Some of us live life and go through trials and tribulations some people could never fathom. I believe Johnny Rodriguez has that kind of life and I can definitely relate. He's one of my favorite country artist and his music got me through some tough times.
My neighbor, Texas Ranger Joaquin Jackson arrested Johnny for stealing goats near Hondo. While sitting in the Uvalde jail, Johnny asked if he could have his guitar. Joaquin, after hearing him play, called a friend of his in the music business and the rest is history. Johnny sang country absolutely wonderfully.
I gave this song to the man I dated when he had to return back to the U.S after working in my Country for 21/2 years.Did not expect anything from him, because I knew he was returning and possible starting a new life.It so happened that he had never forgotten about me and now we’ve been married for 36 years.Beautiful song and memories!
I played drums for Johnny Lee for almost 14 years, so our band was able to back up Johnny Rodriguez on quite a few occasions. I love his songs and his voice, and a great guy to hang out with. This song in particular has a special meaning for me. My mom loved this song so much. I kind of tear up when I hear it. The first time I played this backing up JR, I almost lost it. I miss you so much Mom.
Your mom is living protected from the erosive waves of time - this is evident in your words. She exists in you. My mom, passed 39 years ago, so young, I as well. Hugged her, she asked, last words - a few more...ours,all positive. Writing since then. She taught me good and moving on , not to look back.
I spent 2 tours in iraq and 1 in Afghanistan. I know what your feeling. Music makes the world more tolerable. I know it sucks watching your friends die, and doing the things that no one could ever understand. Hold on my brother. Semper fi
After Vietnam, I dragged my soul on stones and cactus, JR had a soothing effect on this PTSD vet, thanks Johnny, love all your songs. Wish you could live forever, will follow and live til my final breath.
My all time favorite country song. You just can't beat Johnny. I've been a fan for 40 years. Now I play this on guitar and sing it with my boyfriend, named Johnnie!
Saw him at a small venue about 6 months before all this craziness hit! He played all his old hits and I took my 17 year old son with me. We both had a blast!
I'm only 28 but my dad introduced me to this music 6 years ago. We listen to willies roadhouse on suirus radio often. This is my favorite song by JR. Just wish I could get it on i tunes. I consider this kind of music the best country music ever recorded!
I think I’ve been crazy about Johnny Rodriguez the first time I heard his voice, never had the recognition he should have..I believe in Happy Endings..♥️
This should be "required" listening for every couple. Makes us realize petty stuff isn't worth the hurt it can cause. Could call this song love's national anthem.
This was mine and my husband's favorite song, we would dance in the parking lot of restaurants if this song came on. Johnny Rodriguez is great. I miss my husband. Thank you JR for your great music.
Through 47 years of marriage, with ups but also severe downs, we have persevered. We are now blessed with true happiness in our golden years. This song means everything to us.
Who can tell just how it starts Angry words and broken hearts Till silently we sit apart You and I But in a while, the anger's gone We forget who's right or wrong And one of us will end it all With just a smile We believe in happy endings Never breaking, only bending Taking time enough for mending The hurt inside We believe in new beginnings Giving in and forgiving We believe in happy endings You and I Just a word is all it takes And so at last the silence breaks And looking back it makes us ache For what we've done And so we cling together now And wonder why we're oh so proud And all that matters anyhow Is our love We believe in happy endings Never breaking, only bending Taking time enough for mending The hurt inside We believe in new beginnings Giving in and forgiving We believe in happy endings You and I
Johnny sings with lots of passion and heart. He has always been my favorite country singer, so noble and so down to earth. Blessings to you Johnny Rodriguez
2022, still listening to this song. never breaking a lasting memory. The windows to the heart still open for an escape, only this song rides the dreams, the profound classic country.
Oh wow, I just love this song and love to hear Johnny sing it. Just can't explain how he gets way down in your heart and feelings. I wish I could see him sing at least one time
The hurt inside...songs like this are dying with the Singers, but we believe in HAPPY endings as we listen to CDs of the past, the past will never die with us. RIP to those that gave us great entertainment and songs.
I was lucky to see him in concert at the McAllen Civic Center decades ago (70's). Still enjoying his music after all this time. Very under-rated singer! McAllen Texas!!!
I could listen to this song forever as well as all the other songs...Johnny sings, so much passion in his voice, I especially like to hear a few Spanish verses!
I have this song on CD and it amply demonstrates what a great singer Johnny Rodriguez is. It is an awful pity that he is not hitting the charts presently as he used to do with so much regularity back in the 70's and 80's.
Thank you for posting this song. I searched high and low and finally found it here on YT. One of my favs. Reminds me of old country when, living in NY, I would listen to the only C&W radio station available and it was the disco 70s. My God how I despised that music. Besides JR who should have been bigger in his day due to his talent and likeability, where are the likes of Johnny Duncan, Eddy Arnold, Charlie Pride, Jim Reeves, the Oak Ridge Boys, Staler Brothers, and Red Steagall today? Miss the old C&W terribly.
My heart keeps escaping here, feels the hurt inside, the sunlight keeps dancing through the window while silently my mind catches yesterday, but it keeps being washed with tears, living with "Nam."
Ole Johnny had so many good songs. Always wanted to drink a beer with him. But now I don't drink. This version of his is my favorite. Reminds me of an ex wife of mine.
I love, love this song so much, and back in 1988 when the great Earl Thomas Conley and Emmylou Harris made it a wonderful number one duet, I had no idea it was a cover from ten years earlier. Just a wonderful and a beautiful song.. :-]
We had to call in hospice for Kathryn Amelia McCuiston, when she could enjoy these classic country songs, Johnny Rodriguez was oftened requested... Thank you from The Family
My wife and I will be married 52 yrs.this coming Julu 30th.We have tried to lived by this song ever since it came out.So pretty and the words are awesome. Thanks for posting it,this is the best version for us.
Fell in love with JR music in the 70s met him before his show at Nashville North in Taylorsville Illinois at KFC eating chicken with his manager. Still love him today
*_Johnny Rodriguez is a True Texas Treasure_*
Some of us live life and go through trials and tribulations some people could never fathom. I believe Johnny Rodriguez has that kind of life and I can definitely relate. He's one of my favorite country artist and his music got me through some tough times.
I started following Johnny's singing when he first came on the music scene and it is 2024 and I still get a thrill when I hear him.
Isn't that the way it goes sometimes? That let's you know it was meant to be!
Is that a true story my Friend?
@@kygreenskeeper8326 Read Joaquin's book. He lays it out.
@@sisleymichael absolutely will..thank you
@@kygreenskeeper8326 I lived it. My Dad was the Baptist preacher. Johnny actually sang at our church several time. My Dad loved him. I did too.

