Umm.....I drove both of these vehicles from neighboring dealerships back to back, and I found their claims about the Accord's quietness and ride quality blatantly wrong. Note that I drove an Accord EX and a Sonata SEL, not top trims like Edmunds had.
The Accord was surprisingly loud and let in a lot more road noise than the Sonata, which I was disappointed in considering the Honda supposedly has active noise cancelling to keep it quiet. As for ride, I actually found the Sonata to be a little smoother and more isolated, but the Honda did have better handling, it felt more athletic, even though it also rode firmer than Hyundai.

*Neither* are a luxury vehicle. That's what Genesis and Acura are for. Stop the ridiculous materials comments for the sake of a opinion. This is the only review on UA-cam I've seen, and I've watched many, that say the Sonata uses lower quality materials. All others rave on the interior quality and materials used in the Sonata and I do mean all.
How can a vehicle "feel better" when you get in? Do yourself a favor and watch any of a dozen (CR, TFLC, Redline, Alex etc etc) other reviews of the Sonata. These two are in the minority in their opinion. It almost seems like the guy is dragging the female to his opinion. He makes a comment then stares are her until she agrees with a 'right'?
The *blind spot* cameras make 100% sense when used for BS monitoring. Notice they like the one camera Honda approach in the headunit though...hmmm. Smart park, Sonata is sold in more than just America. In nearly every other country parking spots are a fraction of the size we Americans have. Also, next time some dirtbag parks to close to your vehicle you'll understand its use. Notice that Tesla, Mercedes etc have a version of the same thing but you won't hear a why to theirs.

They picked the top trim levels with the top engine of both cars even though the top engine in the sonata makes less power than the base engine of the accord and they didn’t really consider engine performance a deciding factor. Also the sonata N wouldn’t be fair to compare to the 2.0t accord because it’s a performance oriented model vs a normal sedan that just has a more powerful engine.

That’s the case with any mainstream brand. The top selling trim for many mainstream brands is one trim above the base. Honda has stated that 2/3 CRVs sold are EX trims, it should be the same for the Accord and civic...
And whether you like it or not, the Accord,Civic, and CR-V lead in retail sales. Honda does not do fleet sales which is why Toyota sells more. But when it comes to actual people going and buying the cars, Honda leads in retail.
The civic has been leading in its class in retail sales. The Accord has outsold the Camry many times in retail. The CR-V has been leading in retail sales for ever.
Have you not noticed how rental car companies have a lot of Koreans/Toyota/Nissan/GM vehicles but never Hondas... that’s why. Honda does not do fleet sales so it will look like they sell less even thought individual consumers are choosing them over others.

We sat in both Accord Touring and new Sonata. My husband is 6'3" and all legs (like Tina Turner) and HATED the Sonata driver's seat. Felt squished with such a wide center console panel against his right leg. The same reason why I switched from a 2019 Elantra to a Kona. Yes, you can take a nap in the Accord, and with the Touring's ventilated heat AND COLD front seats, sold us on the difference. Now, with his lease coming up, and dealerships shut down during the COVID-19 Quarantine, we can better negotiate a price for the top of the line Accord!

We were so weirded out with the Smart Park (smat pak) and couldn't wait to try it out at the dealership but the guy was so rude, we never got a change. Besides, IF you have to park in such a tight space, aren't you afraid of getting the car side swiped or dinged? Good for garages I guess. To me, it's a gimmick and ONLY available on the top model so there's false advertising there.

Hyundai is going for those who want to stick to sedans for its firm ride and quick handling with sleek looks. Plus, everything in this review seems very subjective. You talk about noise with no actual decibel ratings. I saw other reviews saying Sonata is quieter than the Accord. Sonata uses laminated wind shield and front windows if you cared. If you want to compare cars, please dont keep mentioning the brand stereotypes yourself. Honda is family friendly blah blah was totally unnecessary for a comparison review. I like the LOOK of the Sonata much more, and the extra tech. But I have had the Accord for a couple of years and I gotta tell you, it is a great car. Sure there are few downsides. Those low profile tires can be quite noisy at speed on well worn interstates, the turning radius is among the worst I have ever seen on a car this small, as is the GPS system (not sure how they managed to turn a Garmin system into something this awful). But the 2 liter turbo is simply amazing, ride and handling are excellent (very tight in corners, especially in sport mode, when the extra stiff dampening kicks in) , the seats ARE great and love the HUD. And just general overall excellence in design and construction. In the end, I could never go back to an engine as small and underpowered as the Sonata has. It was dumb of Hyundai to dump its tried and true 2 liter turbo, which was standard in the previous top of the line Sonata design. I know a 2.5 turbo is coming in the new N line version of the Sonata, but I don't want a tricked-out overpriced "performance" car. Just a basic sedan with a good engine.

