Finally, a good tutorial on how to make a simple macrame plant hanger!! I can see how some people may get confused if they have never made the knots before...I have done friendship braclets so that helped...I just paused the video if I needed more time....thanks so much for posting this...can't wait to watch the others!!
I'm so glad to see someone making macrame tutorials! I remember searching about a year or so ago and not having much luck. These are really unique designs, can't wait to try them.
Thank you for the tutorial. I macrame'd a lot many years ago. I know the twisty knots as "half knots" the left/right flat knots are "square knots", just in case anyone is reading a pattern.
I made this in 10 minutes with paracord from Home Depot. It came out beautifully. Great tutorial. I just love this hanger and get complements on it all the time!
thanks Ginger. I managed to make a nice hanger. It was a terrific refresher course. I haven't done anything like this since I was about 12 years old. I guess the relatives are all going to be getting hangers for xmas :)
This hanger has about 2 feet + of extra cord at the end of it, and I made mine for a bigger pot size ( 1 additional row of knots) and added wood beads, to it also. If your on a tight budget like me, and want to keep cord cost down, you can easily cut 2ft less off the starting cord lengths and have enough safely to complete. I used 3mm braided macrame cord.
Thank you for such an informative video. I found the instructions very easy to follow, and I just used the pause button on close ups to see how the knots were tied. happy macrame!
Thanks so much for your tutorials- i have been able to make quite a few variations of plant hangers- just by watching your videos- they are really great!
Why did we need 2 ropes that were 3-body lengths long??? That confused me because we only used 1 of the 2 3-body lengths ropes at the beginning that you said to separate.
As you told me I needed two longer cords, should the original twist be using both of these ie two from each side? Just wondering why I have two each side and only working with one, please advise xx PS love your tutorials 💜
Always beautiful work! Do you by chance have a nice youtube or instructions for a Tree of Life wall hanging. The ones I see on line are kind of tacky looking for simple but nice. Thanks for any help Ginger. You are Great!!
hay Ginger loved your instruction one question I had was about the two that were suppose to be longer . I finished the project, but the end did not come equal . one was short can you please send me a little more info about what I did wrong? Thanks
As far as I know, you didn't do anything "wrong" persay. It's mega confusing when the cord is all the same color. My best tip is doing one with all different colored cords, so you can work out how much more or less of that one, you need 👍 Hope that helps! I literally only just thought of that idea, hey. I'm about to do my first plant hanger & it is soooo much more complex than this one (there are like 5 different types of knots happening in mine & it'll be 24 strands (6 grouped strands) & nearly 2 meters long)! 😬 Tbh, I'm not trusting my gut & I'm freaking out - that's why I came on UA-cam for help! 👌 lol
Ok, don't get different colored cord, like I said before! Just stick different colors of tape around the ends of each cord!! L>R & if there's like 24 strands (like mine), number the tape 👍👍 That way, you can still have a pretty, finished hanger, that isn't a rainbow lol It'll also help you with which knots are next to tie, if you stop for a break 👍 I had another good reason, but I've forgotten! lol
I made one and added some beads, thanks so much for this tutorial. I made macrame items in the late 60's ;) I will move on to your other hangers! My question is did you mean 1 cord at 3 body lengths instead of 2 cords? 2:05
At 8.24 you say “you’re going to do a left handed square knot and a right handed square knot on all of THESE” ... what is “all of these”? Can you be more specific because I’m lost now. Am I using the long strings AND the short ones now?? Confused....
Did exactly what you said at the start. I figured out that I can't do a square Knott, as I have a single spiral and then I got lost after the twenty Knott's and I have no idea what you are doing 😭 why can't I do it
You mentioned thicknesses of the rope use and quoted in metric with the first then quoted imperial. Please could you quote both is 15mm and the equivalent in imperial as it's a bit confusing. Love your tutorials
Hi ginger, i Love watching you what you do. I have a Oval plantpot i like to hang it in one macrame hanger i just do not know how to do it.lg from Germany
I liked the tutorial and was able to make a hanger, but you moved so quickly through the second type of knots (left and right) that I was unable to get my knots to look like yours. Maybe slow down for a couple of examples.
I do enjoy your videos that being said I agree with Ivory C... you move quite quickly. I looked through your website to look for a begining slower version of making the square knot but did not see anything. You mention in the video that you have already showed this knot. where will I find this video.
I've made a few of your projects and couldn't figure out why it always seems like I have a TON of leftover rope at the end, like excessive. Then, I just realized that measuring in body lengths probably doesn't work out when I'm tall, lol! When you say body-lengths, what's the measurement for that so I'm not wasting so much cord?
Never mind, I just scrolled down and read that it's already been asked. Now it make sense, my arm-span/body length is 5'10", not 5'-- this explains the excessive leftovers, haha!
Hi Melisa, Love the tutorial but when you say what cord thickness you mention 1.5mm and then 3/16 inches 1/8 inches, did you mean inches for all sizes? On your site you have the type of cord you use but it didn't have the 1.5 mm size. I want to learn the "Plant Hangers for Beginners" but I want to have the correct material to make them.
I just found this video thank you!! I do have a question where did you get your hooks? I have another project they would be perfect for and i am not sure how to find them.
How would one hang a rectangle Potter? I have one that has ivy and my cat loves to eat it so I want to have it hang so he can’t get to it but I’m not sure how to hang it.
Olá, parabéns!!! Seu vídeo é muito bom. Poderia colocar legenda em português. Sou do Brasil, e ajudaria se colocasse opção de legenda em português ou idioma. Lindo trabalho. Parabéns 💖💛💜💙💚
HI GINGER; STARTED MACRAME PROJECT. PURCHASED CLOTHES RACK, BUT HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR METAL ESS SHAPE TO HANG ON RACK ONE END AND OTHER END TO HANG NEW PROJECT. BEEN TO HOME DEPOT, MICHAELS, JOANNS NOBODY HAS. WHERE CAN I PURCHASE?AKEMI NORITAKE
hey! your videos are so helpful, thank you! could you make a video on different ways to start plant hangers without metal rings? i've seen some sort of half hitch loop but can't figure out how they do that.
Antonia Boyle Averages Arm span is approx 5 feet. Arm span and a half is 7.50 feet. 2 arm spans 10 feet 2 arm and half 15 feet 3 arm spans 15 feet 3 arm and a half spans 22.50 feet 4 arm spans 20 feet 4 arm and a half 30 feet
Oh, THANK YOU, when she said 'body length', it stopped me cold and I started googling. Your reply is exactly what I was looking for. (I am shorter than average (by a bit more than a bit) and 'my' body length..... Well, you can see where that could make a difference)
you say to cut two pieces 3 body lengths, but i don't see where you use the other one. you only separate out ONE long piece, not two. and i didn't see in the video where you use the other one later on. so do you use ONE piece 3 body lengths or TWO pieces that long???
Same here did you ever figure out what happen? I cut all my string and remember she only split one long string in half when I was sitting with two long strings split in half!
What I think was done here is that she hung one end of each of the long pieces in line with all the shorter pieces and the other ends which would have been substantially longer would then allow her to use the lengths to make the multiple square knots needed for twisted spiral. Otherwise as I discovered, if the longer pieces were each dangled from their halfway point, the chord would simply not be long enough. Hope this helps but should have been better explained in the video

