DS9 is an alpha quadrant show. Perhaps the director used the music to evoke imagery of "that's where we are going", beta taboo ignoring of course. I'm guessing they used DS9 instead of TNG music as that is strongly associated with the Enterprise, and not as recent as DS9. Another example of this is in Stargate Universe, when McCay first appears you can hear the first bit of the Atlantis theme tune. But all of this could be wrong and maybe they re-used the sound sample from DS9 save money on musicians.
@@jaffacakemonster53 I think DS9 was still on the air at this time so it would make sense to use that one. And it's a quick recognizable thing since it's only a few notes
Its like how in CSI Miami when Emily Procter became pregnant, they worked around it first by having her in the lab in a white coat, and then when she got bigger they had her always behind a desk or there was something in the way of the camera so you could only see her face.
I mean, it's less "the difference between the quadrants" and more "the writers made all this little shit up on the fly and didn't keep great track of it, thus unintentionally retconning themselves every few episodes between three series and film production"
This isn't the first time Voyager uncovered some kind of "abandoned technology" during their years in the Delta Quadrant; the planet made entirely of water from Thirty Days had an ancient containment field generator dating back 100K years. It makes one wonder if a race existed long before most civilised species even existed and had a vast Empire of sorts. Question is, what happened to them?
I know that there was a race called the Iconians that existed roughly two hundred thousand years before the events of star trek. They had gateways that could allow travel to any planet in the galaxy that featured as subjects of episodes of TNG and DS9. I don't know what happened to them in lore.
Considering the Borg operate in the region I wouldn't be too surprised if they either got assimilated or abandoned the Delta Quadrant for a safer place.
yeah and they could not build a fleet of these things? multi vector assault mode on a dozen ships means you got 36 ships with repairable shielding etc..
I wouldn't do it. As the doctor I wouldn't do it, and as the captain I wouldn't do it. The ship is just a few minutes from exiting transmission range, and as I recall there was no way to guarantee his return, so as far as Voyager is aware they'll never get him back. But go ahead, send him packing on the spur of the moment. So many Star Trek episodes are so heavily based on luck.
Who says the uniforms didn't have pockets? See this clip. Their pants also had'em but what they carried fit flat, plus the black color made it less obvious or able to see a bulge.
So the EMH was their only proper medical officer, basically a godsend after their original doctor died in the first episode, and yet they're willing to send him halfway across the galaxy over a link so unstable that they're unable to open a comlink to the other ship. They even had a B plot in this episode where Tom Paris is trying and failing to program a new EMH in case he's unable to get back to Voyager. It doesn't seem like a great move in terms of command decisions.
They were expecting him to explain the situation to those on the other side and then return back to the ship. They were not expecting him to encounter difficulties.

Chakotay is such a simp that he can't be asked to tell Seven to stop stealing shit, try to mediate a dispute, ask her to be a proper member of the crew, and just makes Torres sound like she's wrong because she went to her commanding officer to help when she tried to handle it herself with Seven who refused to even consider that she's wrong.
I thought it was funny that B'lana told Seven that she was rude. Well, I guess she should know,. She is always extremely rude, arrogant, aggressive, and bossy. She is my least favorite character on Voyager.
You're a senior officer on this ship, not a winey little bitch! It's a shame they couldn't quite pull off the sass and strength the character was meant to have
I just want to know, since the Voyager itself travels hundreds of times faster than the speed of light - what kind of signals do they use that are infinitely faster than even that? _(quite literally infinite speed based on this clip?)_
@Jessica The Azu Unless its the same problem as what happened here and as with power lines in real life. With real life powerlines, you need transformers to keep the electricity running through the lines at full strength, and the problem the show stated with the first two tries was that the message degraded. The only reason they even tried was because they were using a relay station. To sum up the theory: Things traveling through subspace may be able to cross the galaxy at those kinds of speeds, but without relay stations or a strong enough signal, too much would be lost in the stream for it to matter.
