all the stuff out of them and laying them down on the floor to work on them. Otherwise, my LEDs are still adhered and working great, so I can totally still recommend this! I hope yours go smoothly, quickly and come out beautifully! Cheers!
Oh, that's awesome to hear! I'm glad this was useful to you. My lights are still working great and the adhesive is still holding up as well, so you won't be disappointed. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out!
Awesome suggestions and I will be using this. One thing I did with my Detolf was put them on one of those 3x1 cube storage boxes sold by Walmart. "Better Homes & Garden " ones very sturdy and gave me the extra storage under the glass cabinets & made the bottom shelf 1 foot off the floor. Looks great and with these lights will look even better!
I ABSOLUTELY have to try that! These need to be elevated and I've been at a loss for how to do that. Great idea! I'm glad the lightning suggestion was useful to you. Thanks for stopping by and for the kind words!
Wow! Thanks, Sentri! I appreciate that. I just wish I had filmed it as I was doing the work, as opposed to after I was finished. Glad it helped, though. If I do a 3rd cabinet, I'm gonna film the process this time. Thanks for stopping by, checking out the video and for the sub!
@@PaulsCollectibles that would be a great video as well. I’ve vetted numerous options and I’ve always been a keen on this particular approach. This video tipped the scales for me in this method’s favor. This way also makes it very maintainable when you eventually have to swap in now strips, as opposed to dealing with zip ties and all of that jazz. Great stuff
Hey, thanks, Sean! I really appreciate the kind words. The video isn't really all that great because I was still learning how to film and edit, but the concept for the lighting turned out to be one of my greatest ideas by accident! Haha! I hope it helps if you decide to do something similar. Thanks for checking out the video.
Thank you so much for this video! I just put together my Detolf and looked up "LED strips for glass display case", your video was the first result! I was like "What the hell, is Google psychic?" Lol
Oh! That's awesome to hear, Cameron! I'm glad this as helpful! And, I made this video a while ago and the lights are still working perfectly and adhered to the poles, so there appears to be some durability to his idea as well. Thanks for checking out the video!
Nice! I'm glad it helped, Luke. If you decide to do this with your cases, I can't wait to see the end result. It's going to be beautiful in that display room you have!
Thank you very much, sir! I was happy with the results for the little amount of effort and money that goes into doing it this way. I have since added two more cases and used the same method each time!
looks great! I got these rgd led ring lights that just don't light up my figures very well. specifically the front so it just shines down and casts shadows like crazy. I'm going to use your idea. great job. 👌
Thanks, SB! I appreciate the kind words. Hopefully this video, and maybe some others that I do, will be informative and/or entertaining! I do appreciate you stopping by and checking out the channel.
Thank you very much, Nicole! I was very happy with the results, especially since it was so easy and inexpensive to install. Thanks for stopping by and watching the video!
Right, Jeffery?! I live in the desert southwest of the US and everything gets SO dusty here. I wish I had thought to do that when I had the thing empty on the floor. Now I have to get up the motivation to install one some day. Thanks for the wonderful compliment and thanks for stopping by and checking out the video!
The best way to do this is with aluminum channels and diffusers so you don't get that cheap ugly look with the heavy glare. It's extra effort but worth it.
Very true! I bet that would look great! Of course, this video was an exemplar for effort and cost versus benefit, and an examination of time versus reward. For what you get, this method is very sharp, yet easy and inexpensive to accomplish. As with anything, a continual application of effort, expense and time will yield greater results, until the law of diminishing returns finally makes the endeavor no longer worthwhile. This, however, was meant to be an example of but one of many ways to achieve a stunning result. Thanks for stopping by and checking out the video!
Haha! No doubt! I had to make some hard choices on this display and just decided to go chronologically from top to bottom. No "scout trooper disrespect" here though, I promise!
Jeanine, I get the 16 foot rolls. There will be plenty for the job and you'll have a little excess on the end to cut off. Here's to your cabinets turning out beautifully as well!

Thanks, Paul! To tell you the truth, I watched a lot of other UA-cam videos on lighting these cabinets, and I didn't like most of them. Either the lights were too visible, there were cords running everywhere, you had to modify the shelf heavily and whatnot. So, on a whim, I avoided all those suggestions and tried this out just as a lark. I was shocked it worked so well and that I'd gotten so lucky! Thanks for checking out the video!

Did you run into any issues with the door sealing? I've built two of these and can't find a video or solution anywhere that shows how to fix this. Top magnet won't catch. Bottom catches flush.
@@PaulsCollectibles it's super frustrating. I can physically torque the top wood counterclockwise and it snaps shut but as soon as I let go it pops open at the top 😞
