Well technically aldrich probably does know who the nameless king is through the use of dreams because his dreams allow him to peer into the memories and knowledge of those he devours. Hence, this is why he was able to use the lifehunt scythe as he dreamt of it (which sounds weird but dark souls logic).

Also, this religion also spread the lie that the undead curse was caused by the humans’ Dark Souls. Let’s not forget, the humans who helped Gwyn in the war against the dragons were imprisoned in the Ringed City and were erased from history. And the only prosperous human cities profited Gwyn, such as Oolacile with its light magic. Gwyn and the gods kept humanity under their thumbs through their religion and propaganda, even to the point where they have humans sacrificing themselves to preserve the age of fire, the very thing keeping them imprisoned. @Sheev Palpatine That's a point of view. From my point of view the dark souls is the essence of humanity, and he ruined the world by trying to force humanity to ignore themselves. We can't be sure at this point if the crasyness of the hollowing state came from the dark soul or from the curse negating it. But from my point of view Gwyn was just scared to imagine a world where he wouldn't be the center of everything anymore he refused to admit that world could continue whitout him and waged a war against the natural course of change which allowed him to get the throne in the first place. He basically denied the chance of humans their turn at ruling the world. All of that while pretending that it was for their own good.

honestly the saddest bit of this for me personally is after NK killed Aldrich, walking towards the camera before turning towards the spot he killed him, for a moment. It looked like he was mourning his lost brother.

Smough simply got eaten by Aldrich (you can purchase Smoughs Equipment from the Shrine handmaiden after destroying Aldrich).

Its actually implied that she fled before all this came to pass meaning we could still get a DS4 that was created out of the Painting of the Dark Soul. I know this is just the AI, but during the first stage, Nameless seems to be hitting the back end of Aldrich, almost as if he still wishes to save Gwyndolin or at least his body, and then during the second half, he realizes that there's nothing left to save and begins to hit Gwyndolins body, either to put him out of mercy, or because he realizes it hurts Aldrich more.
I always got Chad King vibes from him with him literally gate keeping most dark souls players through out the years(not that I like sans or anything, but I always did think of him playing that role of gate keeping until you learn his pattern after you train years in the Shaolin Peaks to find the strat, except Nameless king came first)

I like how Nameless King just goes absolutely ham in this Boss vs Boss, unlike most BvB where he'd just edgewalk around and tank damage. Really tells us the emotions hes going through when he fought Aldrich
He may have been exiled, but I imagine he'd still care about his little brother and would probably have done something like this if he found out what happened.
At his point DS3 is just turning into a fighting simulator where we can't play the best characters. Honestly it kinda always was but this just drives it home.
I also like how his 'edge walking' whenever Aldrich hides in the floor feels more like agitated pacing. 'Show yourself, monster.' He seems to mutter to himself through clenched teeth.
i would have loved an option to some how trigger this in game. just seems so right. like if you could reach name less before aldrich and maybe drop some important item infront of the fog dooe. leave reload. and then travel to the city and find it up in flames. dragons fighting dogs, lizard men fighting knights. and all the way at the end you see nameless kill Aldrich.
The best thing about this is that throughout the entire fight NK never intentionally swings at Gwyndolin. He always aims at the tentacle holding Gwyndolin's body, as if he's trying to free his little brother from Aldrich's grasp.
Aldrich literally only did the arrow storm twice in that whole fight and still almost killed NK. Goes to show how much of a pain in the ass Aldrich really is.

1: It's really cool they stayed near the statues of Gwyn and Gwynevere considering Nameless King is the first born of Gywn and whose statue to the left of Gwyn was removed, yet there hes is, and that Aldritch consumed/is consuming Gwyndolin. Makes for a stunning and lore heavy fever dream come true lol. 2: The best part of the fight was when Aldritch stunlocked Nameless three times in a row, leveling the playing field, and suddenly turning it from a slaughter from Nameless to an edge-of-your-seat, neck-and-neck, white-knuckles fight. 11/10
This video made me realise that the nameless king would be a protagonist in any other game series. Think about it. a man in a dying world, fighting to right his father's sin and free humanity. But this is dark souls. There is no redemption. No saving this world. Only the end awaits.

