A video wherein I explain how to display comic books using J-Channel. To use this technique to display graded comics, watch this video second: • Displaying Comics Usin...
EXACTLY what I've been looking for. We don't use our dining room so I'm making it into my office / comic / collectible display room. This is sooooo simple. The before and after at the end of the video is way better. The J-channels make it look so clean. I appreciate the measurements you provided, that will save me some time when installing them.
Just did this following your perfect instructions and it looks amazing. I can't thank you enough for doing this video. Now my comics can take their rightful place - on the Wall of Justice. :)
This is incredibly helpful. As a kid, I used to occasionally get comics from a Galaxy store in Mount Pleasant, which was one of the closest stores within an hour and a half from home. Maybe you're related!
That was my store, too. We opened it with The Stadium. We did the comic half and they did the sports card half. After a couple years I sold the Galaxy half to The Stadium. I think he ended up selling it to the kid he had running it but I don't know for sure. I know it's been gone forever.
Just realized that this is the video a buddy of mine recommended to me to watch to get an idea for displaying my graded books. Just want to let you know that they work like a charm and display the books beautifully. I do keep that room pretty well blacked out when I'm not in there to reduce damage from UV rays. Anyway, great idea, thanks again!
THIS!!! my LCBS used F channel so i went to look at it and thought he mustve been mistaken, hes using a U-Channel... but i saw J-channel and thought this is perfect. i googled how to hang comics using j-channel and your video came up in the google searches as the top choice... TY, even 5 yrs after you posted it, its still helping people out.
I have a few comic books and would really love to start collecting, but I know that I'd need a plan on how to store them. This video is really helpful tysm! 😊
Outstanding Video... Figuring out how to do the J-Channels with the agility to remove the comics (Top Loaders) from the J-Channel, I didn't think about using 2 different size J-Channels and adding 5\8's to the final measurement. Thank you!!!!!!!
Hey Scott store looks great this is Curt your customer that's always sick that you mailed me the Batman books all the time. I just wanted to tell you the store is looking really good I think I might come in there next time when I go to the pain doctor and copy your stencil so I have the right size because I think I'm going to do that to my wall I want the one that I can take them in and out to the top with top loaders. Okay buddy again the store looks really good hope you have a great New Year
I guess im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my account password. I would love any assistance you can offer me!
@Jay Armando thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thanks for posting. This is exactly what I was looking for to display comics in our shop. What I was imagining was going to be a lot more complicated and probably much more expensive. The J-channel is the way to go!
I love it! It's not great for the new CGC cases (they are a little too thick) but it's awesome for top loaders or even just books in Mylar with backing boards.
I almost did the J channel (it certainly would have been cheaper than what I did. But I didnt want to only be able to do slab or raw (I wanted to mix it up). I just subbed you up
Cut the corners at 45 degrees (90 degree corners of course) and you can butt the ends together. Would look a little cleaner. I love the use of J channel though.
J channel is great for ungraded comics. I tried this for graded comics and it really wasn’t strong enough. I wasn’t comfortable with the j channel. Thanks for sharing
I never really had a problem with graded comics other than the thick CGC cases not fitting. We have a whole row of regular CGC books displayed this way. I just use a lot of screws.
Very nice, but why not just a bottom row of j-channel and let the top of the slab lean against the wall? Does the j-channel not stick out from the wall far enough to lean it?
GREAT Video!!!, I also stop by three of my local Home Depot in southern california and was unable to find the vinyl siding j channel. Would you still have the part number for the j channel. Thank!!!
Unfortunately, right now, probably nowhere. Comic top-loaders have basically been out of stock from most distributors for the better part of a year. The last time we sold them they retailed for $2.50 each and now I think people are selling them on Amazon and Ebay for $5-6 each. All we can do is wait for things to get somewhat back to normal and HOPEFULLY they will become available again early next year.
Although, you're not dealing with a lot weight. You should anchor into a stud or use some kind of wall anchor. Because, you're not getting a good anchor point just screwing into drywall.
I was wondering if you could help me out a bit. I went to my local Home Depot but couldn't find it anywhere. What section exactly can I find it at? Thank you.
I cant find this J-Channel are Home depot or Lowes, even when I show them what I'm looking for they don't know what I'm talking about and they don't stock it; at least in my area in Northern San Diego County. No store, in a 100 mile radius, has this Vinyl J-Channel. :( Really wanted to do this too. I'm building a comic store and looking for ways to display comics that wont break the bank before I even open, lol. Nice shop btw.
That's really odd. It should be right in the aisle with the siding stuff. It comes in 12' pieces and there should be a section where it's all standing on end. I guess ask them where the vinyl siding is and see if you can find it there. It's not rare, lol. It's the piece you need for the corner of a house when you are installing vinyl siding so any place that sells siding should sell J-channel. Good luck. :)
@@GalaxyComicsSaginaw Thank you for the reply. Yea, I asked multiple people at 2 different lowe's by me. They don't stock it anymore and I had to order it online. I found an alternative using aluminum J-Channel, it costs about the same but it isn't wide enough for CGC's, it fits Top Loaders perfectly tho, and I wouldn't have thought of it had I not seen your video :)
@@GalaxyComicsSaginaw the comic or the board would warp? Whats the Difference of placing your comic standing in J Channel vs Long/short box in standing position?
@@mufasa1982 In a comic box there are other books in there and they are packed relatively tight. At least to the point they can't lean and therefore bend. With the J-channel, the books are not being held tight. There is a little bit of wiggle room. I guess if you used something like a full-back board they would be okay but with a thinner board if the book is leaning forward the book could eventually sag or bend forward over time. Maybe not. I just know that with the top loader they CAN'T bend and I personally think they look better just because the spacing is completely uniform.
Thanks for the info! Do you happen to have the barcode numbers that Home Depot puts on everything for the 1/2” and 3/4” pieces? Can’t find it on their website and the local store would need to order. Thanks! Would be a great reference if available.
You don't need top loaders. When I did it originally I just used bags and boards. I did use Mylites and halfbacks because they are a little more stiff and have the UV protection but just using bags and boards would work. Maybe use 2-3 backing boards with each book?
@@GalaxyComicsSaginaw my comic book Room won’t have any windows in it and it will be well ventilated I’m Definitely Gonna Display my key issues I just picked up edge of spider verse #2 first appearance of Spider Gwen at my local comic book store for $4

