I’m happy to see that other people enjoy just browsing through a junk yard ! I go to my local yard several times a year to just “ look “ around. My wife thinks I’ve flipped my lid.
I dont go to junk yards, id end up bringing all of it home with me😔
I love junkyards!
All day...
I found my wife in a junk yard.
@@vodaredhill1704 🤦🏻♂️ lmao
That is the tidiest junk yard I have ever seen in my life - Plus the location looks beautiful.
I think my love for shoes is second only to finding rare truck parts at a pristine pick-n-pull. Sarah's living my dream life lol
But the real question is what shoes do you rock to the junkyard? 😂
what an awesome bone yard! Everything perfectly spaced and lifted. You are obsessed with cleaning and corrosion
*Sarah's a human vehicle encyclopedia.*
*Impressive*
I retain useless info as well, its a blessing and a curse. I can recite PLU numbers from produce in a grocery store 😂
@@SarahnTuned I still remember product code numbers from when I used to manage a restaurant, and used to call in all our orders. Also most of the phone numbers of my friends in HS, which is coming up on 30 years ago. Names are a mystery, though.
@@SarahnTuned Forgetfulness is a much-maligned virtue.
Sarah, have you considered trying a more abrasive sand blast media? For the amount of cleaning a restoration you do you should go get a Harbor Freight sand blast booth. I think it will get you a better result in less time.
@@SarahnTuned All of them?
that plastic suit 😂😂😂 this is what makes your channel so amazing Sarah
Lovin' that Barbarella PPE missis 😂. Well done on the ingenuity front 😁👍👍👍. Scrapyard tour was fab! 😎
Never seen a scrapyard that clean or with the cars arranged so neatly and proped up too! Amazing. Our's are usually deep in greasy, oily mud...
The salvage yard visit is always fun. I’m with you on the excitement of seeing so many different makes. The AZ yard definitely has better pickings, as apposed to NE rust buckets. Fun Sarah
*That's the nicest salvage yard I've ever seen.*
That transmission better appreciate what you’re doing for it 👍🏽
Love the ranger content. The junkyard footage and description is awesome.
Enjoyed the trip through the salvage yard. That one is REALLY clean--the cleanest, most organized one I've ever seen.
Muriatic acid is just impure hydrochloric acid. It can eat up aluminum pretty badly. Lungs, eyes, skin too, just depending on how concentrated it is. You'll see lots of recommendations to use a full face respirator, and to use the stuff for masonry and tile cleaning only. If it is concentrated enough, a vapor fog will literally climb out of the bottle and then up your arms and into your face.
0:38 No, you're definitely no moron of any kind. You've got almost half mil YT channel (100% you'll get there this year), you've got the shop and the project cars. A moron wouldn't make it that far. Stupid is as stupid does, and you do right things. Your quirky mind is your precious asset. Love your jokes and innuendos.
My wife an i loved going to the wrecking yard an just spending the day looking for parts, i love her for that
What else can I say other than I'm a sucker for a Gal in a plastic bag! 😍
Love the suit protector.hope the weathers not to cold there!🏴👀🥰
I think the only elements from the Periodic Table that you didn't use were the radioactive ones. 😄👌As fastidious and fabulous as ever, Sarah. 👍👍👍
Wish you would try sandblasting with 220 grit aluminum oxide. I think you will be pleased of the results. We used it on everything. Leaves a satin finish on steel , cast iron and aluminum.
YES! I said that in the other video. Sandblast it. It will look brand new!
Yes, that always works, but sometimes you need to clean something without taking it apart. You have to be very careful using sand around openings, mechanisms, seals etc.
@@phila3884 yeah I wouldn't sandblast a transmission without splitting the case and blasting the case stripped and separate.
@@phila3884 You could always use baking soda or dry ice. It won't hurt anything if it happens to get inside.
Taking a car out of the junkyard and restoring it would be a fun video series. Something awesome that really should never have been put in there, imho
I enjoy exploring in a pick and pull. Always better with a friend.