How about to make the siege on Lothric castle by the dark wraiths, and they are opposed by footmans and knights? You can hold a series of fights as they break through to the Twin princes. This will be a good experience in staging fights with a small plot.
I like to imagine a scene where nameless hears of how his fembro and home were usurped by Aldrich and he finally leaves arch dragon peak after untold years to avenge his family. That vision just oozes badassness
This is a really sad fight if you think about it. The exhiled son coming back to his dead father's kingdom to fight the remmainings of what once was his brother near the room were his sister used to live... Or the illusion of her
The reason he stays still if you wish to know is because his AI has him go as far away from the player as he can. But as the NK is not a player his AI is just like “I’ll stay here”
Or, if we want to try and make this not technical, Gwyndolin recognizes his brother and is attempting to stop Aldritch at all costs, even if it means sacrificing his own life, so he weakens Aldritch’s ability to teleport, thus allowing Gwynsen to attack and free Gwyndolin from this torture.
Yea the arrows far more than one shoot the player many times over. But a boss like the nameless king won't make an effort to dodge them. So it's caus of that heavy dps attack he stood a chance. Basically the entire win is dependent on RNG of how much Aldrich uses the arrows.

My favorite part of the battle has always been when he 1: Casts the Arrows, then: casts a million little blue magic orbs, then: proceeds, while I am still running, to spam a couple soul spears my way and when the arrow attack is almost out and I have no stamina left from all the running, he performs that awful, awkwardly tracking melee attack of his that on it´s own mightnotbesobadbutduringallthatchaoscomescompletelyoutofleftfieldand ALWAYS manages to hit me in short... a very fun boss

Heart wreathed in a fierce storm, the Nameless King, after ridding the once mighty citadel of the gods of the cursed zealots of the Deep, marched to the great hall, only to witness the Devourer finish consuming the last of his remaining family. The storm within burst out around him, cleansing the filth around his feet. His swordspear hefted beside him, he looked upon the twisted parody that was his brother's body merged with the creature beneath. Aldrich’s AI doesn’t detect correctly the Nameless during the teleport move, if it did he would teleport to the other side of the arena and Aldrich would easily win using arrows instead of melee attacks
Another comment said that Aldrich’s teleportation AI works by teleporting the furthest away from the player. But due to the fact that Nameless is not a player, his AI teleports back to his original spot. But if you don’t want to get technical and look from it lore wise, you could see it as whatever was left of Gwyndolin interfering with Aldrich to let his elder brother finish him off and free his soul from Aldrich.
Nameless king - “I’ve come to avenge my brother” Aldrich - “your brother weak and feeble. I devoured him easily. So shall it be with you”. Nameless king - “ by the strength of the everlasting dragons, you will die by my spear”

Even with Gwyn gone to burn eternally with his precious flame and Gwynevere fled to her new kingdom with her new husband... he never dreamed the place would be this empty. This *dark.* The city of sunlight, now a tattered moldering ruin, stained with dregs of the Abyss. Even Smough and Ornstein--what had become of his old friend now, he wondered--weren't at their usual posts. And at the end of the hall, Gwyndolin--faithful, anxious, *dear* Gwyndolin--sagged lifelessly atop a current of foul black rot. A cruel mockery of the once beloved Dark Sun. The Nameless King drew his sword. The lightning that danced across it was the only light in the room.
A weapon art that sprays the area in front of you instead of tracking would be cool and probably not broken. Might need to take a lot of FP and require moonlight arrows to balance it.
I like how NK fought aldrich, like he is on rage because to avenge his brother, moreover, those walking and look behind after defeating aldrich is badass

The silver knights who long ago fought along side him fell to his swordspear, and when he finally faced Aldrich, he held no mercy in his heart as the lighting on his spear lit up once more. This would not be a fight, this would be a slaughter. For one or the other.
The Nameless King returns to Anor Londo after age passed to find it ruined and decrepit, Gwyndolin's illusions broken. He crosses the entrance hall, cutting down the lesser deacons on his way to find any of his kin, only to find his brother half-consumed by the beastly devourer Aldrich. Furious, he charges the Lord of Cinder and unleashes all that he, as a god of war, can wrought... The only thing to slow him- his brother's moonlight arrows.

