@@fcpeurowonder how much more you could push the 2.4. I’ve seen even on the RN VVT engines it can be hard to get past 260hp.
Wonder would some head work get you guys closer to the TWR engines numbers. What is the redline on it at the minute? TSP Sweden have valve springs they say are rated to 10k rpm

Remember the movie with the English late comedian, and he was a advertising director and he did a advertising, with Volvo 850 saloon, so it's rag line was Volvo. Its boxy. The films pretty OK.
The race car company that built them was TWR Tom Walkinshaw Racing who built the Aston Martin DB7, XJ220, and HSV for GM Australia.

I'm so glad you chose to highlight this car. It was so cool seeing it at Lime Rock during Gridlife this summer. Definitely one of the more unusual builds present, and the only Volvo wagon doing laps which just makes it even cooler. It was really cool to get to see Larry chasing in the white Supra camera car all weekend. I swear it looked like you were glued to the back bumper on alot of the runs. I had no idea you had skills like that behind the wheel.

This was the car i drove in TOCA touring car on playstation when it came out. I even got it on two wheels frequently corning in the game.

I daily a factory 5 speed Volvo v70 wagon slicktop. Such a fun commuter. 7k RPM in the tunnel and I’m still doing the speed limit😂

I've always liked Volvo. I wish they would bring back the C70 in a more sportier model. The C30 is a pretty wicked hatch as well.
Ever driven a C30? Even the R feels very heavy, not much fun to drive dynamically
Isn't the c30 just an uglier mk2 focus (if you got them in the USA)? They sound cool, they can probably be quite quick, but fuck me are they ugly

There was much stretching of the rules as said to get this thing to make the power it needed. Basically machined the head down at an angle to get better flow through the valves due to rules about not changing various things vs the road version.

As someone who had a 850 as a fist car and a volvo nerd/enthusiast who still own 850 5TR and a V70R I appreciate the shoud out for volvo. In my personal opinion they are forgotten and easily dismissed as boring

No. They built the 850R as a replacement for the 850 T5R.
the ideal spec IS a non-turbo, non-sunroof, non-auto, non-wagon 850.. it's the *lightest, most rigid version.. this dude can say what he wants, GLASS weighs a TON and it's overhanging the centerline of the rear axle = bad. guaranteed, the sedan version with this exact setup would beat it around a track. the claim to fame of 850 NA isn't the power, it's the handling and any weight overhanging the axles limits handling.
Next project, but put a ford focus 5 cyl ST Engine in it and send it to the louds. Crowd fund it then give the car to a student body for disadvantaged families to help the children get ahead in life.
So I have a 1998 V70 Volvo I would like to put a quick release steering wheel in there I'm having trouble finding the right hub can you guys point me in the right direction for a short hub to then attachment quick release to
that is long, would be a good candidate for truck conversion....LOL
We thought about lopping off the rear half and making it a truck haha
You will never see a 3 series wagon with an original 300k 5 speed, let alone, one on a track. I'm pretty surprised he didn't opt for a 2.5 and simply use NA parts from the 2.4. Also, why does it not surprise me that Larry had a 740?

i think you misunderstood. they paid $850 for a cheap Volvo 850 and turned it into this tribute....not once did they say they purchased the actual BTCC car lol

only the race cars had the special slant heads that was an advantage in touring car racing. nothing special about this hipsters car.