Thank you for such an informative video. I found the instructions very easy to follow, and I just used the pause button on close ups to see how the knots were tied. happy macrame!
Oh, I can't wait until we get to the one on the far right. Love it!!!! Love your vids :)
Hello, I love all his works, I like how he explains and how he shows all the materials, congratulations and thanks !!!!
Thanks so much for your tutorials- i have been able to make quite a few variations of plant hangers- just by watching your videos- they are really great!
You're very welcome - Melissa
Thank you so much. I've been wanting to learn macrame for years, and you have made it so easy and well explained. Loved them all❤️🇨🇴
I'm new at this and you make it easy to learn. Thanks.

Nice and cool🌹💞😊
I guess I was missing a strand or two but....it still turned out pretty nice! Thanks for your awesome tutorial.
I made my first Macrame plant hanger from your videos. Turned out great! Why the two at 3 body lengths?
Awesome. I've been searching for a tutorial like this for quite some time. Thank you!
Thank you for making it so easy to learn.
Very very nice,
Very easy method you teach us,
Thank you very much,

Super, bien expliqué . J' adore.
Ok , you kinda went straight from the longer cord too the shorter? Please explain why you did that change ?
hay Ginger loved your instruction one question I had was about the two that were suppose to be longer .
I finished the project, but the end did not come equal . one was short can you please send me a little more info about what I did wrong? Thanks
yes, that is a really good point! I hope we get an answer!

Helo mam new subscriber here from phillipines
Hi! How would like to know how do you call your last knot? The very last one. Thanks.
You mentioned thicknesses of the rope use and quoted in metric with the first then quoted imperial. Please could you quote both is 15mm and the equivalent in imperial as it's a bit confusing. Love your tutorials
so great talent 😍😍😍
thanks for sharig.its a very easy and clear tutorial.
Amazing work! Thank you!
Is there a tutorial for the one on the right with the stick?
Can you give clear measurements of the ropes please..?
Thank you it was great tutorial.
Hi ginger, i Love watching you what you do. I have a Oval plantpot i like to hang it in one macrame hanger i just do not know how to do it.lg from Germany
I love these videos!!! Thanks you so much! Question.....where do you get your rope and what is a fair price when I'm shopping? Thanks for the help!