A junk yard without rusting vehicles, no way. Yes, I'm from a Chicago suburb. Great videos; you're motivating me to get back into working on cars as a hobby.
Thank you for being you. You are soothing to watch with all your expertise. You're like a neutralizer in this world of cray cray!
Replace those three rubber plugs behind the shifter with freeze plugs, and save yourself a big mess and a new transmission. My favorite yard is Pull-N-Save in SLC, UT.
Poor Charlie always loosing rock paper scissors and getting the sheety jobs, he's loosing on purpose. What a gentleman.
Grams would be so proud of the hard work you are doing on her old truck, it's looking beautiful.
The fastest, safest way of cleaning that, use glass beads in your soda pot. Simple green also works, with alumni wash.
Love the PPE. Be safe. Safety first. 👍
Only YOU can make navigating a junk yard fun and interesting. Keep up the great work, there are always lots of people willing to listen to your brain doing it's thing...
I also love junkyard walks. It makes me wonder who may have owned the car I'm looking at and where they might have gone in the car. And every once in a while, you strike gold and find what you're looking for. Keep up the great work.
Need to keep a bottle of baby powder at the shop for those swamp ass issues .lol .laughed my ass off .thanks for the honesty .you rock .!!!!!!!👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️✌️🥰🥰🥰
My Dad said do the best you can with what you have to work with and Sarah you do and that makes you pretty special in my book. Also you know your cars and I drove several of those cars when they were new.
Muriatic acid is a great all around product. You can clean with it, balance the ph in pool water and use it for a drain opener, great stuff, but smells like rotten eggs. haha
One of my 30 year old ratchets was slipping, I took it apart and filed the teeth and cleaned all the gunk out of it. I cleaned it so well, it look brand new and I thought, Sarah would be proud. 😁
Get some bilt hamber rust removal spray, gel.
These guys know what they are doing they are an actual laboratory. 👍
Love the walk through the junk yard. Being a boomer, it’s nostalgic to see really old vehicles I once owned or drove when I was your age. Your PPE was “rad”, I believe you youngin’s say. Respect on the many attempts to restore the aluminum transmission. Aluminum is a very stubborn metal to return to new appearance. Thanks for another great production. 👍👍👍
Haha, us youngin’s born in the 80’s and early 90’s!
@@SarahnTuned We're the old ones now, Ace
@@SarahnTuned Age and it’s culture appropriation is a relative thing. As a fellow Boomer, I can say we still share many of the qualities and attributes of your younger generation, like fun, automotive restoration, and just general curiosity and knowledge. That’s what draws all ages to your videos….well, and your marvelous sense of humor and world outlook! 🐧
@@SarahnTuned In the late 70's I was roaming through the pathetic junkyards we have up in New England...where it's a race between the parts hunter and RUST. In college (early 80's) I was every shade of green with envy because a friend went to school in Tucson and constantly gloated about his access to these miraculous places they call junkyards in the southwest. They're more like suspended animation chambers...
80's is young, 57's is old. If you don't believe me, ask my back.
That Dodge is a '69 Monaco, a unique look for the 2nd gen Monacos with that front grill that year only. That car would make a great project for someone!
When working with acid , it is best to prepair a large bucket of baking soda and water for safety sake . Keep a spray bottle full handy .
Spray bottle for the acid and a respirator. Let it set a short period and spray with water. I use it all the time
When you’ve finished dressing up the transmission casing put a sacrificial node on it
Nobody can question Sarah's work ethic! She's a grinder and very detailed/task oriented. Surprised you didn't wear gloves when working in the junkyard - given that you aren't sure what you could find there. Glad you got some sun! 😊
Morning from Australia 😆🤗
Triumph TR-7???? My first car, a convertible. Thanks for bringing back those nightmares. lol Keep rockin´.
We get car stuff and humour.
The silly daft things you say at the start of the video are funny and they always make me laugh, and it's even funnier because you are laughing because it seems like it's the first time you have heard it.
