So much whining in the comments. They said they would be adding new and different Civs to the game and Australia is overdue for an appearance. All the traditional Civs will be added over time so whats the big deal?
Didaman123 the big deal, is that Civ 6 is like that thing you just have to complain about right now. I really feel bad for Firaxis... Sure. The game have its flaws. Civ 5 was obviusly flawless and incredible at launch. Wasn't hated on and uncomplete at all! (Irony at that last part)

Their theme sing Waltzing Matilda that plays in different version when playing as Australia, is probably one of the best choices for Civ. The song changes enough that it can be slow or fast, and played on any instrument. It’s also upbeat and energizing.
I can't believe so many people are asking this, so let me give the definitive answer as I am an Australian, who lives in Australia. YES. AUSTRALIA IS A CIVILIZATION. Ya bloody drongos.
Quite frankly one of the best places to live on earth. consistently has the highest human development, some of the most liveable cities on earth.punches far above it's weight in culture, sports, and science for a country of 23 million odd. probably one the most equitable democracies in human history. and people are asking if it's a civilization?
Odd that people are pissed off at the inclusion of a (surprisingly) under-represented culture in video games. Doubly odd that they'd rather have a bunch of long-defeated and dead empires from antiquity than an interesting, modern nation that's never been in the game before. Sometimes it's nice to have new Civs instead of the same old antiquated ones.
+Peeled Apples People don't realize that as a developed, extensive, and influential country, Australia is a modern-day "empire" in every sense of the word. It doesn't matter that Australia is a younger civilization. What matters is the history they're CREATING.
Bit silly to talk about "Anglo-Saxon culture." While the English speaking nations all have cultural commonalities, they're also vastly different. American culture (which, given its vast variety, is an almost useless term in itself) is distinct from English culture. Scotland has a unique culture. New Zealand has a unique culture. These countries have been distinct entities for long enough to have evolved unique and easily distinguishable identities of their own. Even our dialects of English have diverged to give each region its own ethno-linguistic flavour. Speaking of an "Anglo-Saxon culture" is like speaking of an "Arabic culture" or a "Bantu culture." But these ethno-linguistic groups contain an enormous degree of cultural individuation.
Actually, Scotland has Celtic, not Anglo-Saxon origins. You are right that former British colonies have some cultural differences, but their cultural roots are mostly Anglo-Saxon though, and this basic culture is undoubtedly most influential and ubiquitous in modern world. This is why I think that jotabe1789 is right. Moreover, as you can see, Australia in Civ6 is represented as modern state (*of Anglo-Saxon colonial origins*), not as indigenous Australian civilization, which is, obviously, much more under-represented. By the way, this post-colonial Australia also has _Caucasian male_ as leader. This video is posted couple of days ago and it seems that no one complains about that. I wonder, does it mean that survived australian aborigines have not enough one-legged lesbians on their side to make an uproar?
@@dennischan1349 I want the Olmecs....... Then maybe the Dacians, Thracians, Etruscans, throw in Cumans, Tatars, Huns, Bulgarians, Serbians..... Let me think.... Perhaps even Manchurians, Jurchens, Armenians, Dravidians too. Then maybe just maybe the list will be comolete
Please like and draw attention to this! I didn't see him wearing his AJA (Australian Journalists' Association) badge in the cut-scenes. It's very important as he wore it every day in office when he was prime minister. It was important to him in life and it should be included his representation. If I've made an error than please ignore this.
HOLY FUCK THEY ACTUALLY GAVE US DIFFERENT MILITARY UNIT MODELS. OUR DIGS ACTUALLY HAVE SLOUCH HATS, OUR OWN UNIQUE AND AWESOME AS FUCK UNIFORM. THIS IS SOMETHING AUSTRALIA HAS DESERVED FOR SUCH A LONG TIME IN VIDEO GAMES. GET IT IN YA MATES.
Australia looks like a great "tall" civ. They can make an army in a hurry, when declared war or liberating conquered cities. The bonuses to Coastal cities mean you can play effectively on smaller islands while still keeping up the housing, and not having to devote precious land to Neighborhood districts. Personally im very excited to play Austrailia
Guys, don't worry. The next major update will be including MP teams, modding tools, steam workshop support, bug fixes, balance changes, and an AI improvement.
Civilizations we need in the future!!: Netherlands Austria-Hungary Persia Ottoman Mali Canada Inca Chile Korea Mongolia Malaysia Israel Sweden Ethiopia Morocco Portugal Celtic May of forgotten some, but these are definitely needed!
Andrew Gerges During the live stream they said the next DLC after this will include 2 new Civs and I'm almost positive Portugal will be added and led by Isabella because she was on the leaked leader photo. I'm unsure about the second one though. Persia maybe?
PancakePuppy Persia would be nice, but I would prefer the Netherlands, Persia was influential in ancient times, yet all its remnants are being destroyed by Isis, I like Netherlands because you can build tall cities and have a massive trading empire and wealth
I'm honestly excited to see Australia in game not just because I'm Australian but because of what it means for civ selection for the game, as most of this comment section attests there is a serious assumption among civ players that to be an interesting playable civ you need to be a well known superpower but with the way civ six is set up with the unique musical theme for each nation, the unique district and unit pretty much any civ can be unique and interesting to play as. And to those complaining about Australia being released instead of the mongols or the ottomans not inly is it refreshing to see new blood in a civ game but as new cigs are being released in a stand alone fashion and not as part of an expansion if we keep buying them they'll keep making them and we can all be happy. So yes with whatever bias I May have to my nation finally being represented aside its refreshing to see a new modern colonial nation put into a civ game and have it look interesting and just as fun to play as Rome or Russia. PS . when friends of mine and I discussed adding Australia I totally called john curtain being our leader.
