1. Don't worry about matchups in terms of x character does well against y character. that doesn't matter at all until you're at a very high level. Learn what your character can do against each character 2. Go to training mode and learn at least all of the moves in the "main techniques." It will be way better in the long run to learn how to do the moves yourself. The special style will make you plateau quickly 3. Learn all of the different ways you can wake up off the floor. There's many videos online that list all of the options, but they all have strengths and weaknesses 4. Choose one character and commit to learning them. Jumping between too many characters at the beginning will not allow you to improve at a steady pace. 5. Tekken is hard. Don't put the pressure of winning all the time on yourself. Allow yourself to lose a lot, but always learn from it Edit: clarified the first point
I would argue that knowing what is the "gameplan" and most prominent moves of each character is important, but that can be done 1 at a time with the replay system. Play against a character, and if you get knowledge checked just go to the replay of that match and study it, they even give a lot of resources now to help you.
Mentality is also a big part of playing at ur best so working on not getting tilted fast is probably a good idea most people overlook or struggle with it too so if u work on it u can get that down u could make people tilt and play bad as a game plan
Also note on No. 4. You need to diligently choose a character to learn as a beginner. It needs to be simple and not that gimicky. Avoid Yoshimitsu and Kuma if possible
Hey Afro some tips here 1) To block you dont need to hold back or diagonally back down. You can block High and Mid attacks by not touching your movement stick, Lows need to be blocked by holding Down (Just down no diagonal) 2) Throws can be teched by watching which hand leads the throw, its fast but One Hand will be the most visible when throwing. If it leads with the left hand you press square if its the right hand you press triangle 3) I dont recommend playing in specialty mode, from my knowledge its essentially the same combo for whatever button you press. It can make it easy for the enemy player to block your attacks. Plus youll have a better understanding of your chosen character 4) Learn to be patient and block any attack string and STRIKE the moment you see an opening. This doesnt necessarily mean attack the moment their combo ends because they can stagger jabs and different multi hit attacks after a combo. Thats why you need to be patient and block, learn your enemies habits. 5) Grabs and High attacks can be avoided by ducking (holding STRAIGHT down) some grabs are Mids so ducking can put you into a state to be grabbed so its always good to remember to sidestep or back off if you feel they may grab 6) Neutral is the name of the game, Win the Neutral to earn your turn and combo them to death! Poke them until they have no health You got this and remember NEVER GIVE UP!!!!! Edit: After reading the comments I realized holding back is better for blocking so block back and diagonally. I'm learning and new too so I appreciate the advice guys!
Great advice, if I could add something minor….. -when you get downed, understand there are multiple ways to get back up and use that to your advantage. Just because you’re down doesn’t mean to instantly get back up, sometimes it helps to wait a second or two. Especially if your opponent is being highly aggressive. Sometimes when you take a second they take a second so take advantage of that second
Point 1 was bad advice, neutral guard is garbage and will get you dropped, if you intend to block standing you absolutely should hold back. Expanding point 2, some command throws can be broken by pressing both the square and triangle buttons together, but for King's chain throws you typically only need to pick what part of the chain you want to break and identify what button breaks that part, classic example being spamming triangle when he tries to lock your arm behind your back will get you out of the rolling death cradle and save you from huge damage. Would also dispute point 5 saying to hold straight down for ducking, down-back is the fastest and most reliable way to both duck and guard against lows.
He wants to be good at a game serie he barely even played without knowing the fundamentals and hitting the training mode, I mean, what was gonna happen ?
@@ThisAinThatMetrohe plays like me at the beginning The scrub lord arc 😂 give it time, he may learn one or two characters and while not being at Pro level he can have fun and show quality gameplay im sure
We might get 2 more vid b4 he goes on another adventure. Actually persona 3 drops soon?? Assuming he ain’t get a review copy he’s gone on the 2nd. Ff7R shi that nigga my go to Japan
Afro, I love your content . But you gotta learn these combos. Go to practice. Do some combat trials . After that do some combat trials as well. But stay off the special moves . Please . Even so take it off the controller or fight pad.
The timing of when you push buttons matter. THE DIRECTION of where you're moving + which buttons you push also matter. If you just keep pushing square and triangle and circle over and over again you'll never get it anywhere. Tekken has a ton of defensive options. Ducking, Jumping, Sidestepping, Parrying, Blocking, Korean Backdash. If you block more and sidestep (3d game), youll have more success. Try to master your movement. This is a 3d game. Youll be surprised how much sidestepping just destroys people. Or learning how to korean backdash to make your opponent overextend. Fang is my personal favorite character. I recommend him to everyone. King is fun. But he is all about chain grabbing people, once you learn how to break his chain grabs he's much less effective and you have to go for more guaranteed damage. If you go into training mode and set king to grab you with his special grabs you can break 90% of them by mashing 1, 2 or 1+2. You can also duck some of his grabs. Law is really basic, I personally haven't watched enough gameplay to know exactly how good law is. But hes the bruce lee clone. You hit it right on the noggin, when it comes to tekken, matchups are a big Factor in that regard. There are so many characters and every character has so many different interactions with everybody else that it's best to literally stick to one or two characters and master them so that way you can see how they fight the different cast members. My list for AfroSenju to learn. 1) Pick a character and learn their basic BnBs (Easy Bread and Butters) 2) Ground, Wall and Air followups. In higher ranks people will parry your repetitive attacks and use their movements to ruin your day. When you catch them you want to maximize every punish. Establish dominance. 3) Lastly learn to block and Korean Backdash. Or at least attempt it. If you can even get a semblance of a Korean backdash you'll automatically level up. And blocking will literally beat 50% of the casual fanbase. Good luck Afro! You're my favorite anime. Trying to set you right.