You know what is really sad? Aldritch doesn't have a cutscene, and for his lore and circunstances of the fight itself it needed a cutscene. Imagine entering the old hall of Ornstein & Smough and through the goo a black fog rises, the head of Gwyndolyn emerges, and closing on his body you notice what seems to be Nito's cloak, and a giant mass of bones and meat underneat it all. That my lads, would be epic!
Yep, having him just spawn in the same point was like have a meatbag ready for the NK, I'm sure that if Aldrich just spams the arrows, NK would've died in the first 2 minutes

Even in the correct boss room, Aldrich was warping in place leaving himself open rather than making the enemy give chase (which would mean KotSA Nameless would have to slow walk like an idiot at him before eating more scythes and arrows increasing the odds he just jobs like the rest of his family in life).

honestly the saddest bit of this for me personally is after NK killed Aldrich, walking towards the camera before turning towards the spot he killed him, for a moment. It looked like he was mourning his lost brother.
i think there was audio or sub that after you killed Aldrich, Gwyndolin would say "Freedom, at last" or something similar.

@@Kaliskot Ornstein left Anor Londo after or during the Events of Dark Souls 1 (ppl assume the Ornstein u fight is part of Gwyndolins illusion arround Anor Londo) and headed up to Archdragon Peak, to meet his former Lord/Friend Faraam (not stated as the Nameless Kings true name, but close to it) - as you can find Ornsteins Equipment in the Nameless Kings temple. Smough simply got eaten by Aldrich (you can purchase Smoughs Equipment from the Shrine handmaiden after destroying Aldrich).

Its actually implied that she fled before all this came to pass meaning we could still get a DS4 that was created out of the Painting of the Dark Soul. I know this is just the AI, but during the first stage, Nameless seems to be hitting the back end of Aldrich, almost as if he still wishes to save Gwyndolin or at least his body, and then during the second half, he realizes that there's nothing left to save and begins to hit Gwyndolins body, either to put him out of mercy, or because he realizes it hurts Aldrich more.
I'm really liking the head cannon of the nameless king being the main character of DSIII that this channel is enabling me to create.
I always got Chad King vibes from him with him literally gate keeping most dark souls players through out the years(not that I like sans or anything, but I always did think of him playing that role of gate keeping until you learn his pattern after you train years in the Shaolin Peaks to find the strat, except Nameless king came first)

The best thing about this is that throughout the entire fight NK never intentionally swings at Gwyndolin. He always aims at the tentacle holding Gwyndolin's body, as if he's trying to free his little brother from Aldrich's grasp.
Maybe the dev of dark souls have made some secret in boss vs boss
And when the second phase kicks, he realizes his brother is long gone or at worst he's part of Aldrich now. So he has to put hm out of his misery.

1: It's really cool they stayed near the statues of Gwyn and Gwynevere considering Nameless King is the first born of Gywn and whose statue to the left of Gwyn was removed, yet there hes is, and that Aldritch consumed/is consuming Gwyndolin. Makes for a stunning and lore heavy fever dream come true lol.
2: The best part of the fight was when Aldritch stunlocked Nameless three times in a row, leveling the playing field, and suddenly turning it from a slaughter from Nameless to an edge-of-your-seat, neck-and-neck, white-knuckles fight.

This video made me realise that the nameless king would be a protagonist in any other game series. Think about it. a man in a dying world, fighting to right his father's sin and free humanity.
But this is dark souls. There is no redemption. No saving this world. Only the end awaits.

The reason he stays still if you wish to know is because his AI has him go as far away from the player as he can. But as the NK is not a player his AI is just like “I’ll stay here”

Or, if we want to try and make this not technical, Gwyndolin recognizes his brother and is attempting to stop Aldritch at all costs, even if it means sacrificing his own life, so he weakens Aldritch’s ability to teleport, thus allowing Gwynsen to attack and free Gwyndolin from this torture.
That was a lot closer than I thought.

Yea the arrows far more than one shoot the player many times over. But a boss like the nameless king won't make an effort to dodge them. So it's caus of that heavy dps attack he stood a chance. Basically the entire win is dependent on RNG of how much Aldrich uses the arrows.
@@mule2081 Plus, Aldritch is weak to lightning as well, so the damage just stacks high against Aldritch. The arrows and Magic orbs are his saving grace.

