That mower is something else! I did a lot of haying as a young man back in the 60's and early 70's. All done with a sickle bar mower and simple hay rake. The machinery today used for hay is amazing!
oh yes - those old sickle bars mowers,. I was a teenage, will follow behind with the hay conditioner. There are still some small farmers are still using the sickle bar mowers
We call these a "three deck mower" here in Kansas, they are sweet as you can really put the hay down and do a field quickly. Back when I was a kid on our farm all we had was a 12 foot sickle bar mower that we pulled behind a small tractor on its 3pt hitch and it took some hours to cut a big hay field. 12 foot cut vs 34 foot is a huge difference plus the speed is phenominal. Thanks Andy, very cool mowing system.
I remember back in the beginning Andy when you 1st started youtubin', your music selection, thought for SURE we were gonna hear some "Ratt" from the the title.
My dad and I always added birdsfoot trefoil when seeding a wet field/field with wet holes. The trefoil filled in the wet holes and when feeding dry hay the cows always seemed to like the trefoil better. Trefoil doesn't produce the tonnage, but doesn't out compete the alfalfa.
Another great vid andy. Did you guys get rid of that jd w235 i seen in the years past? Those are nice but im sure the triples are a bit more productive.
Good looking crop of Alfalfey we always put a pound of orchard grass to an acre when seeding Alfalfa, but it grew best at 3rd and 4th cutting, the horse farms like the mix we sold about 8 to 10.000 square bales a yr
I just flew down to South Carolina to drive my mom back to Massachusetts the corn crop looked horrible super dry and all pineappled up could really use some rain the heat is taking it’s toll
Your operation is what a lot of the “professional “ UA-camrs wish they had
Andy , I think you’re one of the best farming narrators on UA-cam. Your knowledge of dairy farming particularly is incredible.
Absolutely
I like your mowing videos. Always fun seeing the mowers flying down the field.

Ah, the old sickle bar mowers. How many times did you find a rock and screw up your bar ?
Andy thank you for showing how you guys mow your alfalfa down. I was one of your viewers wanting to see your mowing operation. Thank you again Andy
Glad you did this one. I love all your videos no matter what they are about, but it is always great to get to watch these mowers running.
Beautiful looking fields. Kudos to your operation.

All the contractors here in 🇬🇧 usually use pottinger or krone triples if big enough 👍
Have you considered Red Clover as a mix for your feed?

"Letting the sun" dry the crop means you can put an "Organic" star on the milk!