King is one of those characters where when you're fighting him he feels unstoppable, but when you play him you realize that using him effectively requires a lot of good timing and patience. Not the most complicated character by far, but there's an underappreciated skill to using him.
I’ve always found if you’re good with king and know a few of his moves and grapple strings you can beat a lot of people. I’d say a lot of low to mid rank players can’t deal with it as they don’t understand how to break grabs and just panic. Once you get to the higher tiers where people really know what they’re doing it immediately becomes even harder to get wins. There’s a definite wall to break through with King.
He has gimmicks in the form of throws and some weird attacks and unblockables BUT he is popular so people get to know how to play against it and also he is better played with players that shows restraint with delving into those tools because those are not the strongest and Can be telegraphed and countered easily
King was my first main and got him to purple ranks in Tekken 7, and I can say no he doesn't require anywhere near as much timing and execution as other characters. And especially at low levels, his throws and chain throws are just staight up broken, so I always refrained from using them cuz I just felt like a bitch
King with speciality controls is brain dead character. You can bypass all the timing-based attacks and just mash. Since they nerf throw counters it's even more appealing to just smash buttons with King.
@yellowscarlightningscream8347 I'll be honest no character is being carried by special controls in this game unless you yourself are just kind of bad and don't know what your doing
almost sounds the same but instead of being washed you're getting through the fire to be more refined. think that's more towards religion sort of deal.
Some tips from a player who's played since T3: -Ofc pick characters that you really like or are drawn to -Every single Mishima (Kazuya, Jin, Devil Jin) has a weakside, which is their left. Sidestep left and you can overcome a big advantage with that. (Not too sure about Reina since she's new) -Jumping in this game is a no-no, don't do it early on until you learn a bit more about delayed hop-kicks -Learn your characters main moves, aka OP moves that they have that will give you a big advantage. (Example: Jin's 4 on hit connect will allow you to use his 1+2 heat engager immediately) -Try to learn juggles/staple combos. These will be the main thing you want to focus on as a newer player. -You can assign buttons to more moves, such as your back buttons assigned to LP+RP/1+2 or any singular button. This makes doing certain moves and stances WAY easier. -Holding back is to guard. Use it. -Have fun most of all, getting frustrated will only lead to more mistakes. And sometimes you need to take a step back or a break to get better. -If you're planning on learning King, Lil Majin is your go to guy. Good Luck on the grind everyone 👍
Afro, after good matches or hard losses, when they record the replay, GO WATCH IT. Those replays will show you when attacks can be punished and what good punishes for your character are.
reminds me of that scene from kung fu hustle when the main character tries to act like a gangster and picks on a old lady and a kid but regrets because they're beasts
Afro the replay mode in tekken goes hard. You can seamlessly go from watching a replay to playing in it. The game will even tell you live action style basic ways to counter things you messed up on. Replays go hard in tekken
Each character shines base on how well you play them. You don’t have to worry about other characters being stronger. Some fights are harder based on your character’s weaknesses but it’s satisfying outplaying your opponent.
Afro, while the special controls might seem good for beginners. It will only take you so far before you start getting bodied by more experienced players. You gotta learn the inputs on your own You will become very easy to read and you’ll just be doing the same moves over and over with little variation. As well as the auto combos the game gives you are very basic and are not the most damaging combos. One more small note: There are 1 of 3 ways to break a grab depending on said grab. A 1 break: Pressing square A 2 break: Pressing triangle Or. A 1+2 break: Pressing square and triangle at the same time. Hope this helps! Learning Tekken by no means is an easy task and it takes people months to even get decent at the game so don't get discouraged. Keep at it, learn the combos and the punishes and you'll slowly improve.
very true about the special style of inputs. while i'm watching, i'm noticing he's getting moves out of the special style he shouldn't be using in said scenario. esp with king, he's not gonna be able to rely on that special mode all of the time. going in and out of it seems to work nicely
My tip is not to panic mash and try to learn your fast strings for punishes and try to learn combos without autocombos so you have better idea of the game’s neutral
1. Special controls can give you the idea on what moves to do but it can only be effective if you want to play it on a casual/beginner level. 2. It is vital that you learn the moves by yourself and execute them without relying on the special controls. 3. Go to training mode and use the character that you want to main then try using other characters to check their moves and what they do. I want to see you get better at this afro because tbh any average player will make you quit this game with how you're playing it.
