- Lohajung is a village in Uttarakhand. This base camp is very special to us because this is where it all began for Indiahikes.
Lohajung is the base camp fro the Roopkund trek. Our founder Arjun Majumdar documented this trek before he started Indiahikes and since then Lohajung has been the base camp for this famous trek.
Roopkund is known for is famous skeleton lake and it's high altitude meadows.
Over the years, it has also been the base camp of another famous trek - Brahmatal. This trek is famous for it's high altitude alpine lakes and forest sections.
In this video, Dushyant Sharma our senior most trek leader talks about 5 reasons why Lohajung is a very special base camp for Indiahikes.
The Lohajung base camp is very famous for it's stories. Be it Roopkund or Brahmatal, you'll always find stories that will take you back in time.
One such interesting fact about Lohajung is that it is one of the spots through which the Nanda Devi Raj Jat yaatra goes through. This yaatra happens only once in 12 years and is an auspicious event.
Another interesting fact about Lohajung is that it is a junction. This junction actually connects 5 villages that surround Lohajung. These villages have a rich heritage and culture.
Having said that, Lohajung is actually a market area where you will be able to find all essentials like general store, barber shops etc.

Lohajung was the basecamp of my first ever high altitude trek, 'the Roopkund', which I did twice. This is where I met Dushyant for the first time. No matter how many high altitude treks I do but Lohajung will always hold a special place in my life. THIS PLACE IS AN EMOTION!

I just came back from the Brahmatal trek 2 weeks ago. There were a lot of places with interesting stories like Bekaltal lake and Brahmatal. Lohajung itself was a really small village with a few shops along this 300 meter streach. Interesting to learn about the Curzon trail because it's indeed a beautiful place to explore.
