    Thank you very much! I had the same issue today! I installed a GFCI outlet, and it wasn't working - exact symptoms (voltage tester confirmed voltage but wouldn't reset). Thank you for thr tip. I had the same problem, but it was after I had changed the GFCI, I have poor eyesight, but I was careful to keep the wires arranged on the new GFCI the same as the old one. My house was built in 1990 and Leviton 15Amp GFCI had Line on the bottom, but the new Leviton 15Amp GFCI has Line wires on top. After switching Line & Load wires it worked properly. Thank you again.

    Great video! I ran into an issue where the light on the GFCI was green, but no power. Was scratching my head, so pulled the old one out of the garbage to give it another look. Realized the Load and Line where opposite on the new one vs. the old (who’d a thought). Switched them and it worked. Just something to take into consideration as well when switching out a GFCI.

    I recently had an outdoor GFCI trip during rain and it wouldn't reset (even after I determined how to re-establish power). UA-cam told me to check other GFCI's in the house, and I found a tripped culprit 100 feet away next to an upstairs sink.
    1. Does this mean that an electrician had to run special wiring between the two outlets?
    (The outdoor outlet was installed 30 years after the house was built, and this incident is when I found out that there was no breaker-box switch for that outlet. Frustrating!)
    2. I had a normal outlet on-hand and replaced the GFCI and weatherproofed it. Will it work? Thanx!

    Great video! In the video you said that the homeowner told you that the outlet was working when the so called electrician had left the night before. It was the next morning when they tried to use it that when they find it wasn't working. I find It is so frustrating when a clients tells me something and You find out that they had told you there is no way it could be possible.There's no way that outlet was working with it wired up like that. I bet you it was the homeowner that had put the GFCI outlet in and they are blamed a electrician so they wouldn't look like the dumb ass for wiring t up wrong.

    New gfi has line and load flip flopped like you said. Caught it after I hooked it all up same as old one. Green light. No power in outlet. Thought maybe I fried it. Because I reversed the load and line and still nothing. Put another one in. I reversed the black wires this time. It's a duplex with 2 black, 2 white, and a ground. I reversed the black, I still get the green light but no power. I test the load coming in at 120 with a multimeter which tells me wires and breaker are still ok. Should I have flip flopped the white wires too? Update. I swapped the white wires too and booya. It resets and works.. Thanks for the video!

And now 2 other outlets arent working. There are 4 wires attached not 2. 2 black on one side and 2 white on the other. I un-installed it and put in a regular outlet and now all 3 outlets work again but no gfci outlet now. Really weird

    Question: Does the Test BUTTON on the GFCI push the current to the ground conductor or to the neutral conductor.

    • @MountaineerOutdoors
      @MountaineerOutdoors  Рік тому

      Great question here is better answer than I can give.. Btw... Great question... A GFCI outlet tester measures the current from one side of the power source to the other side. If the currents are not the same then some current could be leaking in a dangerous and unsafe way. It is a fast acting circuit breaker that will shut off power if there is a ground fault. The ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) tester is used to reduce the risk of electrical shock generated from outlets by testing the electrical circuitry to see if there is imminent danger. Electrical spikes can cause electrical fires or physical harm, such as skin burns or even the heart to stop.
      The GFCI tester measures the current so that you can be protected against the ground fault, which is the most common form of electrical shock. The outlet tester is used to better understand the status of the electrical current in a specific outlet. It works by comparing the amount of current traveling from one end to the other along the circuit conductors. This measurement is used to determine if change or repair is needed to the electrical wires. Uneven current or spikes are not safe and GFCI testers are designed to protect against electrical fires, electrical overheating, or prevent damage to the protective insulation of existing wires.

    What are the odds that 2 GFIs are defective right out of the package? I am installing (DIY) a GFI with 6 outlets (dry location) circuit. All connections properly made. Line from subpanel to GFI line side of outlet, Load to remaining outlets. Power from house to subpanel in a shed, separate from the house., 6/3 wire supply is good w/ voltage. Power from subpanel 20A CB to Eaton 20A TRWSGF20 is good w/ voltage. Yet after wires connected, GFI outlet secured to box, neither the test nor the reset buttons function.