24:48 LTG would be proud. 😂😂😂 but frfr Afro just gotta 1. Find a character that resonates with him 2. Hit the lab and practice combos and conversions 3. Get whooped some more( training mode never hits back like a real person)
Just try out the "Arcade Quest" mode, it will give you solid footing on whichever character you choose to run, from there you can go into online knowing a little bit more about tekken that can go a long way.
Afro, you gotta do the tutorials bro. This game is perfect with it, not just basics but it lets you get your combos down pact. Another thing, SAVE YOUR REPLAYS!!!! It will show you when you could have countered and what you can do better in the matches. Good luck and have fun brother, I’m glad you’re playing more fighters!
Getting put in the blender is fundamental to the learning experience, have fun Afro! When your focus is more on learning than winning, you're gonna improve sooo much faster lol
I highly recommend that you watch 'Ultimate Beginner Guide - TEKKEN 8' by Massive Zug. He explains all of the game's fundamentals. Some of it seems obvious, but there's a lot of very important tips in the video that will help you out greatly. After all, mastering the fundamentals are the most important part of any fighting game.
here's some advice: STOP USING THE BABY MENU AND LEARN THE GAME. YOU AINT GONNA BE ABLE TO LEARN HOW TO RIDE A BIKE IF ALL YOU USE ARE THE STABALIZERS.
Absolutely hilarious. I really hope you don’t drop this series and can share your growth in Tekken. Losing is all a part of it. If you can find a sparring partner to help you master basic techniques, you’ll come back to ranked like a beast.
Here’s a few things to keep in mind if ya keep coming back, 1. Lock down a character you really want to learn and invest time into what they can do and what kind of play style they fit into. 2. Don’t focus on getting wins right away, just focus on learning and getting better at executing your moves and combos consistently. 3. This game will put you through the ringer because you don’t know a lot, don’t let that discourage you, lab it out, do your research and get on the grind. Love content Afro, I wish you luck!
Take a mental note king is the grappler of Tekken. Stay away from the grabs and make him box you if you let him get to close he can one combo grab kill you and if you stay too far long will do a drop kick or super man punch that beats a lot of other character distance attacks so it's best to sidestep or block that. Sidestep should be ya best friend next to tech grabs and whatever your go two three moves are.
Quickest way to get better at the start is definitely training mode. Learn your moveset and watcch the frame data so you know when you have to block. Playing sets against someone more experienced will teach you a lot, getting immediate feedback is huge.
I actually disagree with that, despite being a notorious lab monster. You should absolutely use training mode, but the best way to get better at the start is to just fight people. You're not going to know how to lab properly until you know the places you need to improve.
@@dmcfail987It can show you the weaknesses you have with your character. For example, if you find yourself constantly being grabbed after your hit strings, you then can go to training mode to see what other move strings that your character can do. Playing opponents gives you a reason to go to training mode, rather than doing some boring combo for 30 min Honestly I would just recommend playing the arcade mode, as it teaches you some of the fundamentals of Tekken.
@@dragonicprophet769 ok but I'm still learning but isn't like practicing against all of the characters in Tekken 8 beneficial like learning all their moves and stuff? (I started with Tekken 7)
@@dmcfail987 yeah but you’re only gonna burn yourself out trying to learn every character matchup. Focus on mastering the character you want to play first, so you know what your character can do when you’re at a disadvantage.
Afro was losing his damn mind in this video. The raging, the dancing, him caressing his damn chair, etc. I was crying 😂💀 Edit: I just saw the end of the video and I’m crying even more. This man was losing his mind. 😂💀
Matchups in Tekken are based mostly on two things, negative frames on block, from key moves, that another character has good, usually launching, knockdowns, for. Or the other being if a character cannot hit you or them when you or them sidestep or sidewalk. The frames are just remembering who best punishes who, and the sidestep or walk stuff u test all ur good or key moves to see if they track, firstly test vs males of regular size, then females, then moves with sidesteps built into them. An example of how to test, put practice dummy on block for 1st option and step or walk to both directions for 2nd option, and then jab the dummy(square) and follow up with your key moves. Traditionally there have been lists of characters weak sides, but its probably too early for some to bother. Also king has many command throws, throws that require special inputs but are required to break by either just square or just triangle or both at the same time, all individually, a 3 way mixup, compared to regular throws that square or triangle will both break, or both buttons at the same time will break, a 2 way mixup. Since throws and lows beat regular armor, its important.