If you are worried about it don't do it. I just keep the books away from windows and fluorescent lights. Some of the books I have on the back wall of the store have been up for over three years (in Mylar sleeves) with no noticeable fading.
I suppose. But it's 100x easier to cut the plastic with a saw than a knife. And I've built dozens of shelving units out of 2x4 for this place and after a while you get tired of having to stop and recharge the battery halfway through every project. I plug in this $30 drill and I can build 50 shelves in a row without stopping.
I've been looking for several ways of displaying my comics and this one totally nailed it. Thanks for sharing the whole mounting process. You rock !!!

Just wanted to say thanks for this. Got them put up to display my Cgc books. Works great!

Awesome video Scott, thanks for making it
Absolutely love it. Looks amazing
Looks great! Thanks for the tips!
This looks great and it's so much more affordable than buying custom frames!
This is brilliant. Thanks for taking the time to share it.
Glad you liked it!
That was awesome thanks for sharing! Great store by the way!
Thank you for posting this. It was very helpful.
Nice work - looks much better than snap-its, which I've always thought were a bit sketchy.
thank you sir, appreciate the great idea, looks like I'm heading to Lowes tomorrow

This was great insight! Great video!
Thanks for a great video I will be doing the same thing in my shop as I think the display is fantastic 😊
This is a great way to display your comics
Great stuff-thanks for sharing! 👍🏾🙂
Thanks for posting and great idea.
Sweet! I love this idea and I will most likely try this.
I just found this. The is a great want to display comics and does not cost an arm and a leg.
Just finished putting a small display up in my man cave. Great idea 🙂
Thanks!
Where did you buy the J-channel? I can’t find it
Kristina Alonzo I found mine at B&Q in the UK
I had the same idea just a few days agoo and low and behold...Sweet!
been looking for a vid like this - perfect
Very cool ny comic book brother..very cool indeed...
Nice. Project for the afternoon! 😄👌
I install Vinyl siding and i never thought of this!! I have thousands worth of Michael Jordan Sports Illustrated mags from the 80's and 90's
When cutting plastic with a handsaw, pulling the saw backwards is usually a good way to keep the saw from jumping
Cool video and displays 👍🏽
This is a great idea. Thanks for sharing. Just about to do the basement and needed an idea to display. Can’t wait to put it into the design.

Awesome new subscriber here thanks 👍
What were the exact measurments again please!?
where can i get those black bags? they would be perfect for my single row design
nice !!!
Lol i had this same idea didnt even see anything about it so its cool im not the only person to have this idea, I built a 2'x4' display board

Following. Same for me. Went to Lowe’s and Home Depot. Closed I found was moulding but didn’t have the wholes and the correct sizes.
Great video thank you.
Wish they made transparent j channel
That would actually be pretty cool!

Can u paint the j channel a different color
I wish I had more wall space to do this!
You just need to move some stuff around! That's what I did to make my first Action Figure Variant wall. :)
How do you think I could use this for a comic con display that would be easily put up and taken down?
Can anyone provide a link to this product? I can't seem to track it down using google searches.
Is there a way to do this for apartment walls? I don't want to mess up the walls
I can't imagine what it would be. :/
I've always just used like 10 screws when hanging the J-channel.

I was wondering if you could help me out a bit. I went to my local Home Depot but couldn't find it anywhere. What section exactly can I find it at? Thank you.
It's in the siding section, usually down by the lumber.
Cool
Cut with snips made for the vinyl
That sounds like a great idea! The right tool for the job and all that. :)
couldn't you put them in horizontal and once in twist?
Spacer was a good idea

I've been looking here in SoCal as well. No luck. Have you since had any luck?
I'm wondering if you are just using bag and board if they start to warp over time because they are just standing by themselves.
Yes they do
Oh, for sure. I would always use a top loader.

just use bar dividers
