    I’m a retired minister, and I think I can speak for most every minister, priest, rabbi, and imam: LEAVE THE TEACHING OF RELIGION TO US! You don’t need to force it into the schools- anybody who wants to learn about this knows where the churches, synagogues and mosques are. We don’t want this any more than nonbelievers do.

      Honestly I wouldn't trust some of the churches either, because they sure don't like to explain Tradition and the whole sociohistory of why this interpretation and not that one.
      Especially when that's currently the second-most fascinating thing I've studied as an agnostic... (most fascinating is the early christianity, how it got tangled up in Hellenic greek philosophy, how some denominations used syncretism, and how it evolved from early Jewish faith that itself distinguished itself from Canaanite faiths and....
      Well the TL:DR; is that I honestly didn't expect to end up learning sociology, geopolitics, and just how marvelously interwoven society, spirituality, and politics have been for so much of human development.)

    • @Scanner9631
      @Scanner9631 3 місяці тому +2

      Works better if you can get them to THINK about what they read not just accept it.
      My mother was required to read it as a kid but I think that she was too young to understand most of it and she was jut taught to accept what she read, no questioning it.
      I saw the Chariots of the Gods movie as a kid. I thought he had amazing arguments for his claims. I didn't know enough. I read the book as a early teen and saw how little he provided anything like solid evidence. I reread it in my late teens and saw how little was documented fact vs anecdotal. One of the stories for example "took place at A University", no name for the university or the researchers involved, so no ways to fact check, no explanation why the physics professors would let a source of "free energy" be destroyed rather than studied either, why didn't they keep it to go for a Nobel Prize?
      My mother (and most believers) never get past that first step that I took with Chariots of the Gods. They don't get to the 2nd let alone 3rd step. Too bad.

Unfortunately, as a collective, if we just simply walked out and demanded, as I call it, the declaration of independence of education and demanded what we know is needed that maybe they will listen. The thing that I have not heard anyone say yet, but is clearly true, is that one of the main reasons schools in Oklahoma and Louisiana are being forced to use Bible materials in the classroom is because they are trying to force a lawsuit. They can then take it as high in the court system as possible, hopefully to the Supreme Court, in order to get a new ruling about church/state separation. When Trump loses in November and the fighting to install him anyway eventually ends his power over MAGA will fail. Then MAGA vs MAGA infighting will destroy what is still called the Republican Party. A new more center party will emerge (and maybe a radical right party as well). Hopefully from this a new stability can be born.

    If we must teach the bible as a historical document, we must also teach the Quran and Torah. Both cultures and their holy books also had a great impact on the creation of this country and the bible itself. The kids should learn about hinduism and taoism as well. Voodo and Santeria are also important if we're studying theology as a historical subject. If they want their holy book in schools, they better be ready to tolerate them all in schools, and for it to be treated as what it is. Mythology.

    Regarding your comment about "How can I hurt as many people as possible?"
    The problem is that these people don't believe they are hurting anyone, or at least that the hurt is necessary for correction. They truly think they are doing the best for these kids. That's the problem and why it's so difficult to change their minds. Once they get in the mode of thinking that what they are doing is a net positive (often no matter the means) then they will continue to do that, come hell or high water.
    The only way to stop them is to take them out of the position of power, or to change their mind, which is way harder.