Afro I recommend learning the actual character moves and inputs. The specialty mode is definitely useful for newcomers but you aren't able to pull out the full the potential of the characters you're trying to play. I'd say hit up training mode and run through your entire character move list just to learn what they're capable of then try the sample combos that way you learn the character moves and also learn what moves work best for combo situations. Other than that you have to learn your character match ups while you're playing. Also in training you can select a move from your move list with triangle and display it on the screen while and practice along with the displayed moves. T8 is SUPER accessible in terms of teaching you the game so take advantage of all of the features and you'll be climbing the rank ladder easily.
Just a few tips for Afro or anyone else who may need them- 1. Some moves are extremely negative on block so even though you may be blocking afterwards you will get hit depending on how fast your opponent is. 2. Rage arts are very unsafe lol always use them during a combo or while being hit 3. You can duck grabs if you have a hard time teching them or until u get the timing right 4. Make a note of which moves are heat engagers (moves that give u the heat running animation) because once your heat is gone it’s gone for the round. 5. Patience is key. Most people that play tekken mash so if u have patience they punish themselves. You’ll be a step ahead of 90% of your opponents😂
Take some time in the practice mode learning the sample combos with any character that you're interested in, then over time you can start freestyling with the combos and learn even stronger combos
Make sure you go into settings and map buttons to your controller so that double presses can be just one button and heat engagements are also one button
@@thekidnextdoor5350it wouldn’t mess up any other binds because by default the only buttons that are bind are X, Y, A, B, your left analog stick and your d-pad. So things you could bind them to would be: LB, LT, RB, RT, L3 and R3
Once you learn your characters move set and what you can combo off of the game will feel different. You will learn the distance certain move will need to hit and that will be an advantage
Alright y'all, I know y'all probably enjoy seeing Afro struggle, but it's about time someone wrote a big ass comment explaining some of the basics, so if you're reading this and you got knowledge to share, definitely reply to the comment and also like so that Afro can read that ! Not gonna lie i'm talking like I'm him but I promise you I'm just someone who enjoys fighting games in general not just Tekken, but those here who are in the same boat as me should definitely be able to tell what's wrong with Afro's approach to Tekken right now so that's why I'm writing this comment. I'm not here to pretend I'm a pro fighter or anything, but when it comes to fighting games progression I'm confident I can share that. Fighting games are kinda like learning martial arts in real life, it's gonna take effort, and repetition, and a calm mind to understand your mistakes and correct them. So Afro if you're somehow reading this I hope you can take something out of it. 1- Learn the basics of fighting games : My first advice, is to jump into the tutorials of this game and actually pay attention to the info you can get out of it. This isn't Ninja Storm, this isn't the Demon Slayer game. The big 3 in fighting games (Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Tekken) have deeper mechanics that most casuals do not know of but the last entries have done a tremendous job at teaching those mechanics. Learn how to block, how to position yourself ideally so you can be at an advantage defensively or offensively depending on your character, learn where your hits land, is it a low, is it a mid or a high, learn how to block, it's not as simple as pressing back, some hits will topple you and make you lose your guard, some hits just open your guard because you're blocking up when you're getting hit low etc etc. That's really the basics of fighting games, when you get that under your belt you'll be able to understand where your mistakes are MUCH MUCH easier and by yourself too ! 2- The Roster and how to choose your main : To answer your question while I am not playing Tekken 8 now but have spent a solid amount of time on 7 and been playing SF6, SFV and MK11. There is a tier list of characters, you won't be able to find the end all be all tier list out there, but long story short yes some characters are advantaged in comparison to others, HOWEVER ! That doesn't mean that the entire game is biased. What makes the difference in Fighting games is the player who is controlling the character. This can be a deciding factor in you choosing your main or mains plural (I would advise not going over 3 maximum, 2 is good imo), however you should just choose characters you think are cool and have a gameplay that you enjoy, when it comes to matchups you will learn that overtime by learning your characters abilities but ESPECIALLY your opponent character's abilities. 3- How to know when you're vulnerable : In all fighting games but especially Tekken, learning which way to get back up after you get knocked down is crucial because while you're getting up, depending on your option you are vulnerable most of the time. There are special inputs that you can learn, to either get back up by adding more space between you and your opponent, you can roll to end up on their flanks, you can kick up to get closer etc etc. The core gameplay of Tekken to deal damage to your opponent can be explained by breaking your combos into three I think. The start of the combo aims to open your opponents guard and launch them into the air, second part is juggling them into the air, the finishing part is when your opponent is on the ground or on a wall and you conclude your combo because you cannot juggle with them endlessly, I tried to explain with my own words but I think you get it. 4- Don't rely too much on Special button layouts : It's a cool feature to get beginners and casuals into the game but I personally don't think it's going to carry you to higher ranks, maybe i'm wrong maybe i'm not, but the goal is for you to actually learn combos, and land them without assistance and Special button combos are limited to a small selection of those, it's gonna limit your creativity and your progression if you rely too much on it, then again that's just my perspective on that you do you homie. There's probably more to be said but nothing comes to mind right now, again I invite anybody who knows about fighting games most specifically Tekken and T8 to reply with more knowledge here and also press like on the comment so that it comes to Afro's attention, I don't know about y'all but I wanna see the homie win !