My favorite part of the battle has always been when he
1: Casts the Arrows,
then: casts a million little blue magic orbs,
then: proceeds, while I am still running, to spam a couple soul spears my way and when the arrow attack is almost out and I have no stamina left from all the running, he performs that awful, awkwardly tracking melee attack of his that on it´s own mightnotbesobadbutduringallthatchaoscomescompletelyoutofleftfieldand ALWAYS manages to hit me

In an alternate timeline where Aldrich and the King were not felled by the Ashen One, where the aforementioned Firstborn of Gwyn found the resolve to return to his home after honouring his father's wish for so long.
With the return and passing (in some way or another) of Ornstein, his old brother-in-arms, the Nameless is left a wayward protector of the Dragons.
He heard tell once that his father had departed long ago and never returned. Nevertheless, the possibility of the return of his godly sire, and his own honour, kept him from feeling tempted to return home, to his beloved siblings and comrades.
But when word came about that peril befell them, he seized his swordspear and ventured homeward.
The desolation that stood before him elevated his wrath. Smough cannibalised, Yorshka imprisoned, the cathedral submerged in the Devourer's filth. It was fortunate at least that Gwynevere, Havel and Filianore were long gone and the Giant Blacksmith long dead.
Heart wreathed in a fierce storm, the Nameless King, after ridding the once mighty citadel of the gods of the cursed zealots of the Deep, marched to the great hall, only to witness the Devourer finish consuming the last of his remaining family.
The storm within burst out around him, cleansing the filth around his feet. His swordspear hefted beside him, he looked upon the twisted parody that was his brother's body merged with the creature beneath.
"Thou sought to consume the House of Gwyn," he growled, "yet one remaineth still."
Forsaken or not, he would avenge his family.
"You devoured the last of my family...

Aldrich’s AI doesn’t detect correctly the Nameless during the teleport move, if it did he would teleport to the other side of the arena and Aldrich would easily win using arrows instead of melee attacks

Another comment said that Aldrich’s teleportation AI works by teleporting the furthest away from the player. But due to the fact that Nameless is not a player, his AI teleports back to his original spot.
But if you don’t want to get technical and look from it lore wise, you could see it as whatever was left of Gwyndolin interfering with Aldrich to let his elder brother finish him off and free his soul from Aldrich.
3:36 the way he did lightning stake right as he was teleporting felt so cool and satisfying.

Let the rest of his family remain in their gilded mausoleum, growing fat and content on offerings from their worshippers, never concerning themselves with the kingdoms and creatures beyond.
Even with Gwyn gone to burn eternally with his precious flame and Gwynevere fled to her new kingdom with her new husband... he never dreamed the place would be this empty. This *dark.* The city of sunlight, now a tattered moldering ruin, stained with dregs of the Abyss. Even Smough and Ornstein--what had become of his old friend now, he wondered--weren't at their usual posts.
And at the end of the hall, Gwyndolin--faithful, anxious, *dear* Gwyndolin--sagged lifelessly atop a current of foul black rot. A cruel mockery of the once beloved Dark Sun.
The Nameless King drew his sword. The lightning that danced across it was the only light in the room.
I've never seen NK so aggressive before. This fits perfectly.
Aldrich: "Oh, another divinity has come for me to snack on."
NK: "Bitch I'm the whole meal!"
"Brother, what has become of you?"

A weapon art that sprays the area in front of you instead of tracking would be cool and probably not broken. Might need to take a lot of FP and require moonlight arrows to balance it.

Enraged, the War God himself, Farram, charged through the doors of Anor Londo. The silver knights who long ago fought along side him fell to his swordspear, and when he finally faced Aldrich, he held no mercy in his heart as the lighting on his spear lit up once more.
This would not be a fight, this would be a slaughter. For one or the other.

He crosses the entrance hall, cutting down the lesser deacons on his way to find any of his kin, only to find his brother half-consumed by the beastly devourer Aldrich. Furious, he charges the Lord of Cinder and unleashes all that he, as a god of war, can wrought... The only thing to slow him- his brother's moonlight arrows.

You know what is really sad? Aldritch doesn't have a cutscene, and for his lore and circunstances of the fight itself it needed a cutscene. Imagine entering the old hall of Ornstein & Smough and through the goo a black fog rises, the head of Gwyndolyn emerges, and closing on his body you notice what seems to be Nito's cloak, and a giant mass of bones and meat underneat it all. That my lads, would be epic!
Nameless King: My brother was always a "Strange one" yes, but that gives no one the right to steal his body and use it as a meat puppet.

Even in the correct boss room, Aldrich was warping in place leaving himself open rather than making the enemy give chase (which would mean KotSA Nameless would have to slow walk like an idiot at him before eating more scythes and arrows increasing the odds he just jobs like the rest of his family in life).