My all time favorite country song. You just can't beat Johnny. I've been a fan for 40 years. Now I play this on guitar and sing it with my boyfriend, named Johnnie!
Loved the Johnny Rodriquez sound. Very under rated performer. Make it look so effortless. God Bless.
A fellow goat thief. Gotta love Texas Hill Country's own.
Saw him at a small venue about 6 months before all this craziness hit! He played all his old hits and I took my 17 year old son with me. We both had a blast!

This was my father's favorite song, when it was playing at his memorial service the floor was soaked with tears.
This is by far the best version of the song. Should have been a No. 1 hit.
I think I’ve been crazy about Johnny Rodriguez the first time I heard his voice, never had the recognition he should have..I believe in Happy Endings..♥️
What a great talent,no auto-tune,I hope he's a member of the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame....
SO under rated!!!! He was so awesome!
He was so talented and sing some beautiful country music.
This should be "required" listening for every couple. Makes us realize petty stuff isn't worth the hurt it can cause. Could call this song love's national anthem.
My Dad's favorite song by him. RIP Dad,I will see you on the other side.
I like Johnnys version of this song the best. He's one of my favorites.
I was 7 or 8 yrs old in the early seventies when my father brought home a Johnny Ridriguez album. Loved him ever since. Continue on Rigas.
I started playing the guitar when I was 16. “Pass Me By “ was the first song I learned! I’m 60 now! I love his music.
This was mine and my husband's favorite song, we would dance in the parking lot of restaurants if this song came on. Johnny Rodriguez is great. I miss my husband. Thank you JR for your great music.
JR has the most beautiful smile! He was gorgeous back in the day. Love love love his voice!!!😍💕
Very very best version of this song. Thanks Johnny.
Through 47 years of marriage, with ups but also severe downs, we have persevered. We are now blessed with true happiness in our golden years. This song means everything to us.
Who can tell just how it starts
Angry words and broken hearts
Till silently we sit apart
You and I
But in a while, the anger's gone
We forget who's right or wrong
And one of us will end it all
With just a smile
We believe in happy endings
Never breaking, only bending
Taking time enough for mending
The hurt inside
We believe in new beginnings
Giving in and forgiving
We believe in happy endings
You and I
Just a word is all it takes
And so at last the silence breaks
And looking back it makes us ache
For what we've done
And so we cling together now
And wonder why we're oh so proud
And all that matters anyhow
Is our love
We believe in happy endings
Never breaking, only bending
Taking time enough for mending
The hurt inside
We believe in new beginnings
Giving in and forgiving
We believe in happy endings
You and I
If you ever feel stupid just remember people disliked this
Fortunately Johnny Rodriguez still does perform quite often in south and west Texas. If your in the Llano, Tx area he will be performing 9/7/17..
He and Freddy Finder gave the meaning of Tex Mex music and no yet comes close to them.
Who could not love Johnny? ♥️
I have always liked the music of Johnny Rodriguez. Well, the words may sound so simple. At the same time they mean so much in every way.

I think the word is "heartwarming". Great story of real love, musically nothing better for harmony and the soft sound of violins. Super song!!
