I loved Team 17 games. They had that sort of demo scene polish about them.
Amiga Power had some beef with Team 17 and low scored pretty much all their games, to the point Team 17 took them to court over it. I did a video on it a whole ago.
I'll have to watch this. I just found this bizarre website, and I'm like, "Who is maintaining this and what is going on?"
Team 17 always gave a quality product for Amiga. They were Amiga coding experts, no sloppy ST ports here.
What every the type of game they set out to made it was always best in its class, sonically as well. Am sure they have a games in every category.
I did enjoy the Alien Breed games, I always likened them to "gauntlet" in look and gameplay.
Alien Breed, I loved that one! Really atmospheric too
yeah its a good one. I still prefer Chaos engine though over it...maybe its cos ive never really been into gauntlet type games
I played Chaos Engine on Mega Drive, Very cool game, Another decent Gauntlet style game is Smash Tv
Good show. As an Alien/Aliens fan I played the stuffing out of Alien Breed/SE. (Lynette Reed's calming voice warning me of my impending doom is my biggest miss about today's games.) Arcade Pool was nice and relaxing, but agree that some of their other games favoured cosmetics over gameplay. (Looking at you Body Blows series, Kingpin/Arcade Bowling, Alien Breed 3D.) I read there was some spat with the Amiga Power crew, which may have resulted in those lower scores.
No 8 footage is for the first level of the first Alien Breed and it is the same level as shown for No 5. Good list anyway and the Project X music is indeed fantastic. I could never get past the second level. You've also highlighted Arcade Pool which I must try and Qwak which I must avoid ;)
sorry i had them all in a folder and didnt pick the right one when producing
yes! Worms (not only Director's cut) was the best game of this genre... A kind of "Scorched Tanks". Naming characters was a part of a pun with friends :))
Again a wonderful list👍 simply loved playing the Alien Breed series🥰Body Blows, Superfrog and Worms was great to😉 Next up Games by Ocean🤔
that would be a great Video and i will do it for C64 and Amiga
old style gaming that would be awesome👍 so many great games on both systems😀
Completed Alien breed 1 and 2 lol
Team 17? Aaaah, they were *THE* dudes for my money, back in the day...well, along with the Bitmap Bros, before I forget. I bought many of the T17 games you mention, but I also picked up some 'naughty' floppy disks from my local car boot sale for a quid each. If I liked the game, I'd then buy a genuine copy. Top game for me was Superfrog, with the Alien Breed series very close behind. Loved QUAK, but I always thought they could've polished up the graphics a bit more as they were a bit crude by T17's usual high standards.
I wasn't interested in Worms too much (and I still aint, for some reason), but I did enjoy a fair few bouts on Body Blows, i.e. mostly the original game, not so much the sequels. Anyway, if any developer could make the Amiga look like a genuine 16-bit console (or even a 32-bit console if the A1200's AGA chipset is taken into consideration), then Team 17 was your man. Or should I say "men"?
Happy days, OSG - back then I really looked forward to reading about the latest T17 game developments with relish as I knew that it meant only one word: 'quality'. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, my friend....great stuff! 😉
Thanks for your continual viewing and comments mate :-)
As a 14 year old when I got an Amiga 600, I think I bought 2 games in 4 years. Everyone just copied the games at my school. It was a great computer but the ease at which to pirate its games/software was probably it's downfall.
I loved ATR I remember the magazines being quite hard on it at the time.
I remember getting a box set one with BodyBlows, SuperFrog and something else in highlight of the year :D
i cant for the life of me think how they came up with 38% though i actually like it better than super skidmarks
@@oldstylegaming May have been something to do with the trouble Team 17 had with certain magazines, something went on, each side taking digs at the other, refusing to send games for reviews all kinds of stuff. I had Super Skidmarks never really got on with it. Worms my mom had to get me from a catalogue as nowhere was selling anything Amiga round here by that point. I'm still trying to think what was in that 3 box set, the 3rd game must have been right rubbish if I cant remember it :p
The 3rd game was called OverDrive, very much like ATR but I don't even remember it for some reason.
was it overdrive?
@@oldstylegaming Yep that was the one had to go look it up, no idea why I don't even remember it.
@@oldstylegaming They had a beef with Amiga Power and would not even send them review copies 🤣
Overdrive and assassin, both of those games were bloody brilliant
Amiga Power had there favourite 'pay big money for advertising' developers so Team 17 and others never got the scores they deserved. I loved Contact! Not the deepest fighter but it looked amazing 👍
Thank you for this video! Also as same for Psygnosis and Bitmap Brothers I didnt know all the titles, so got some work to do😁 Good to see your planning Ocean. Commodore/Amiga have a special place in my hearth, realy nice to see these vids! Project X is my favorite, didnt know there was a special edition, going to try that one out soon!
Superfrog very top game of Team17 for me
And F17 Challenge too ;)
I loved the idea and the presentation of the Alien Breed games, but I didn't love the gameplay. Specifically I hated that you had limited ammo, but there were unlimited enemies. When I play a game with large, scrolling levels like that where you're free to explore, I will usually wander around the level until I mostly memorize it and know where everything is. I make sure I've gotten all the items and checked out each part of the map. That's a hell of a lot harder to do when you have an endless supply of enemies to waste your ammo on.
