In a drumline battle, there are no losers, just degrees of winners. Marines killed it in technical style but the HS drumline had some cool show-y stuff. Different vibe, really.
Professional musicians vs hardworking HS kids isn’t any question who comes out on top. One of the major functions of the service bands is served well by giving kids an experience they won’t forget as well as an introduction to the professionalism of our great military. Experiences like this are an outreach intended to put the thought of/strengthen the idea of future military service.
Comparing the Marine band to a high school band is like comparing a steak to a sandwich. One is not bad the other one is juicy, flavor, and just great.
Once upon a time, those Marines were those very high school drummers. I see it as a recruiting strategy. There is a place in all branches of the military for just about anyone.
What an honor to ever be able to play along side some marines, Anyone who has ever served on here, I know yall hate it when people salute but I salute you all and thank you for you service!
The Marines can rub some funk on it, when called upon to do so. Of course, the LHS band was awesome, but do they know 12 ways to eliminate the enemy with a drumstick?
Damn. That lick at the end the Marines played gave me chills. Such a cool event. Now that school drumline was bad to the bone and I thought they had it for a second. The 2 guys with the 4 bangers had it down like Leroy brown.
It’s almost like the marines were all out of high school, did this in high school and had years of experience on them... shocker. That being said the high schoolers did an awesome job.
+Sharkbait Actually not true. They are infantry first. Playing with the band is just a "B" Billet which can be recalled so they can deploy with the grunts
In my entire time in I never once saw a civilian in our uniform. Band is a B-billet which means they have to have a primary MOS which you can't have as a civilian

That said, those Marines are those same high school kids with years of full time band practice and performance under their belt. Semper Fi.
I'm retired USNavy so I have an interest in the Marines. Still, as much as I hate to say it, the Marines in this instance were Owned by the LHS Drum Line. Great job to both.

Saw the Marine Corp maching band play in pouring rain, as you can imagine, numerous other bands marrched on that same field, and in pouring rain. The Marines were wearing white pants, but the only mud on those whute pants, were about two inches high on both inside legs. Not a speck of mud, anywhere else. How, is that even possible? But like every Marine, they're steps always match, and they're perfection body, mind, and soul! Oh yes each military branch has their bands, but they were super heroes. If i remember right, white pants and red or blue coats. And their hats, it was like looking a 1,000 miles into the distance, and their hats were perfect also! 😉
We give the band guys a hard time in the Marine Corps but we all love them and they're definitely some of the hardest working Marines out there. They practice for hours on end every day and play crazy schedules. You can see it in their precision.
Went to the International Military Tattoo every year in Middle and High School. Saw some crazy drum lines from the various militaries around the world.