I can't help but feel massively underwhelmed by this choice of second DLC. Was really looking forward to some of the big boys we're still missing like the Persians, Ottomans, Inca, Mongols, Mali, Netherlands, Indonesia... basically anyone else. For the second ever DLC this seems extremely uninteresting and unappealing.
Michael Novotny Well, if I were making a video game about the Spanish Civil War I'd expect Francisco Franco's army to make an appearance before I brought in the Canadian foreign volunteers. And if we're just talking straight up diversity there are way more interesting choices than another post colonial English cultured nation. Nigeria, Olmec, Nepal, Xhosa, Wallachia, Navajo, hell I'd have taken aboriginal Australians before post colonial ones.
***** I think you misunderstand me, perhaps that's my fault. I don't have a problem with Australia being in the game at all. I have a problem with it being DLC 2 as in my opinion there are currently enough dark horses in the game (Brazil, Scythia, Norway, Gorgo's Greece, etc) that continued focus on bringing in more niche picks is unnecessary at this time. If Australia were released in a bundle with other civs, or released later down the line, I'd have at best token opposition. It's just that being civ 2 (3 if you count the early access Aztecs but frankly I don't count that cheap marketing ploy as anything other than a cheap marketing ploy) and precluding so many other series favorites and long runners seems in poor taste, especially since again there are much more culturally diverse picks than modern Australia if they wanted to just swing entirely for left field. TLDR: Australia not problem, Civ 2 problem.
Meady What about shooting your British masters ? You made me remember how dice chosed a cowboy instead of the Victor side everyone agrees defence was more impressive than the offense
As an Australian, they couldn't of chosen a damn better prime minister, or leader to represent us. Did you know Curtin threatened Winston Churchill in WW2 of becoming a republic during the war if Britain didn't return some Australian soldiers from the European theatre to defend Australia on the Kokoda trail in the Pacific theatre. At that time, majority of Australian soldiers were in Europe, not the pacific, leaving Australia vulnerable and this was during the period where Japan was aggressive and on the attack.
IMHO civilizations with deeper history roots should be introduced sooner. Kinda not expected this update actually. Then again, fixes are STRONGLY PREFERRED.
We literally have 25,000 years of civilisation here, mate. Here's to our Aboriginal brothers who invented a nomadic form of agriculture and hunting based on bushfire. They were also using the agricultural technique of letting areas lie fallow tens of thousands of years before anyone in Europe ever thought to do it.
Here's to the Aboriginals, the people who survived the land of abominations filled with huge spiders and toxic taipans and bull ants. GIVE THEM SOME CREDIT
as a person who has played with Australia he is a fricken king if you play on an island map. coastal cities getting +4 housing (+1 from normal coast and +3 from ability), unique unit getting a buff near the coast (which is easy when the islands are small enough), and the Outback Stations providing both food and production (and more when connected) and Holy Sites, Theater Squares, and Commercial Hubs getting bonuses from high appeal tiles you will be set for the entire game.
I have been wanting this for ages!! Since getting into the game I've desired Australia, even though I am American. Nice to see some new civs that have not been in the series so far. And before people get testy about it not being a demanded civ like the Mongols or the Mayans, remember that those will probably be with a LARGE DLC.
Hey, here’s the basis for your Canadian Civ. Canada - Coast to Coast - Internal trade routes claim unconquered land tiles for Canada. They also provide +1 amenity to the destination city.(This is in reference to the Canadian Pacific Railway which was an integral part of unifying the nation during Confederation.) Lester B. Pearson - Father of Peacekeeping - After researching the “Political Philosophy” civic, Lester’s government permanently gains +1 slot for a diplomatic policy. Lester’s military units also gain bonus combat strength equal to the number of city-states he is the suzerain of. (Lester is one of the key members that founded the United Nations. He also served in both world wars and as Canada’s minister of foreign affairs.) Trading Fort - Replaces the Encampment - Provides +1 trade route capacity and culture bombs adjacent tiles. In later eras, they also provide culture and tourism. (Trading forts date back to when Canada was still a colony of european powers. They served as defensive fortifications and still exist today as either an impressive building or as a recreation of an original.) Voyageur - Unique Recon unit - Gains the portage promotion. With it, the unit can cross rivers without ending it’s turn and moving along a river requires half a movement point. (Voyagers were colonials that learned the ways of the Indigenous Canadians. They learned to use rivers to expedite the advance of the fur trade of North America.)
I, for one, am excited about Australia being added. Despite what a lot of people think, us Aussies have a very distinct culture and history, as well as being a key political factor for the Asia-Pacific region. Very nice to have that acknowledged and put into Civ VI.