ATR is best to play with friends! One of the best games to unite small companies :)
Superfrog is my fave. 🐸
Yeah, Superfrog all the way for me!
That Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge music though. Quality.
I use any excuse to fit that music into a video lol
Great video, i recently got back into collecting for the amiga so was looking for games worth picking up.
My favourite Team 17 one was Stay another Day when they wore those silly fluffy coats
Ah ah ah! I talk To you a bout team 17 on your last video!great ! Thank you osd ! ;-)
Completely agree with WormsDC taking the top spot. It's a shame so few people know about it, but as far as I'm concerned, it is easily the best Worms game. It improved vastly on the original, while retaining the crazy chain reactions and crisp graphical style. The later games just felt tame to me.
Nice video man had a lot of these games back in the day even had a soft spot for body blows, an yes i know it was a bad game but i was stupid back then :) :)
the Alien Breed game looks just like the Alien Browser games you playd at school when you were supposed to work on the PC..
A perfect list!!!
For me Team17 = Martyn Brown, Andreas Tadic, Rico Holmes, Allister Brimble .. Some games in your list not made by them. Just published by Team17.
actually none of the games on this list were developed by Team17 but published and known as Team17 games. I could have had Apidya on too but thought that was wrong as it was originally published by Kaiko but Team17 released it later
@@oldstylegaming
Alien Breed, Alien Breed 2, Alien Breed TA, Superfrog, Project X are all developed by Team17.
ATR, Qwak, Arcade Pool, Worms are partially developed by Team17
Only Super Stardust has nothing to do with Team17 from development point of view, that's all Boodhouse's work.
Also I think Miami Chase was their first game not Full Contact, I might be wrong though.
The only game I personally would of added (no idea where in the list) is Ultimate Body Blows unless CD32 games are not included.
@megablast - I would also add Stefen Boberg to that list and maybe Peter Tuleby.
great upload thx mate....
Great video! Nice to hear a mackem accent!
My mate the first Stardust on his Amiga, yet the logo on the discs only read "Ardu", so we used to make fun and call it Ardu in dramatic voice over type voices
My friend thats not Alien Breed 2 Horror continues, thats Alien Breed 1 SE 92 and its awesome too. THere is a mistake on the video , you show Abreed se 92 and not abreed 2 in number 8. Btw the video is excellent
Yeap, Worms for me! (and it's the only Team 17 game I've played).
Loved Team17, remember when they started off as a PD company called 17-Bit Software, used to get all the early Amiga demo discs from them, great times. Like you said Team17 was a guarantee of technical quality, not always gameplay wise though, no ST port overs here! Great list m8, I'd change the order slightly and maybe add Assassin and Overdrive but that's just my opinion.
Any chance you could do a list of Cinemaware games, they was another great software house.
Hahaha you already asked for this twice...I'm hopeless mate ....I'm gonna do it for ya this time though ;-)
old style gaming lol 3rd time lucky maybe? 😊
Mitico alien breed!
Surprised Body Blows wasn’t on the lost
Some classics there bud 👍
yeah mate when you saw the team17 logo you knew you were getting quality...well most of the time
Team17 and Psygnosis always meant great graphics and sound
Thanks for another great upload , this really makes me wish I could get my 500 working right
What's up with your Amiga?
@@oldstylegaming the whole bottom row of keys dont work on the keyboard, I took it apart to have a look(two years ago lol). From what I could tell, and going by memory, I think I need a new kb membrane
As I recall, they are big $$$
Alien Breed 3D II for AMIGA is great
I thinkl I bought nearly every Team 17 game
Alien breed tower assault and worms DC
Please, construct a video with the best amiga programs and utilities out there :)
some classics..... nice :D oh and second :P
There were a few more that could have made the list too ...its hard when software houses make a lot of good games
@@oldstylegaming indeed
Worms should be an olympic sport.
I used to really like Assassin. To me it's the Amiga's version of Strider. I also used to play Bodyblows. It was good at the time but I doubt it holds up that well today compared to other 16 bit fighting games like SF2.
Beautiful games but I think let down by gameplay and controls
@@oldstylegaming I agree. I tried playing Assassin recently and I kept dying on the first level because I couldn't jump over a bottomless pit. I was using an emulator with an Xbox one controller, so maybe it would have been better on a retro style joystick. I think having a dedicated jump button on console controllers has spoiled us a bit. Great channel btw, always enjoy your videos 👍
Super Frog😉
Super Frog had a superb MS-DOS port. Runs really well even on slow 386SX machines.
Project X also had good port but a bit worse, and Worms on PC have much better graphics than Amiga original. Although DC never released on anything else than Amiga.
I've also had Silverball from Team17 but it was just a set of 5 pinball tables on Epic Pinball engine. Good game with great art and music though.
On PC Team17 had nice hires logo.