I would have to parrot what others are already saying about the 'why-tech' remarks. Honda has their own version of the Blindspot cameras on higher quality vehicles but it shows up in the infotainment system--has you looking at the center of your dash. Hyundai's Blindspot camera is in the actual gauge cluster making it beyond easy to use while driving on the highway. The safety features are beyond superior in the Sonata, having purchased a 2023 not too long ago. A huge thing they over looked was the Heads Up Display that comes with the Sonata Limited Trim. There is no vehicle at this price point with a HUD unless you want to spend 55,000+. I don't believe the Honda comes close to the sonata.

The Accord they are using in this video has the adaptive dampers which dramatically improves ride. Put that same tech in the Sonata and then face off. The Accord would still win as Honda just have the experience, but the Sonata would be worlds closer and it would and should be respected a lot more.

About the Accord he says, "my trunk is a little flaccid." Just keep a Viagra tablet in there, problem solved! 😂😂😂
About voice memos, how about for phone numbers for a start?
And about the big 19 inch wheels of the Accord Touring. Yes they look stunning, but performance tires wear out faster and are much more expensive. Yes, they offer great handling but at the expense of road comfort. They do NOT soak up bumps like regular tires, that is for sure. Last time I test drove a Lexus with performance tires, man, my butt felt every bump on the road! However, one review said that the Accord Touring's suspension is factory tuned to the 19" wheels. Now if that is true, that is great engineering!
Lastly, with hybrids, repair costs are known to be higher in the long run. So the Sonata powertrain warranty of 10 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES IS SO GREAT! This article on the Accord is excellent, explains the adaptive dampers built into the Touring version: www.newcartestdrive.com/reviews/2020-honda-accord/#:~:text=The%20Accord%20Touring%20can%20be,mode%20for%20more%20than%20%2437%2C000.

The front end does not look good at all they straight up copied the civics rear end. The interior looks decent but not as classy as the accords.
The Accord is the better overall package. They don’t focus too much on one thing but rather try to do as many things well, that’s why it’s such a good balanced package

I have a 2009 sonata and can now consider a sonata again since the SE and SEL finally have a dual injection and no turbo option.

Yeah, I found it perplexing the Limited has the inferior 1.6L Turbo. I don't think there is any doubt at all the 2.5L with dual injection naturally aspirated engine is the superior option. Very strange decision from Hyundai, they should at least have offered a Limited with the 2.5 and a Limited with the inferior turbo.

Currently driving 2019 Honda Inspire EX which I love. If I had to choose between the Honda Accord or the Hyundai Sonata I'd choose the Honda every time because it'll last longer and be worth more in 5 or 10 years if both cars are well maintained.

Accord actually has a dual rear USB power port accessory/option in the builder (I think it's about $200?), but in the 100 or so Touring Accords I've look at online, I have NEVER SEEN IT equipped. Weird.

There is absolutely nothing exciting about a Honda Accord. That unibrow, damn it's UGLY!
I'll take the Hyundai Sonata any day!
And the smart park, it's useful when returning to your vehicle and someone has parked too close to your vehicle, and you can't open the door.
This has happened to me on Plenty of occasions.

Ok mr Japan. I don’t see what you don’t like about Hyundai . I own a 2018 sonata, quality is good, and it hasn’t had any problems. Super reliable. My favorite car brands are Toyota and hyundai.

Another winner of a comparison review by Edmunds . . . featuring 2 of the most compelling manufacturers and models available. I hadn't seen the Accord and all-new Sonata paired off, so kudos to the team :-) And definitely agree with John Yoo - really enjoyed having Carlos in the mix as a reviewer.

The digital part of the accord gets dissed alot. Day to day use is great you can change to what u want. The only complaint I have is that the digital display only shows in kph & disappears in mph mode. Why? The driving experience is no comparison, accord all day.

Both are great car companies, BUT.
Honda has been focusing on rigorous Manufacturing Quality ever since WWII, you can’t just become a high quality car manufacturer overnight. It takes years of process design and continuous improvement. So Honda has way more experience producing quality. And they will always be ahead. Hyundai has done a great job of designing cool looking cars. But, when it comes to what’s under the hood, Honda blows Hyundai out of the water.