As Gabriel said, we also announced our next major free update, coming soon to Civilization VI. Details here: civilization.com/news/entries#civilization-vi-australian-summer-2017-update-multiplayer-teams-mod-tools
sickre Its probably because our coast is much more habitable than inland, due to the bowl kind of shape the landmass takes on. Vast majority of the population live on the coast.
I think this is the civ for me. Playing passive-aggressive with the ''Pasture bomb'' ability ( I'm going to call it like that because it sounds a lot more interesting than culture bomb ), If you don't have an army when someone declares a war on you ( like me ) the bonus production is really helpful, and it makes liberating cities so much better. Good on Pangea, yet can play quite well on Island maps ( your tiles most likely are going to get a lot more appeal due to more cliffs )
I have to say I'm actually quite disappointed. I really thought after seeing the Janissaries in the Jadwiga scenario that we'd get something like Ottomans+Byzantium in the next DLC. Australia is fine, but it just feels too lackluster of an offer.
Australia is great. This choice makes sense in a lot of ways. 1: Australia is one of the biggest purchasers and players of video games worldwide. 2: When playing a "world map" game of Civ, Australia is the only continent that's empty, and adding Australia as a civ fixes this. 3: Australia hasn't been represented in a Civ game before and totally deserves representation over other civs that have already seen addition.
1) That's a financial reason so it's not exactly as great for players as it is for the developers. 2) That's not a good enough reason in my opinion. I could argue that you could just "colonize" it with your own civ later, just like the UK actually did in real life. 3) We also haven't seen Toltecs, Hittites, Israel, Etruscans, Magyars, Bulgars, Vandals, Goths etc in a Civilization game either. If you ask me, any of the aforementioned would be more interesting historically than Australia. Plus, just because we have seen Ottomans, Persians or Mongols before in a Civ game, that doesn't make them any less worthy to be used again. They are the kind of "big civs" that you just can't skip, just like Greece, Rome or the US. And i repeat, Australia isn't bad, it just feels lackluster compared to other possible civs.
Basileus Rhomaion During the live stream they said the next DLC after this will include 2 new Civs and I'm almost positive Portugal will be added and led by Isabella because she was on the leaked leader photo. I'm unsure about the second one though. Persia maybe?
PancakePuppy Isabella was a queen of Spain though. She might be added as the second Spain leader. If they said that I expect it to be Byzantium+Ottomans. Jannisaries are finished and fully functional with icons and everything and the Byzantines were shown in the Vikings scenario. And it would make sense for them to be released in the same DLC pack (1453 scenario for example).
Unique Unit: The Emu's Emu's can't attack other units, however they are 200% more resistant to any attacks and can pilladge any land tiles just by walking over them. They can move 3 tiles a turn.
Old Joe During the live stream they said the next DLC after this will include 2 new Civs and I'm almost positive Portugal will be added and led by Isabella because she was on the leaked leader photo. I'm unsure about the second one though. Persia maybe?
Too many people boo-hooing over who's NOT in the game so far. Come on people, we've never actually had Australia in the game, this is actually a really cool civ to add to the game! :D
Really? Another british colony before proper civilizations like the Persians, Turks or Mongols? I mean c'mon their coastal city bonuses would even be perfect to nations like Indonesia or the Polynesians.... Well I guess you gotta sell out to the bigger market areas... sigh...
They've all been represented multiple times in Civ. It's only fair another civilisation get a go. I mean, the Australian natives are the single longest surviving culture on earth. That's gotta count Plus, costal bonuses make sense for Australia as 85%+ of the population live within close proximity to the coast.
Turkey is a bigger market than Australia, Turks love these games (Moutain Blade comes from Turkey) they are just doing it because an Australian civ is new
Although it's good to have Australia finally get the recognition as it deserved as a proper civilization and nation that contribute to the growth of the world, Firaxis would have to think carefully before axing the old time favourite superpowers from the game, like Persia, Mongolia, the Inca, Maya, Netherlands, Portugal and so on. Hopefully with the likely inclusion of new civs in this game, I would love to see the Zapotec, the Blackfoot, Canada, Nigeria, Mexico and Malaysia in here.
Surprised Australia is the next Civilization. I like them being put in, though I do agree that there are some civilizations that should be added before them. In saying that, at least they are adding a civilization that is new to the series. Patience though people, they will surely add much desired civilizations though most likely in expansions rather then in these DLCs
omg. That Outback Station is OP. Food, production, and housing? And it gets even better with tech?! Who thought that was balanced? Edit: Oh, and it can be built on deserts. I missed that. Good thing that the Petra is a terrible wonder that is totally not worth building. >.>
Normally I would agree. Except this is after they nerfed production in the late game from factories. Any Civ-specific boost to production therefore puts you leagues ahead of every other Civ. Not to mention the housing and the fact that you can start making Food/Production triangles like you do farming triangles. Mark my words, if this improvement is not nerfed then Australia will probably be the most powerful faction in the game. Not just because of the production but also because of the housing since more housing means more of everything - including whatever district you need at the time.
