Hey Dan, Nice build, I love the design choices you are making with the bike, but shouldn't the exhaust pipes be the same length?? If the pipes are not equal length, both inertial scavenging and wave scavenging will vary among engine cylinders, often dramatically. This, in turn, causes different tuning requirements for different cylinders. These variations affect air/fuel mixtures and timing requirements, and can make it very difficult to achieve optimal tuning. Equal length pipes eliminate these exhaust-induced difficulties. "
I welded up a full 2 inch exhaust for a XJ650, but wow it is actually so noisy it hurts to stand around... does sound nice when its running on all 4 cylinders. 16 gauge 204, 304, 409 stainless only 3/36 7014 stick welding rod, can cut the pipe any ol way and just practice patching the gaps. just have to get to lair of burnt oil on the welds to slow the rust. The yellow/bronze color shift is really nice. "has one of those car mufflers that are for a little Honda car as a slip on but there often mentioned as being with derogatory terminology called a Fart-Can, tho the 4 inch wide tip on the muffler with the three feet of 2/2.5 inch pipe... the "fart-can" actually sounds like a Thrush glass pack" good welds are important, a back fire after hitting 6000rpm and a hard start sets off alarm sensors.
Nice to see your great fabrication skills being used again Dan, you have done a awesome job on the bike so far and I do hope it's turning out as you wanted it, it's not really my thing but then I'm not the one riding it so don't worry about the nay-sayers on here about the looks, colour or design as it's just how you want it. 👍
I'm not trying to have a go, and I'm definitely no expert but should the exhaust lengths not be roughly similar? Does this not have an effect with airflow? I'm sure I saw something once about manifold tubing lengths but that was on a car! Loving the videos by the way, can't wait for more on the Golf.
I thought this too, I’m no expert, but I thought there had to be some consideration for the length due to the pulse and flow of gas, it has all to do with the scavenge of exhaust gas from the cylinder. Would be great if someone in the know could put their 2c in
Any reason why you didn’t TIG the exhaust, I thought I’d seen a video of you playing with that? How loud is that going to be, you not concerned regarding getting pulled or MOT?
Another interesting vlog on the bike. I'm loving the way the bike is coming together, apart from one thing. I hate to say it Dan, but the engine looks terrible! To me it looks like it's been under sealed!! Maybe a couple of gold anodised parts on the crankcase or heads would help lift it a touch. Just trying to be constructive and help make the bike, the best it can be. Otherwise, top job.👍
Maybe I'm impatient but it'd be no use to you if you only received positive feedback. 😁 I do love watching your videos, but I do get frustrated as they do drag on. Some bits are probably for serious enthusiasts who want to learn how to do certain parts, but most want to see the transformations. I appreciate you want to show the work involved ... but if that goes too slow you'll lose people's attention. Again ... I love what you do, but no point if your fan boys tell you that you're awesome every week.
Honestly it's starting to look a lot like a 100 other customs based on that bike. Upside down gold forks, raised tank, cut off exhausts, tank a plain colour. Where yours Is better is that it's not pale blue with a brown seat. How much has it cost you?
Can’t help thinking a pipe should be a focal point, especially the tips, wouldn’t cost that much to have a proper one made out of titanium with nice ends Satin black is played out
Nah, If you look back though any of my builds be it on UA-cam or before then I prefer a much more subtle understated simple look and lines of things. Everything i have done to this bike is exactly how I wanted to build it.
nice work, tough little Golf 1 or 2 also......heat wrap would compliment the forks
Another one for the books. Making exhaust can be a work of art. The for "not knowing what I'm doing" it looks, in your words "Mega" 😁.

coming aiong nicely
Bikes looking awesome, love how subtle she looks 🤟👌🤘👍
Thank you bud. in my opinion less is so much more!
Well done fella it's looking fantastic 👌👌👌
Love how meticulous you were. Attention to detail is second to none! ♥️
boom my sunday morning viewing sorted
Great vid again Dan. Thought you weren’t gonna ever weld again without safety specs under the welding mask? Haha soon forgot that didn’t you!
Yeah that one slipped thorugh. I was focussed on concentrating on making the exhaust. Don't tell the wife 😉
Looks like the smiley face forgot his safety specs 🤣
Just don’t point the gun at your face. Problem solved.
Love watching your vids Dan !!
Think you’re a wicked fabricator !!
I think a little heat wrap on them pipes would tie in nicely with the cafe’ look

Very simple exhaust , looks great. Nice hologram sticker on your welding mask.
Thank you Andy. Less is so much more. Im not doing something for the sake of it and having it look out of place.
@@DanChambersDAC plain and simple is sometimes key. Great stuff
Nice pipes them Dan, you did a cracking job 👊👊👊
Lovely. Good to see something a little different from the normal café virago exhausts. (hopefully it spits flames :D)
Bike looks great bud 👍 just a little bit more work then you will be on the road
Another great video Dan
Best series so far love it ❤️
Nice vid bud. Good to see your welding lessons coming to good use.
Great videos mate. Looking forward to seeing what your next project is going to be. Keep up the good work

Exhaust wrap it. That would look good.
Mornin' mate!
Does this engagement help? Great build bud x
thats gonna be loud , heat rap them
Awesome build mate! I'm building a similar XV at the moment, and am concerned about ground clearance - what is yours like?

that exhaust would look cool if you brass treated it to match the forks
rear exhaust pipe abit too close to the tire, with mine bike I welded hard 90 deg down to keep exhaust pipe closer to swing arm
That heat wrap stuff would look good on the exhaust