I hope Afro stays with it long enough to actually learn Tekken. It’s complicated and takes a bit to learn, but that moment when it all finally clicks will hit just as hard as when you beat Malenia for the first time
Tekken is a tough game to get into bruh, it takes time. I’m actually been playing since I was a kid and I’m actually cold at it but even I got stuck in blue ranks in tekken 7😭
The way you tech grabs in Tekken is that you press either left Puch, right punch or both at the same time, depending if the guy's grab animation started with left and/or right arm
1. A lot of grabs are simply a knowledge game. Most of them will be countered by pressing (1), (2), or (1+2) 2. To better develop your game sense, I recommend learning one combo that can be initiated with a launcher through a “sidestep”, “while rising from crouch”, via string, or neutral input. This is IMO the quickest way to learn Tekken, but not necessarily a character. For example, Fahkumram in Tekken 7 had a universal combo that dealt decent damage. The combo was 90% identical except for the first couple of inputs. This combo could be initiated by pressing: - (Sidestep + 4) - (1), (2), (4), (3), (1) - (Back), (Forward), (4) - (4), (3 - quick press 4 and hold 4 down) - (1), (2), (4), (3 - quick press 4 and hold 4 down) - (3), (4 - quick press 3 and hold 3 down) - (While Standing from crouch + 2), (4), (Hold down 3) - (Up + Forward + 1) - (Down + Forward + 2), (3) - (While Standing from crouch + 3) - Low parry = (Down + Forward + In response before getting hit by low) 3. Start off by practicing only one character. I recommend practicing their entire movelist at least once to get a better understanding of their properties. Some character even have unique grabs that can only be blocked by pressing (1+2) instead of either (1) or (2). Putting your enemies into a knowledge check puts the game in your advantage. 4. Learn the strengths and weaknesses of wake up. Some methods put you into a “while rising” state which can lead to you inputting a while rising launcher to start a combo from get up. 5. Try to figure out or search up what might be the highest damaging combo when you get a wallsplat. Many players who learn their first combo eventually carries their opponents to the wall and miss out of potential damage. Some characters even have moves to punish opponents who stay on the ground. Put it all together and you carry to the wall from neutral, wall splat combo, punish if they stay grounded, and either defend of grab when they stand up = Perfect. In all seriousness, it is easier said than done, but you get the point. 6. Once you have your moves and combo memorized, it is time to start all over. In practice tool, switch sides and memorize the other side. 7. Fight stronger players and friends who can give you tips. It will make your own ranked experience feel like a walk in the park. If you wisely use your time, you can become a decent fighter within 20 hours or so with only one combo. Only thing left after that is the knowledge game. There are several guides online already that provide this information for characters. To speed up the learning process, I usually need to look at the combo on paper while performing it. After a bit, it fall into muscle memory. It is painful when side switching, but eventually it will click for you.
The replays got a feature where you can go back and see what you could have possibly done different in that section of the fight. They also sometime give you suggestions on how to punish somethings as well. They will help alot!
The Tekken tournament/community is probably the biggest of the main fighting games(street fighter, Mortal Kombat). You definitely gonna need time to figure out different character strengths and weaknesses. Like Kuma has power and is a bigger target. Whereas females like Xiaoyu, lili etc are speedy but lack the same power as Kuma. Definitely gotta do some testing
a great part about tekken is that the fighters are all rounded pretty well. you can destroy any character with another once you get the hang of your main and stick to the strengths of that character.
Afro, Id really recommend doing the story first. It's a good way to practice and not rage at real people. Although Hard will make you rage, its nuts. Also, the Arcade Battle is like a little mini story mode that also acts as a good tutorial. Lastly, you just need to go into practice mode with your main and just practice combos. It has a good system of letting you put combo strings on the screen while you play and combo challenges that are pretty good. Basically, as tempting as it is, you should save Online Ranked for last because you are going to get beat up and its gonna be infuriating
You gotta go look at your character’s movelist. They have sample combos for you to look at and try so you can understand your character better. Special controls is gonna cripple you longterm. Also it’s probably better to stick with one character and learn to be good with them first. Promise you’ll get better if you do that.
Key things to learn in order. 1) it’s all about fun, seriously the game can be super stressful 2) punishment (10f punisher) jab checking is a great way too see if something is punishable or not. 3) basic combos, learn something easy to remember and simple enough to do in the heat of battle 4) Movement, remember tekken is 3D not 2D a lot of moves can be stepped or backdashed away from too punish them for whiffing 5) character knowledge, this one takes time as the movelist for each character is huge shit I’m still learning this and with the addition of new characters it’s only gotten bigger IMO this is the best way too start if you’re new too the game, as you go on you’ll figure out your own style and how too play but rule number 1 is top priority HAVE FUN. Hope this helps and you see this all the best.