I believe you should do one massive DLC next like a rave New World with a lot more of the traditional civilizations everyone wants, Netherlands, Ottomans, Persians, and Portugal are just necessary. Australia is a great add but we need the traditional civs first, Keep up the dlcs
+Andrew Gerges As long as we get the trad Civs eventually, that's all that matters. I don't know why everyone's so miffed about not getting them "first" when they know they'll be in the game sooner or later. People need to relax. 😑
Andrew Gerges During the live stream they said the next DLC after this will include 2 new Civs and I'm almost positive Portugal will be added and led by Isabella because she was on the leaked leader photo. I'm unsure about the second one though. Persia maybe?
so you put Australia a country that got 400 or 300 years of history and you don't put in Portugal that got more than 2000 years of history, and got a rich and vast impact on the expansion of the old continent influence, a country that achieve the first around the glob trip? or choose any other country or civilization that got at lest some achievement in history, the principle of the game is to build a civilization that endure time so pick something with at least 1000 year of existence, it would be appreciated. Aborigines got history, not Australians, Australians history is UK history
No major achievements. Not wifi, not the cranes used to build buildings, or the fact Australian aviationists made the first flight a decade before the Wright Brothers (as did many other nations), having several of the worlds most famous landmarks, having 300 years of our own history that's not British history. What's so wrong with Australia not being in. They've been passed over every other game. Portugal has been represented in every Civ game aside from 1 and 6.
in my opinion America shouldn't be here, divers Amerindians tribes could be, as aborigines could be too, ancient colonies are just a branch of the civilization that created them however the native people of those territory could be represented in this game (this is only according too me and it is not worth more than my opinion) (sorry for my bad English, i hope it's understandable)
All you guys complaining about not having the "big" civilizations... I like the idea of adding more versatile and interesting civs, as opposed to the generic ones. I feel like they're really taking good care into handpicking interesting and unique new civs. Besides, you can still play all the larger civs in Civ 5. Thumbs up from me, Firaxis!
Greeeeeeat another colonial empire. While the idea of Australia being playable is interesting and unexpected, it'd also be nice if the Aztec weren't the only Native Americans you could play as
Then perhaps they should be represented by a mechanic rather then by starting in the stone age. Actually honestly I wouldn't mind if it wasn't the third english speaking civ. 14% of all civs are english speaking now.
ChaoticHeretic I wasn't complaining about Australia's inclusion in particular, in fact I've thought they'd be interesting to implement since the Sydney opera house's inclusion in civ V; but instead criticizing the absence of civilizations that actually existed in the years the early turns represent. Civ V had a lot more Native American representation as a whole, having the Aztec and Iroquois in the base game with the Inca added in standalone DLC not long after, as well as the Maya and Shoshone being added in the two expansions. I'm not saying the game needs to be all about non colonial powers but I would really like to see more Native representation in the Americas from this iteration, i.e. there are more Native American civilizations besides the Aztec
+TheSenate09 Agreed. They need to add a few more Native American Civs. And, that being said, adding the Australian aboriginals as a separate Civ would be an excellent thing for them to do as well...
Lol. But all of those civs were already in like every civ game. This is literately the first time Australia has been in the game. In civ v there were more civs that weren't colonial or rather Europeans so idk why your are annoyed. Guess I should have complained on civ V about there being more non Colonial civs? Why don't you want the various tribes that were scattered across Europe? Wouldn't they also represent early civilization? The Goths? The Vandals? The Visigoths? Aren't they Natives too? ( Lets ignore that 'Native' americans came from Asia.) As a matter of fact, most civs in the other games were early civs.. And if you want more North American Civs, why not also want the Confederates?
its funny how australia's special ability is extra housing on coastal tiles, when australian real estate (especially in the large coastal metropolises) is the most expensive and considered to be the most unaffordable in the world.
seppafer but of course not! You have to pay for a DLC including 4 things! A leader, a unit, a unique tile improvement and a civ! Isn't that so much better?!?! 😇😇😇
All I see in the comments are people disagreeing with their choice to add Australia before other civilizations, and I can see where you're coming from, but Firaxis obviously wanted to spice up Civ VI with some never before seen civilizations before everyone's interest fades and that leads them to going back to civ V. But that's just my two cents.
Towerbooks3192 r u serious? U like him because that? ironic how he didn't stop spending... because that is worse. also slashing taxes would've had a similar effect.
Australia as a civ at last. thank you for finally adding them to the game. Even as an Aussie teaching me some history as well. while his name is familiar, I never knew who Curtin was.
that is a good point. after all theres about a hundred modern day nations in the world so it's only right that some of those get a spot in the lime light with the normal civs like the USA or romans
So does the US and England yet they are in this, I don't mind them mixing things up but why remove diverse civs in order to add in even more british colonies?
DAMN THESE GUYS ARE POWERFUL!!!!!! My complaint is not the addition of Australia as a civ, but that the fact that by Rights Australia should be running the world. Those bonuses for district placement are INSANE