I will definitely try this

in youtube you just can make any video go slowly, i always whatch videos like this in slow motion
hit pause & back it up a little. I do it throughout the entire process and it makes it much easier.
Or you can slow down the speed of the video to like .5×
thanks for mentioning this, I only realized yt had this feature recently.
I've made a few of your projects and couldn't figure out why it always seems like I have a TON of leftover rope at the end, like excessive. Is this the same hanger from video 2 (or 3)? Did you do the clear glass vase one because I missed it
Tô encantada! Seus trabalhos são lindos! Parabéns 👏👏👏👏👏
Love the boy
Hi Melisa, Love the tutorial but when you say what cord thickness you mention 1.5mm and then 3/16 inches 1/8 inches, did you mean inches for all sizes? On your site you have the type of cord you use but it didn't have the 1.5 mm size. I want to learn the "Plant Hangers for Beginners" but I want to have the correct material to make them.
Incrível, estou entusiasmada com o macrame, quero aprender muito!!
Adorei seus trabalhos 😍😍😍😍
Hey ginger... love your macrame videos.. May I ask where you purchase your big spools of cord?? I'd appreciate it.😊
I just found this video thank you!! I do have a question where did you get your hooks? I have another project they would be perfect for and i am not sure how to find them.
hi I would like to do this plant hanger, but I don't understand how many chord I need. Thank you so much and bye bye from Italy. Catia
Hammy’s cute!
Thank you Ginger!! the last one is my favorite but it seems as though you can't fit much of a plant in there,,,, is there any way to open it up more?
I love your tutorials but could you please list the materials used in your description?
I've updated my supply list in the description - thank you, Melissa
i love it so much 😍😍
BOM dia Deus abençoe sempre você tem um anjinho é um cachorrinho 😇 lindo
How many plant hangars about do you think 437 yards of cord would get me?
Thanks for sharing these. I’m learning slot. In your intro, you state the rope size as 1/8 inch, but the ropes are sold in metric. Is this 3MM rope?
Not sure if asked but I really like the storage bin in your videos. Where is it from? If you don't mind sharing :)
Julie Wolf It's actually an old locker from a demolished high school in my hometown! I love it too! Try searching antique stores. 😊
thank you, whère I buy the cord. And how do I know the cord length for each piece to work
i didn't think about needing a certain size rope, so i bought a color i liked in 4mm. is that too big to use for this project?
I’m thinking you only need one cord 3 times body length the other five two times as you’re only working one for left hand initially?
It's totally up to you.
Awesome!! I love this tutorial!!! I have one cuestion, though. Is the cord you use waxed?
How would one hang a rectangle Potter? I have one that has ivy and my cat loves to eat it so I want to have it hang so he can’t get to it but I’m not sure how to hang it.
Thank you for your sharing
Super lindo
Eu amei
Obrigada!!
Hi, What size pot did you have in this plant hanger please..
Is there a reason you use different size cords?
How long is your body length? Most of us will have a different length.
Whats the purpose of the two longer chords??
Olá, parabéns!!! Seu vídeo é muito bom.
Poderia colocar legenda em português. Sou do Brasil, e ajudaria se colocasse opção de legenda em português ou idioma.
Lindo trabalho. Parabéns 💖💛💜💙💚
Thank you.
Oh, and how much cord for each plant hanger will I need???
I've been looking for a macrame tutorial channel. So glad I found you and subscribed. Your dog is adorable! What breed is he?
Wendy Schlegel He is actually a Yorkshire Terrier, but he doesn't look like it! He's poorly bred, I guess! Haha

Akemi Noritake just hang it on a coat rack on a door or something
Where can you get this cord for a good cost?
Why do you switch from metric to imperial for cord sizes
Is the correct cord thickness imperative?
What uses of axtra. Cord waste??
Hi there!! Im loving your tutorials!! where do u get your large coils of rope? Thank you
jcalderon371 Hi there! Check out www.knotandrope.com! They are the best and cheapest that I have found. Happy crafting!
Melissa Erickson thank you so much!!!😊
i just pulled up the knotandrope website and there are so many choices!! which one is best for macrame projects??
hey! your videos are so helpful, thank you! could you make a video on different ways to start plant hangers without metal rings? i've seen some sort of half hitch loop but can't figure out how they do that.
Hi there, I was wondering where you get your ropes from?!
I've added links to my go-to supply list in the description below - Melissa
Where did you get the S hooks?
I know you measure by arm span but I'm not sure everybody has the same arm span, can I ask what your arm span is?
Antonia Boyle
Averages
Arm span is approx 5 feet.
Arm span and a half is 7.50 feet.
2 arm spans 10 feet
2 arm and half 15 feet
3 arm spans 15 feet
3 arm and a half spans 22.50 feet
4 arm spans 20 feet
4 arm and a half 30 feet
Oh, THANK YOU, when she said 'body length', it stopped me cold and I started googling. Your reply is exactly what I was looking for. (I am shorter than average (by a bit more than a bit) and 'my' body length..... Well, you can see where that could make a difference)
Thank you!!!!!

what material yarn is this??
You said we needed 2 strands of 3 body lengths but then only used one of them on the spiral idu why needed 2 strands
Hello! greetings from Tierra del Fuego - Argentina. Could you place subtitles in Spanish please? Thank you

😍👍😍
boa noite!! tem como traduzir em portugues sou brasileira
Anyone figured out how tall Crafty Ginger is? She uses body lengths to measure...but is she 6' for 4' tall? :)