THE NUMBER ONE BEST TIP! Spar with your buddies, im talking those long sessions so you can figure out what works and what doesn't. (Tho maybe I just wanna see you go up against the three idiots)
Afro, down forward to block sweeps and every low attack, try consecutive square and triangle combos like back and forth, each button represents a limb of your character to get free from grabs try pressing either square or triangle, try dodging into the Z axys to get leverage on the opponent this is the basics now pick a main and hit the training modes and learn your COMBOS and HOW TO JUGGLE
You can get hit while you roll. Instead of rolling forward and backward try doing a side roll. You can sidestep in Tekken which is like a dodge in elden ring if you think of it like that. Also I want to note you like to parry and a lot of games you play. You should choose a character with a bunch of different parries. I think there is two I know there is at least one but there should be two.
just keep doing it i love these vids man only way to get to the top is to never give up. Naruto didnt become hokage by stopping when things got rough. Goku didnt get ssgss by stopping everytime he died u got this stay positive and become a god
If you feel burnt out by losing, etc. Invite your friends or someone at your level and improve together with them. Learning by yourself can be a little too much sometimes. You Got this Afroo!!
matchups don't matter until a very very high level and if you want a fun character to just feel cool with i think yoshi would fit very well, he got a lot of tools to make matches more fun
Yo make sure you know your save moves, mixups, and combo starters Victor combo diagonal up and forward and circle then you can kinda just mash triangle King combo up and both punches then diagonal down forward and then x o then square then back x then run up and press triangle and circle
good tips for victor and king. id add to it by saying with victor, triangle and circle is your best friend sometimes square. with king, you can press two buttons at the exact same time to get some of the nutty stuff. you can do simultaneous buttons with many characters to get grabs and other things
Here are some tips I have in mind: 1. Learn your movement. Sometimes you can step back or to the side to dodge some attacks and punish their attacks. 2. In Tekken there are no "this character x beats y". Their are only archetypes like grapplers, rushdown, pressure, CH Fishing, mix-ups, and zoners. Sometimes these archetypes mix with each other like King is a grappler but he can mix-up of either throwing you or combo you trying to hit buttons. Learning the characters archetypes helps with the idea of how to deal with them. 3. Practice your combos in practice mode with and without the wall.
Watching replays, Super ghost battle mode and arcade quest are good ways to also learn through battle analysis which is the key to tekken. You got this Afro
Sadly special style just can't really cut it as you move up. It just locks out so much of your kit. The arcade quest side Story thing has some simple but really helpful tutorials as you go through it. Like character Specific easy combos and how to do some simple counter moves to stop spammers. Highly recommend it
6:58 BTW, the reason you got hit with the Rage Art (Ultimate move) is because you were still in your recovery frames. What that means is your character is still in the animation of your previous attack and when you’re in that phase you can’t do anything so even if you press block you will still get it. If you slow the video down to 0.25 speed you’ll see what I’m saying, Victor is still retracting his sword when you got hit. When your opponent is in their recovery frames, that’s the BEST time to punish, Rage Art, launch etc.
someone get this man a coach😂for real afro PLAY THE DAMNED STORY MODE ITS THERE FOR A REASON its serving as a story and tutorial dont just jump to ranked thats like fuck around and find out
Afro brotha man... you need to pick one character and work with them in the lab they only path to succese in this game is dedication and hard work at this level putting all your efforts in one character is better then learning 4 at once.
Best Tip for any New Player: Play through all of Arcade Quest. The game literally teaches you so many strong core mechanics that evovle your game more than you know and incentivizes you to memorize them. DO NOT SKIP TUTORIALS! The Less You Know, The More You Lose. Specialty Moves are also a crutch by literal definition. Its only good for sampling out a character you find interesting.
Only AfroSenju gaslights himself by thinking he's HIM, Lmao. Btw the first guy didn't run... if u read the prompt that you clicked okay on, you would've realized that it was a network error that sent you back to main page.
1. Don't worry about matchups in terms of x character does well against y character. that doesn't matter at all until you're at a very high level. Learn what your character can do against each character
2. Go to training mode and learn at least all of the moves in the "main techniques." It will be way better in the long run to learn how to do the moves yourself. The special style will make you plateau quickly
3. Learn all of the different ways you can wake up off the floor. There's many videos online that list all of the options, but they all have strengths and weaknesses
4. Choose one character and commit to learning them. Jumping between too many characters at the beginning will not allow you to improve at a steady pace.
5. Tekken is hard. Don't put the pressure of winning all the time on yourself. Allow yourself to lose a lot, but always learn from it
Edit: clarified the first point
I would argue that knowing what is the "gameplan" and most prominent moves of each character is important, but that can be done 1 at a time with the replay system. Play against a character, and if you get knowledge checked just go to the replay of that match and study it, they even give a lot of resources now to help you.