No. It's summer in Australia right now.
Multiplayer teams! Finally! I can't wait! :D
Does this mean that there will be cross platform multiplayer?
The fact that Australia is in the game makes me think Canada will eventually be in this game as well.
So, no Czechoslovakia again.
Who would be an ideal leader for a Czechoslovakian civ?
Emperor of Holy Rome I don't think so, Vancouver and Toronto are already city states.
So was Sydney though.
Im up for Canada.

Kind of fucked up they added an Australian faction before an Emu faction tbh

Unique unit: Emu.

Extra housing in cities, eh?
Of course, the downside is that none of your citizens will be able to afford to live there.
Hahaha, and have fun moving to another more affordable "city" should yield negative amenities.

If America (only around since 1776) can be a Civ mainstay, then Australia sure as hell can be a Civ, too. Welcome to the fray, buddy...
Sure it is. But it is hardly a different civilization from that in Britain.
+RyM3ks
If that's the case then America is hardly a different civilisation from that of Britain as well.
It's our time to shine!
OMG John Curtin, Thank you so much for choosing him as the leader, so unbelievably happy right now ^_^
"Without having to make extra investment into housing"
This is joke right? They had to have known.
Nobody can afford to live in Australian cities anymore. That's the joke
A1ds On Wheels only rich cunts live in Australian cities.
Quite frankly one of the best places to live on earth. consistently has the highest human development, some of the most liveable cities on earth.punches far above it's weight in culture, sports, and science for a country of 23 million odd. probably one the most equitable democracies in human history.
and people are asking if it's a civilization?
Fuck no, any place with giant spider, spider rain, and web trees are never the best place anything.
And they have jorts...

- Great cities
- Great culture, sports and science
- Good food

Cons
- Spiders

- Deadly fur bears
Odd that people are pissed off at the inclusion of a (surprisingly) under-represented culture in video games. Doubly odd that they'd rather have a bunch of long-defeated and dead empires from antiquity than an interesting, modern nation that's never been in the game before.
Sometimes it's nice to have new Civs instead of the same old antiquated ones.
+Peeled Apples
People don't realize that as a developed, extensive, and influential country, Australia is a modern-day "empire" in every sense of the word. It doesn't matter that Australia is a younger civilization. What matters is the history they're CREATING.
Peeled Apples I mean, Aussies invented Wi-fi and the Cochlear implant (bionic ear).
Under-represented? Anglo-saxon culture is over-represented in videogames, i'd say.
Jesus, all of this hate for a new Civ in the comments because they're not the Mongols, Persians, or Turks

Who are in EVERY CIV GAME and will eventually be in this one too. 🙄 People sure love to bitch and whine!
And now that Persia is revealed they start bitching about something else.

Nah, I've seen a few being played. It's still pretty popular, even if it's not something you see everyday.