Their games used to be impressive but as far as playability was concerned I'd say they were quite lacking. My favourite has to be Worms (I actually played it on DOS PC) with Qwak close second. I also like F17 Challenge and Arcade Pool, that were developed in Italy. Gaming press here was quite proud that games made by small italian teams were published by the UK giant Team 17.
i loved all team 17 games, but i am one of those that would put super frog number 1, if the amiga lived longer i think it would have been the mario or sonic of the amiga, much better than zool
not really my genre but i can appreciate that its good
@@oldstylegaming yeah you mentioned that in the video
6:13 - you tell about Chaos Engine here... Was Chaos Engine outperformed ever at least by gameplay?
As a top down run n gun I don't think so tbh. Gauntlet was obviously the granddaddy of these kind of games but I prefer chaos engine even over that...but in the end that's just my opinion
@@oldstylegaming I'd put Alien Breed in the survival horror category as you have to carefully juggle your health, ammo and keys. Chaos Engine is more an arcade shooter.
ATR isn't exactly Super Skidmarks, Super Cars II, Micro Machines or Indy Heat. That's why it scored so low. I can't remember if this was the game that made Martyn Brown lose it with AP, or if it was something else. Some real stinkers in the list though, and pretty serious omissions.
i dont think so...but hey we all entitled to our opinions
Was it Amiga Power, Team 17 accused of having a vendetta against them?
im not sure but that would answer the question why so low for the scores
@@oldstylegaming Yeah it was a big thing. It got a bit legal at one point. I''m guessing it was that magazine.
This video should be called "The Best Alien Breed Games in Order of Greatness..."
But that would only be 3.... Or 4...or 5 games if you include 3d. ...I had to have them all in as they are totally different games from each other unlike worms or lemmings
I’m assuming you’re not counting the budget version of alien breed because the swines at team 17 removed the ending from the budget version and replaced it with a message Saying what did you expect it’s the budget version and buy their next game.
This is the budget version lol
old style gaming You do realise that’s EA levels of evil lol .
@@darkzentai7417 Haha yeah ...I'm used to crappy endings though as I had a c64 lol
old style gaming imagine playing god of war today and the ending was just a congratulations screen .
@@darkzentai7417 Haha yeah yous be gutted
Though a long time ATARI STe hardcore fan I have always recognized the high quality of Team17 games on Amiga. Yet I'm sorry to say that they did not make Super Stardust/Stardust. It was a HOUSEMARQUE game. It even came with an STe flavour, one of the best ATARI game ever made. ua-cam.com/video/AJcAPM_dMeA/v-deo.html
Games I find spoil the enjoyment by being to hard with some end of level nasties being stupid hard . Me and my mate played alien breed alot but we just gave up in the end which is a shame because your missing out and your not getting value for money just stuck on one level
I never liked ATR or similar games because of the slappy controls. They were almost unplayable.
they never released a bad game, even their worst Full Contact is alright in a Yie ar Kung fu kinda way.
oh and Superfrog is the best amiga platformer in my eyes. love your vids...keep em up and happy new year:)
I never understood what people (and especially magazines) liked about the 2D Alien Breeds. To me this was a very boring series. The lack of ammo took the most of it, as the fun was in killing aliens and not in running away from them. Alien Breed 3D was great, though, The first part being the better game than the 2nd, because of the great level design. Also Body Blows Galactic and Ultimate where great.
Worms on the other hand is one of the most overrated games of all time. It was just a boring copy of Scorched Tanks with more mainstreamed graphics and design, but much worse and shallower gameplay. So it was one of the earliest casual games. Project X of course is probably the best horizontal shooter on the Amiga.
i think that Apidya takes that title well for me anyway. I find Project X a bit samey after a while.... T-Zer0 is technically the best horizontal shooter but again i think its a bit boring
I liked Apidya very much, too. But the insect theme made it feel more like a novelty than a serious game to me :)
T-Zer0, well yes. One of those later Amiga games that tried to make use of the advanced hardware, but IMHO sadly like none of those are really worth playing.
Please do a sensible software video
ill look into that
Fantastic, just recently found your channel and subscribed, gotta say out of all the consoles and Computers I've had none come close to the amiga, gaming these days can be boxed into sports, driving, fighting and shooters such as c.o.d, younger gamers have no idea of the diversity and choice we used to have, including couch co-op. Thanks again.
That ATR looks and runs crap, Full Contact, despite it’s limitations craps all over that game.
Erm not for me it doest ....fighting games in general didn't really work on the Amiga I don't think ...apart from IK+
old style gaming Nearly all the Body Blows games scored over 80% so someone back in the 90s thought they worked lol. I’m pretty sure there was a reason ATR scored so low. Maybe it was all the better racers done in that style, Badlands, Indy Heat, Ivan “Iron Man” Stewart’s Super Off Road, Micro Machines 1+2 and Super Cars 1+2 😁
@@MudSluggerBP well i like it and i f*ckin hate body blows it looks class but is crap to play...1 button and directional moves just doesnt do it for me
old style gaming but isn’t that how IK+ works lol, and Barbarian and that is Awesome 🤟🏻
@@MudSluggerBP ik+ works cos it's simple. Barbarian the same. Mortal kombat was one of the best looking Amiga fighters but arcade fighters just don't convert to 1 button well and bodyblows is that type of game