Mentality is also a big part of playing at ur best so working on not getting tilted fast is probably a good idea most people overlook or struggle with it too so if u work on it u can get that down u could make people tilt and play bad as a game plan
Yep you're right about multiple characters "Don't fear the man who knows 1000 different kicks, fear the man that practiced 1 kick 1000 times"
Also note on No. 4. You need to diligently choose a character to learn as a beginner. It needs to be simple and not that gimicky. Avoid Yoshimitsu and Kuma if possible
1000% correct on learning one character well rather than spreading yourself thin. Would be my main advice tbh

Hey Afro some tips here
1) To block you dont need to hold back or diagonally back down. You can block High and Mid attacks by not touching your movement stick, Lows need to be blocked by holding Down (Just down no diagonal)
2) Throws can be teched by watching which hand leads the throw, its fast but One Hand will be the most visible when throwing. If it leads with the left hand you press square if its the right hand you press triangle
3) I dont recommend playing in specialty mode, from my knowledge its essentially the same combo for whatever button you press. It can make it easy for the enemy player to block your attacks. Plus youll have a better understanding of your chosen character
4) Learn to be patient and block any attack string and STRIKE the moment you see an opening. This doesnt necessarily mean attack the moment their combo ends because they can stagger jabs and different multi hit attacks after a combo. Thats why you need to be patient and block, learn your enemies habits.
5) Grabs and High attacks can be avoided by ducking (holding STRAIGHT down) some grabs are Mids so ducking can put you into a state to be grabbed so its always good to remember to sidestep or back off if you feel they may grab
6) Neutral is the name of the game, Win the Neutral to earn your turn and combo them to death! Poke them until they have no health
You got this and remember NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!
Edit: After reading the comments I realized holding back is better for blocking so block back and diagonally. I'm learning and new too so I appreciate the advice guys!
Afro Please read
Very good advice 👏👍
To expand on what somebody else said, always block lows diagonally as doing this will help you get out of moves such as King's alley kick.
11:00 Afro getting the achievement "Relax, you can do it" while he's going off about the win is ironic comedy gold 🤣
Completely goes over his head haha
"I BLOCKED" is gonna be the most used phrase playing this game lmao
Nah I had game robbed against kazuya he did raw super could’ve sworn I blocked
Afro has become the very thing he swore to destroy, a rage quitter.
Tbh to think he can jump back in to fighting games and be half as decent as he was without training or practice after years is arrogant.
He wants to be good at a game serie he barely even played without knowing the fundamentals and hitting the training mode, I mean, what was gonna happen ?

Afro, I love your content .
But you gotta learn these combos. Go to practice.
Do some combat trials .
After that do some combat trials as well.
But stay off the special moves . Please .
Even so take it off the controller or fight pad.
Not with gameplay like that lmao
1) Pick a character and learn their basic BnBs (Easy Bread and Butters)
2) Ground, Wall and Air followups.

Don't focus on getting wins, focus on learning. L's come with the territory. Wise man said "You gotta get washed before you get clean."

Some tips from a player who's played since T3:
-Ofc pick characters that you really like or are drawn to
-Every single Mishima (Kazuya, Jin, Devil Jin) has a weakside, which is their left. Sidestep left and you can overcome a big advantage with that. (Not too sure about Reina since she's new)
-Jumping in this game is a no-no, don't do it early on until you learn a bit more about delayed hop-kicks
-Learn your characters main moves, aka OP moves that they have that will give you a big advantage. (Example: Jin's 4 on hit connect will allow you to use his 1+2 heat engager immediately)
-Try to learn juggles/staple combos.
Don't sidestep left against devil Jin, he has an answer for that in T8, his morning crow stance is insane and spammable

You gotta learn the inputs on your own
You will become very easy to read and you’ll just be doing the same moves over and over with little variation. As well as the auto combos the game gives you are very basic and are not the most damaging combos.
One more small note: There are 1 of 3 ways to break a grab depending on said grab.
A 1 break: Pressing square
A 2 break: Pressing triangle
Or.
A 1+2 break: Pressing square and triangle at the same time.
Hope this helps! Learning Tekken by no means is an easy task and it takes people months to even get decent at the game so don't get discouraged. Keep at it, learn the combos and the punishes and you'll slowly improve.

lol Game developers are tired of people skipping the tutorials. YOU GON LEARN OR YOU GON GET WREKT. 🤣

True, it explains how to break grabs properly which would be good for him after raging against King lmao
here's some advice: STOP USING THE BABY MENU AND LEARN THE GAME.
Gotta eat my words from the last video, Afro came through with a second Tekken video. I'm here for the journey
Man, after last video’s whooping I’m impressed you came back😂
These tekken players are of a different breed lol. I got folded up like clean clothes on a sunday morning lol.