Years later, and this is still my favorite civilization. Australia was perfect as the first DLC pack.
Give us a fun "tall" civ. Something good for science or growth!

I guess New Zealand should be next. Bonus on Sheep tiles naturally.

Don't forget Venice. Venice was the most unique and one of the most enjoyable Civs in Civ V...
Andrew Gerges During the live stream they said the next DLC after this will include 2 new Civs and I'm almost positive Portugal will be added and led by Isabella because she was on the leaked leader photo. I'm unsure about the second one though. Persia maybe?
Kyle Sekenski I was sure I've forgotten one👍🏻
PancakePuppy Persia would be nice, but I would prefer the Netherlands, Persia was influential in ancient times, yet all its remnants are being destroyed by Isis, I like Netherlands because you can build tall cities and have a massive trading empire and wealth
Scotland would be nice
Australia FINALLY appears as a playable civ. I love it.
...I will say, though, that they make John Curtin look.........small.
O_O
I can't help but feel massively underwhelmed by this choice of second DLC. Was really looking forward to some of the big boys we're still missing like the Persians, Ottomans, Inca, Mongols, Mali, Netherlands, Indonesia... basically anyone else. For the second ever DLC this seems extremely uninteresting and unappealing.
George Sears couldnt agree more. This choice is absolutly dump. Every single City state influenced the world 10 times more than modern Australia..
George Sears blah blah we've seen so many times over. this is refreshing, or do you like the same civs being represented over and over
Michael Novotny Well, if I were making a video game about the Spanish Civil War I'd expect Francisco Franco's army to make an appearance before I brought in the Canadian foreign volunteers.
George Sears man probably they will add this big boys in a great dlc pack
First: Polan can into the space.
Then: Australia can into cultural bomb.
Next: Finland can into Civ 6? (Finland is soon 100 years old country)
Finland is also the only Axis country (not by choice mind you) to pay off its war debt.
You can into Hell.
Just want to clear it up for those who do not already know. *IT IS SUMMER IN AUSTRALIA RIGHT NOW*

Meady
What about shooting your British masters ?
You made me remember how dice chosed a cowboy instead of the Victor side everyone agrees defence was more impressive than the offense
Emus
Well now they are
As an Australian, they couldn't of chosen a damn better prime minister, or leader to represent us.
Aboriginals are also the longest surviving culture on Earth
Well, technically the Byzantine Empire is the Roman Empire, so its already represented.
Here's to the Aboriginals, the people who survived the land of abominations filled with huge spiders and toxic taipans and bull ants. GIVE THEM SOME CREDIT
Dutch, Portuguese, Thailand, Israel, Papal States, Carthage, Zulu, Mongols, Iroquois should be in it.
as a person who has played with Australia he is a fricken king if you play on an island map. coastal cities getting +4 housing (+1 from normal coast and +3 from ability), unique unit getting a buff near the coast (which is easy when the islands are small enough), and the Outback Stations providing both food and production (and more when connected) and Holy Sites, Theater Squares, and Commercial Hubs getting bonuses from high appeal tiles you will be set for the entire game.
Additional Civ power suggestion: +100% attack bonus from cities against Barbarian naval units. You could call it "Stop the Boats".
Special Unit: Bushman
This unit replaces the archer. +133% range and +75% damage, but 30% damage reduction and +600% damage taken from French units.
Canada - Coast to Coast
- Internal trade routes claim unconquered land tiles for Canada. They also provide +1 amenity to the destination city.(This is in reference to the Canadian Pacific Railway which was an integral part of unifying the nation during Confederation.)
Lester B. Pearson - Father of Peacekeeping
- After researching the “Political Philosophy” civic, Lester’s government permanently gains +1 slot for a diplomatic policy. Lester’s military units also gain bonus combat strength equal to the number of city-states he is the suzerain of. (Lester is one of the key members that founded the United Nations. He also served in both world wars and as Canada’s minister of foreign affairs.)
Trading Fort - Replaces the Encampment
- Provides +1 trade route capacity and culture bombs adjacent tiles. In later eras, they also provide culture and tourism. (Trading forts date back to when Canada was still a colony of european powers. They served as defensive fortifications and still exist today as either an impressive building or as a recreation of an original.)
Voyageur - Unique Recon unit
- Gains the portage promotion. With it, the unit can cross rivers without ending it’s turn and moving along a river requires half a movement point. (Voyagers were colonials that learned the ways of the Indigenous Canadians. They learned to use rivers to expedite the advance of the fur trade of North America.)
BlandPortfolio the usa also stretches from coast to coast it dosent fit canada specificly.
Now watch the video of Canada in Civ 6
THE OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE IS AUSTRALIA’S UNIQUE IMPROVEMENT
I’ve lived in Australia my whole life and I’ve never seen a Outback Steakhouse
i love firaxis for implementing an australian civ, because its nice to have earthmap match where every continent is inhabited.
Wow! This was a welcome surprise! Was not expecting a new dlc. :o
I, for one, am excited about Australia being added. Despite what a lot of people think, us Aussies have a very distinct culture and history, as well as being a key political factor for the Asia-Pacific region. Very nice to have that acknowledged and put into Civ VI.
Please fix your game first, before adding more content.
was just about to say the same. FIX YOUR SHIT BEFORE YOU ADD MORE SHIT!
THey are releasing a huge update soon. Balance changes, bug fixes, modding tools, steam workshop, mp teams, etc.