Muriatic acid is used to clean fresh brickwork after the masons point up the joints, We used to spray it on brush it down then rinse it with water. I find it has multipul uses. Used to to clean rust from a motorcycle gas tank worked great. Just a mild acid.
No Comment's - Great Job 👍!!!!!
Hi from Chertanovo Chopper's Custom Club !!!!!
(Moscow City)
Sarah, one of the most common uses for muriatic acid is to clean missionary (brick) they use clean fire places . What ever to do use protection on skin face and eyes. Stay safe.
Awesome 😀👍🏽 love junk yard's sometimes depends on the weather and what I need to get , the gearbox is looking better 👍🏻👍🏽
You brought the tools you need to the junkyard! Yah baby!!
Was nice seeing that wee tr7 at the yard brought back great memories many moons ago was my first car same colour as well
Muriatic acid helps with keeping the pool water in balance. You can use Chlorine, muriatic acid and soda ash for the most part to keep a pool happy.
Transmission looking better, but not up to your standards. Can't wait to see the finale
You're awesome! Thanks for keeping me sane in this trying time. You make me smile with your humour. Everyone should watch your channel. The world would be a better place.
Don't know about the junk yards there, but every one I have been to in my area there's nothing left of any car. Like you got 1 hour after a vehicle arrives before it's picked clean. Love the video though. Honestly, the transmission looks great.
The Dodge in the beginning of video is a 1969 Dodge Polara. Curiosity got the best of me and I had to look it up. Btw- I love the way you talk, twist words, and use innuendos. I get your meanings and jokes. I do the same thing and you're the only other person I know that does that at the same level as myself. I love it. I call Firebirds- Fire Chickens and Thunderbirds- Thunder Chickens. As for your comment per the sticker and Australians, I was in Darwin, N.T., Australia 6 years ago and I died LOL when I saw a Southern Rebel Flag sticker on the back of a car while I was there. Love your videos. Keep up the great work.
Happy Saturday Sarah!!!
Yes, Tucson U Pull It is awesome, most of the vehicles there are fully intact for the most part, and its east side location can't be beat. High 5 to Charlie!!
Stay excellent!!!😎
I luv the donut spare wheelbarrows. That junk yard is very well organized!
Awesome video as always! Can't wait for the CT5-V Blackwing!!
Love the determination to get this truck as perfect as possible. It will be an incredibly clean driver for you.
Sarah, if you have the need for full body PPE, try a Tyvek jumpsuit from the paint dept at Lowes or Homedepot. Ace on Houghton probably carries also.
Junkyards and hardware stores fun to walk around
The front grill badge on that Datsun Pickup, er Ute (6:20), is probably worth it's weight in gold.
Love your containment suit. You be OK in a zombie apocalypse!
Nice video. I live in Indiana where there is a lot of backwoods junk yards. It's strange to see a junk yard that you don't have to take a chainsaw to get your parts. It kind of seems like cheating. Thank you for your time.
I was thinking the same. The cars are also clean and almost displayed, with their hoods up. It reminded me of a car show more than a junkyard😃
Sarah your gram is definitely looking down on you with a big smile giving you a big thumbs up on all the hard work and dedication to restoration of her truck. Great job. Gonna look great when it's all back together.
A woman who walks through a junkyard with such glee, and nerds out on old cars, is a rare and wonderful thing indeed.
Everything I have read on the subject says you want to use glass bead blasting on Aluminum casings and it will bring them up like new. Small sand blasters are very cheap and you just put glass bead blasting media in a sand blaster. IMO it would be a worthwhile investment if you plan on doing more restos.
Tape of the holes on the transmission and transfer case and Glass Bead it. It will look like new!
From the salvage yard to the salvaged transmission what a fun time! Your OCD is brilliantly on display and I love it!
Of all the inventions of the last 100 years, the dry erase board has to be the most remarkable =)
Blaster and a rag and LOTS of elbow grease will do amazing things to casr aluminum. The corrosion is aluminum oxide, the same thing they make grinding wheels and sandpaper from. Oil puts it in suspension and the rag works like a polishing wheel. The corrosion will keep getting smaller and smaller as you rub on it. Dont wash it down untill your hapoy and it can almost make shine like chrome with enoygh rubbing.