Yup, that usually happens with Legacy fighters
@@_Jay_Maker_definitely not , wtf does getting the 💩 kicked out of you solve!? 😂
@@dmcfail987It can show you the weaknesses you have with your character. For example, if you find yourself constantly being grabbed after your hit strings, you then can go to training mode to see what other move strings that your character can do. Playing opponents gives you a reason to go to training mode, rather than doing some boring combo for 30 min
Honestly I would just recommend playing the arcade mode, as it teaches you some of the fundamentals of Tekken.
I was crying 😂💀
Edit: I just saw the end of the video and I’m crying even more.
Many a block was uttered, but nary a block was seen
Just a few tips for Afro or anyone else who may need them-
1. Some moves are extremely negative on block so even though you may be blocking afterwards you will get hit depending on how fast your opponent is.
2. Rage arts are very unsafe lol always use them during a combo or while being hit
3. You can duck grabs if you have a hard time teching them or until u get the timing right
How do you do that and how can I combine, that wouldn’t mess up the other binds? I’m on Xbox

Get your Dubs up Afro, I BELIEVE IN YOU ‼️
I hope Afro stays with it long enough to actually learn Tekken.
Most of them will be countered by pressing (1), (2), or (1+2)
2. This combo could be initiated by pressing:
- (Sidestep + 4)
- (1), (2), (4), (3), (1)
- (Back), (Forward), (4)

Need this to be a series
Lol seeing bro play on carebear buttons with his energy is hilarious 🤣😂
If your really struggling with controls of grabbing go settings and you can add the quicker input for grabs
You mad funny they need to give you a commentator spot on something, anything you would kill it hahah.
24:53 me when I step on my dog’s tail by accident 😂😂😂😂
💀💀
You should try granblue versus. Its very easy to understand controIs whole still being really fun.
Definitely gotta do some testing
a great part about tekken is that the fighters are all rounded pretty well. you can destroy any character with another once you get the hang of your main and stick to the strengths of that character.
haven't laugh this well in ages. thank you afrosenju
Promise you’ll get better if you do that.
you were sweating before the game even started lol
Key things to learn in order.
1) it’s all about fun, seriously the game can be super stressful
2) punishment (10f punisher) jab checking is a great way too see if something is punishable or not.
3) basic combos, learn something easy to remember and simple enough to do in the heat of battle
4) Movement, remember tekken is 3D not 2D a lot of moves can be stepped or backdashed away from too punish them for whiffing
5) character knowledge, this one takes time as the movelist for each character is huge shit I’m still learning this and with the addition of new characters it’s only gotten bigger
IMO this is the best way too start if you’re new too the game, as you go on you’ll figure out your own style and how too play but rule number 1 is top priority HAVE FUN. Hope this helps and you see this all the best.
THE NUMBER ONE BEST TIP!
Spar with your buddies, im talking those long sessions so you can figure out what works and what doesn't.
(Tho maybe I just wanna see you go up against the three idiots)
Afro you kill me 😂 Please keep making these
Afro, down forward to block sweeps and every low attack, try consecutive square and triangle combos like back and forth, each button represents a limb of your character to get free from grabs try pressing either square or triangle, try dodging into the Z axys to get leverage on the opponent this is the basics now pick a main and hit the training modes and learn your COMBOS and HOW TO JUGGLE
down forward does NOT block any low
@@deathhy7590Bro does not know about low parries
@@oneofthekindscarf8612 bro does not know the difference between a block and a parry.
Down forward is a parry and won't block all you need is down to block lows everything else is just do nothing or press and hold back to block
All yall trippin because I said block instead of parry bet I kick your asses perfect in a match watch yo'selves
24:58 Bro funna be the new LTG at this point 😂😂😂
Yo make sure you know your save moves, mixups, and combo starters
Victor combo diagonal up and forward and circle then you can kinda just mash triangle
King combo up and both punches then diagonal down forward and then x o then square then back x then run up and press triangle and circle
good tips for victor and king. id add to it by saying with victor, triangle and circle is your best friend sometimes square. with king, you can press two buttons at the exact same time to get some of the nutty stuff. you can do simultaneous buttons with many characters to get grabs and other things
Here are some tips I have in mind:
When your opponent is in their recovery frames, that’s the BEST time to punish, Rage Art, launch etc.
someone get this man a coach😂for real afro PLAY THE DAMNED STORY MODE ITS THERE FOR A REASON its serving as a story and tutorial dont just jump to ranked thats like fuck around and find out
Please keep the tekken videos coming Afro 🙏🏽
Afro brotha man... you need to pick one character and work with them in the lab they only path to succese in this game is dedication and hard work at this level putting all your efforts in one character is better then learning 4 at once.
Keep going Afro, i know you can do it!
Best Tip for any New Player:
Play through all of Arcade Quest.
FR dude needs to calm down and turn off specialty mode and hit some practice sessions. you can't claim to be him while playing assisted.
21:33 Buggy the clown😂
At this point Afro, you are slowly becoming Low Tier God. Don't be that scrub, be better that.