OAEY SHI' MATE, 'STRAYA FINALLY GOT NOTICED BY CIVILIZATION-SENPAI
Of course their unique trait is based on housing... the entire country and economy is in the middle of a huge housing bubble right now.
sickre Its probably because our coast is much more habitable than inland, due to the bowl kind of shape the landmass takes on.
Now the Ottomans are in Civ VI 🤷♂️
Unique Unit: The Emu's
Emu's can't attack other units, however they are 200% more resistant to any attacks and can pilladge any land tiles just by walking over them. They can move 3 tiles a turn.
I have no problem with aussies being a civilization in their fedoras, khe khm, as long as other historical majors are included.
Well I guess you gotta sell out to the bigger market areas... sigh...
Um the ones you've listed are veterans (except Turkey), gotta give countries that haven't been in a Civ game a chance man
Nathanael Eugene Ottomans is probably what he meant by Turks.
My point still stands (actually even better since Ottoman is in like 3 Civ games by now)
They've all been represented multiple times in Civ. It's only fair another civilisation get a go. I mean, the Australian natives are the single longest surviving culture on earth. That's gotta count
Plus, costal bonuses make sense for Australia as 85%+ of the population live within close proximity to the coast.
Hopefully with the likely inclusion of new civs in this game, I would love to see the Zapotec, the Blackfoot, Canada, Nigeria, Mexico and Malaysia in here.
waltzing Matilda is the theme, love it
Surprised Australia is the next Civilization. I like them being put in, though I do agree that there are some civilizations that should be added before them. In saying that, at least they are adding a civilization that is new to the series. Patience though people, they will surely add much desired civilizations though most likely in expansions rather then in these DLCs
I'm waiting for crocodile dundee mods for australia.
Is it true that Australia didn't develop archery for a hunting tool or a weapon?
maybe they can make a unique unit boomerang thrower instead
omg. That Outback Station is OP. Food, production, and housing? And it gets even better with tech?! Who thought that was balanced?
Edit: Oh, and it can be built on deserts. I missed that. Good thing that the Petra is a terrible wonder that is totally not worth building. >.>
+Andreas Fortunis
They seem to love giving most Civs an OP unique improvement in Civ VI, don't they? 😳
And you would expect the Crocodile Hunter to jump out and say, "Crikey!"
Nice can wait to try them
Was playing Australia last night and now I have Waltzing Matilda stuck in my head.

I believe you should do one massive DLC next like a rave New World with a lot more of the traditional civilizations everyone wants, Netherlands, Ottomans, Persians, and Portugal are just necessary. Australia is a great add but we need the traditional civs first, Keep up the dlcs
+Andrew Gerges
As long as we get the trad Civs eventually, that's all that matters.
I'd love a "Rave new world" dlc pack. It can feature the Skrillex Empire of doof doof
Bet you $100.00 that *Simon Bolivar* would be in CIV 6 before it's last DLC.
And Simon Bolivar makes it to the New Frontier Pass nearly 3 years alter
so you put Australia a country that got 400 or 300 years of history and you don't put in Portugal that got more than 2000 years of history, and got a rich and vast impact on the expansion of the old continent influence, a country that achieve the first around the glob trip? or choose any other country or civilization that got at lest some achievement in history, the principle of the game is to build a civilization that endure time so pick something with at least 1000 year of existence, it would be appreciated. Aborigines got history, not Australians, Australians history is UK history
You can play as Brazil in the meanwhile.
Or you can wait for the Angola expansion
No major achievements.
Not wifi, not the cranes used to build buildings, or the fact Australian aviationists made the first flight a decade before the Wright Brothers (as did many other nations), having several of the worlds most famous landmarks, having 300 years of our own history that's not British history.
What's so wrong with Australia not being in. They've been passed over every other game. Portugal has been represented in every Civ game aside from 1 and 6.
bliblivion So there shouldn't be America or Brazil? There are no double standards here, if America can be included, Australia can be included.
in my opinion America shouldn't be here, divers Amerindians tribes could be, as aborigines could be too, ancient colonies are just a branch of the civilization that created them however the native people of those territory could be represented in this game (this is only according too me and it is not worth more than my opinion) (sorry for my bad English, i hope it's understandable)
While the idea of Australia being playable is interesting and unexpected, it'd also be nice if the Aztec weren't the only Native Americans you could play as
Greeeeat, another person complaining. Most advancement in human history is thanks to the colonial empires...
+TheSenate09
Agreed.
Damn it now I'm obliged as an Australian to play as Australia
And now having watched the full video it seems like the perfect civ for me....
Where the fuck is John Howard?
Hopefully in a grave soon for fucking our country.
Oi. Taking the guns away was pretty cool of him.
No....
Fair call about the guns.
I agree, the one thing he did right was taking our guns away from irresponsible crack heads.
its funny how australia's special ability is extra housing on coastal tiles, when australian real estate (especially in the large coastal metropolises) is the most expensive and considered to be the most unaffordable in the world.
Mongolia creates the largest land empire in history but Australia fought in WW2 I see a clear victor.
Jay Feat Aussies cos we have guns lol
Jay Feat It's not a competition.
the British had the largest empire.