Super cool, loved every minute of this one.
That would be the first junkyard that would have carts to help you out
Junk yards are always so fun! Thanks for the ride along!
For what you have handy you do great work
Cool to see a Datsun :) My first car was an 83 Datsun/Nissan Stanza (hand me down). I loved that little hatchback. It had both Datsun and Nissan tags on the back because it was the year they were switching.
Excellent results, Sarah! Especially considering that you are working mostly on your own, with fairly limited equipment. That Ranger is going to be pretty special once it is finished....
Thanks for the share.
You should use the brushes from the hardware store that attach to the drill, they are much stiffer.
Sarah, for doing a blackened color and coating for some fasteners, you can easily use Cold Blue from any gunstore. The chems in it produce a darkened, black phosphate appearance. Just a thot to make it easier than going out for coatings.
I am so jealous of your junk yards! Up here in Canada, a bit of a different story!!
As a former 2x Ranger owner can’t wait to see it finished
Hey, cool video. You're committed to restoring your truck to factory condition. Respect. I think the process you're looking for to restore the factory sheen on alumin(i)um castings is called vapor honing. There's lots of videos and diy stuff here on youtube. And you can replate those brackets and bolts using the copy cad setup from caswell plating. It's real zinc plating with a yellow chromate wash. It's the real thing. I'd love to see you do this. If you REALLY want to see this truck look factory new, you would be very satisfied with the results.
Cracked up at the home made bio hazard suit.
My favourite restoration
This is a lovely truck and worth every bit of effort especially since its so sentimental. I wish I had something from my grandparents to restore :)
The Mopar at 0:52 is a '69 Dodge Monaco. Impressive that the yard would keep cars that old. Looks like someone beat us to its engine, which was probably a big block, either a 383 or 440.
I enjoy going to local salvage yards also! That is a very nice and neat salvage yard you and Charlie were @. Alot of nice vehicles that look like they shouldn't be in there! Mazda RX8's look like nice project cars! Do they sell the whole vehicles @ that salvage yard? Glad you found the parts you needed! The 94 Ford Ranger is looking great! Can't wait to see it completed! It will be 1 of nicest 94 Ford Ranger xlt 4x4 around! Take care Sarah!
Happy Staurday Y'all!
GET A DRY ICE BLASTER !!! THEY WORK AWESOME !
Owner of a fancy ranger and following closely. Try using brass wire dremel wheels. I had a corroded ATV engine and used them and it wasn't too abrasive and left a great finish but used a lot of wheels. Also try brasso or autosol, the have acid and abrasives that work together with your toothbrush.
Awesome video Sarah.
That has to be one the best PPE outfits I've seen, although think our work, health and safety person, would have a fit 👍🏼, love your work
We love it too when you go to the junk yard👍👍
That Dodge in the beginning of the video looked like a early 70's Monaco. Pretty rare to see a two door, at least around my area.
Bluesmobile!
I used to run a pick n pull yard like that changed out 20-25 vehicles every day
As always 😊nice job girl. Dedication wow.
These small truck videos are my absolute favorite.
@13:18 Yep, that looks like the proper OSHA approved gear for hazardous chemical environment work.
JYs in your state are clean af, mine on the east coast are all mud and rust. Also most of mine don't charge me for hardware so that's a bonus.
Sarah, sightings of a yeti are more common than me posting something online, but I felt compelled to let you know that it would be both artistic and entertaining if you added some sort of audio VoiceOver while your ending credits run...ya know, having something dorky or interesting that we wouldn't normally get to hear due to all the editing. We all love hearing the things that make you crack up! Thanks for your time and please don't stop making this amazing content!!
Sarah I don't know if anyone suggested using a Soda blaster . It works well especially with all the hard to reach with a brush on the transmission. Keep up the great content
