Agreed. First time in over 30-years I've thought of going to a Mac!! I have this same issue that Microsoft created through a Windows 10 update! On their own, without my permission. Bastages....
Thanks for the guide. This is why I'm never using OneDrive ever again because it likes to move your files around and then when you get fed up with it and uninstall it the problems just don't stop. It stole my files and several of the library folders so for a while now I've had like 3 different pictures folder some how. Its so cancerous.
Windows 11 here. There is not a location tab anymore. I feel like this is a virus. One Drive has taken over my computer. My documents and desktop folder now go straight to a shortcut to the One Drive file version of them. No way of getting around this. I have tried everything I can find online. Cannot fix this problem. I am going to lose my mind. I have been working on this for 9 hours + !!!!!!!!!
Microsoft really doesn't want users escaping onedrive hostage-taking. I work with confidential information, typically on my desktop. It is not to be stored elsewhere.
Why is this even a thing in the first place? I had broken apps not working because of this issue, as those apps cannot write to the cloud, breaking the installation. Spent 3 hours trying everything and ended it with a big facepalm when I realised the data folder was generated on OneDrive, completely empty.
Why did I see this just now?! I've been figuring things out and it took me a week before actually making things default after uninstalling my OneDrive. OneDrive stressed me so much!
God somebody please help me, I don't have a little one drive cloud icon in the bottom right corner, and can't access the one drive settings no matter what I do. Please please help me
If you have removed the OneDrive client from your PC, you can try to reinstall it and then go through the process again. This is an updated video of the process by the way. ua-cam.com/video/eGxtK5WxiLA/v-deo.html
Have you tried this on the latest versions of Windows 11? One of my friends stopped backups and uninstalled this insidious OneDrive app from their computer. Now when we follow these steps to return the folder structure back to normal (i.e. out of OneDrive). we can't change the path. So we went to remove the files from the OneDrive Documents folder and to paste them into the real document folder. We got the error message 0x8007016A cloud file provider is not running. Any thoughts on this? Nothing in the help forums is helpful. This is one messy program. Should be an opt-in not a something that hijacks our folder structure and puts things in the cloud. If I want files in the cloud, I will put them there myself. Microsoft did a real poor implementation of a very unpopular service. I remember in the old days OneDrive was horrible and now it is pure evil. Any ideas, short of a clean reinstall, of fixing this problem with this error code?
When you moved your files from OneDrive to correct user folder, yours only took one second. Mine is taking like four hours, even though they're set to "free up space". And that's just the little Documents folder. I will need to do this to Music and other folders. Is this right?
The computer used for this video was a test computer with a small number of files but either way, it shouldn't take 4 hours if you don't have that many files. If you right click the original documents folder and go to properties, what is the folder size and file count?
@@OnlineComputerTips It actually took about 3 hrs...16GB and 6k files. But other folders will have more, and won't fit on my C drive all at once. Also, I got a warning from OneDrive "Remove files from OneDrive?" Do I click Remove or Restore or ignore the message? I don't want to have to re-upload everything afterwards if I don't have to. thanks

That is a trick I missed . I could not even get onedrive to stop working in Win 10 after watching many vids on how to do it . What I ended up doing is unlinking the account which did not help so I went to a cmd prompt from the Windows boot disk and deleted any reference to onedrive on the hard drive by issuing the command from the root of C: drive del *onedrive* /s . After that , back in Windows , I opened regedit and deleted everything that referenced onedrive out of the registry . There are a few you cannot delete but there are three in the registry that dictate the path to onedrive and they are Document Pictures and Desktop . What I did was edit the path to C:\users\YOU\folder, where you is your name and folder is one of the three depending on which folder is indicated in the link . You will have to move your files in the folders onedrive like is shown in this video . Now my games work and the folders are correct and my links work . What a pain it was and took many hours of research to get it done . The only thing I can compare this to is tabtip.exe and the handwriting panel in win 7 which constantly interfered with your wacom drawing tablet . Thanks for the share . Most of the instructions do not work on how to remove onedrive in the UA-cam vids. So good luck. Thanks for the share. :O)

but there is no location option on mine please help
It worked for me with the Documents folder only. I don't understand why it didn't work for Pictures.
yeah, same for me, i uninstalled onedrive apps and nothing change, the picture folder is still on OneDrive path 😭 i can not restore Picture Folder path to default.
I moved after uninstall onedrive, some got errors but fixed. Onedrive is really trash and system maybe broken
I'm sorry but who in the right mind created this? all I did was create a backup and now ALL of my filepaths are screwed up. F onedrive! THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR VIDEO IT SAVED THE DAY!
Did you check out the updated video link in the description?
Microsoft really doesn't want users escaping onedrive hostage-taking. I work with confidential information, typically on my desktop. It is not to be stored elsewhere.
it comes up with error about parent to child and invalad plz help?
Thank you. I wish MS would stop doing this in the first place. loads of people have lost documents.
This was very helpful. Thank you :)
You saved me, thanks!
Helpful. Thank you!

Seems like in the latest Win 11 its almost impossible to stop backups to one drive. New unintuitive confusing app with no stop backup button!
@@OnlineComputerTips
It actually took about 3 hrs...16GB and 6k files. But other folders will have more, and won't fit on my C drive all at once. Also, I got a warning from OneDrive "Remove files from OneDrive?" Do I click Remove or Restore or ignore the message? I don't want to have to re-upload everything afterwards if I don't have to.
thanks
@@ogdensh Are you still planning on using OneDrive? If you use the client and log in, I would think it would put everything back to the OneDrive folder on your PC and negate everything you are doing. But if you are going to still use OneDrive without syncing to your PC then I wouldn't think you would click on Remove and am not sure what Restore would do but if you can ignore it then that might be your best bet.
Fantastic, I was having this exact problem and this fixed it - thanks.
Thanks for the explanation but once you stop One Drive from backing up your documents and have your document folder set, how can you easily access it without having to go through several links to get to it? Is there a way to get it under Quick Access?
You can right click on any folder and choose pin to quick access to have it added to your list.
@@OnlineComputerTips Thanks. That was easy.
@@OnlineComputerTips OK, so that was easy but now every time I try and access that folder, it brings up my old folder with all my files that had been save to the cloud. I have no clue how to find the new Documents folder that I created with everything I only want saved to my computer. Windows 11 is not being very user friendly.
@@asheryl1966 I'm not following you but if you are looking to change the default folder of your documents etc. you can try this.

Thanks for the video. Just getting my head around OneDrive! So by doing what you have demonstrated will docs etc now be on local drive (pc) and still saving to OneDrive as backup in case pc goes down? So what I want to do is work with local drive and have certain files backed up to Onedrive automatically.I am just setting up new pc and have found the OneDrive “taking over” such a pain and if you delete from OneDrive that’s it!
I cant readdress it??
Thanks 🙏🏼 I was about to rip my hair out trying to get my documents folder back
Is there a service that helps people repair their file structure and get rid of OneDrive?
Unfortunately Microsoft doesn't seem to care that OneDrive takes over your computer and that's most likely their goal so they leave it up to you to figure out how to fix it or find someone who can!
very helpful, thank you!
aaaah I finally found a good tutorial! 😅 Big Thanks, this finally worked for me 🎉
Thank you so much!
Somehow I was having this problem but I didn't even have onedrive installed, NOR DID I EVEN HAVE BACKUP ENABLED. So I had to go install one drive, turn on backup, and then immediately turn it off. This kind of sh!t makes me really despise Windows and Microsoft in general and makes me want to just fully switch over to linux. I probably would if gaming wasn't such a disaster.