People complaining about this can take a long walk off a short pier tbh I've been waiting forever for a game to include Australia
What the leader of Australia isn't a kangaroo
Disappointed that they chose Waltzing Matilda and not the Bunnings Warehouse Jingle, but otherwise awesome.
Please don't make us pay $5 for a single civ again
seppafer but of course not! You have to pay for a DLC including 4 things! A leader, a unit, a unique tile improvement and a civ!
Isn't that so much better?!?! 😇😇😇
Sondre Bol no no its not dumbass
Waltzing Matilda as their theme? I gotta hear the future version of that! XD
australia is civilization? wtf?
LeoWEST its a nation, so yes, it is
LeoWEST ikr, next they'll be adding Antarctica
Maquabra I haven't seen such an ignorant in a wile
We do play America which is pretty much a washed british remain lol no problem on having nations.
Maquabra do you actually know what a colony is?
This music is spot on for us Australians as our leaders were actually thinking of changing our national anthem to waltzing Matilda
Advance Australia Fair was a mistake. It should've been God Bless Australia, far better words and the tune of Waltzing Matilda.
Really want Netherlands next!!
Netherlands confirmed
All I see in the comments are people disagreeing with their choice to add Australia before other civilizations, and I can see where you're coming from, but Firaxis obviously wanted to spice up Civ VI with some never before seen civilizations before everyone's interest fades and that leads them to going back to civ V. But that's just my two cents.
Relax people! We have a new thing don't ask them to to add the entire world every time they release something!!
we finally did it!!! we mad with back into civ
But but.... Kevin Rudd! he saved us from the Global Financial Crisis. Oh well. I'm happy Australia got to be in it.
Kevin 707
Towerbooks3192 r u serious? U like him because that? ironic how he didn't stop spending... because that is worse. also slashing taxes would've had a similar effect.
I like how you shit on Kevin for his spending yet Liberals have outspent them and doubled the deficit in 4 years.
I find it quite entertaining that this is now a debate over politics.
We should have Malcum Turncoat, play your hardest to bring Australia into the New World Order lol
Australia as a civ at last. thank you for finally adding them to the game. Even as an Aussie teaching me some history as well. while his name is familiar, I never knew who Curtin was.
Where is Persia? Mongols? Turks? How the fuck is Australia a DLC priority.
Dale Oi fuck off ya wankah
Because Australia has never been represented in Civ before. Those all have multiple times.
It's only fair they get a go
SuperPlemons And Australia's impact on the world is what exactly?
that is a good point. after all theres about a hundred modern day nations in the world so it's only right that some of those get a spot in the lime light with the normal civs like the USA or romans
So does the US and England yet they are in this, I don't mind them mixing things up but why remove diverse civs in order to add in even more british colonies?
Will there be a disadvantage when fighting emu's
G'day, cobber!
Kerath Oi! ya bloody drongo! How's the Sheila!?
DAMN THESE GUYS ARE POWERFUL!!!!!! My complaint is not the addition of Australia as a civ, but that the fact that by Rights Australia should be running the world. Those bonuses for district placement are INSANE
I wish they would add a Native American tribe like the Navajo. I miss the many Indian tribes from civ 5
Fun fact: If Australia gets the wine resource, they instantly destroy it.
Cool!
is there a set date to this update? all we know is it will come "soon" and seeing as it said "Australia summer update" it will be "soon" in the summer.
